The Sox were counting on this game, this was the one game they were so sure. The Stros went early 2000’s Yankees on the Sox, grounding out every at bats, getting that pitch count up early. The Astros’ defense was on another level.
Giolito will take care of that pitch count on his own. He's a "One bad Inning" kind of Pitcher. And yes..the Astros Defense was stellar. Sox had no trouble getting baserunners but couldn't get that big Inning like HOU did to break it open a bit late.

Yuli Gurriel is probably one of the most slept on players defensively. I’ve yet to see him not able to handle a low throw to first base and scooping it up. And that double play to first was clutch today.
Yeah, Altuve making all those splashy plays kinda overshadowed that great play by Guriel but it didn't go unnoticed by me! Yuli should get the Gold Glove this year - if he doesn't - it'll be a crime.
Sadly I have seen him not handle a pick at 1B. Was a really REALLY tough play but it was when his buddy Altuve needed Yuli to save him in last year's ALCS. God that hurt to watch.....

I was in the Crawford boxes for this game. It was TENSE until the 7th!!! Also, CWS leftfielder Eloy Jimenez seems like a pretty decent guy. We had a little banter with him & he was cool about it, mostly.
If the right fielder caught that ball (which was on him btw) it was only 5-4 going in the 8th. This play changed the game, the White Sox don't have their place in the playoffs, I would have prefer to see the BlueJays instead.
The Blue Jay's were the best team to miss the playoffs, so unfortunate they would've went on to beat the Red Sox and/or Yankees I think to play the Ray's

It’s just one of the rules of the game. It’s called “tagging up.” Basically, if you leave the bag before the ball is caught, they can throw the ball to the base you were on and you’d be out there for leaving too soon. Otherwise, any flyball to the outfield would clear the bases every time. Makes the game a little more fair.

The tagging up part comes in after the ball is batted. It’s actually a problem for guys who steal a lot. If you try to steal and your teammate who’s batting hits a lazy flyball, you have to sprint back to the base you were on, or they can double you off there.

I was in the Crawford boxes for this game. It was TENSE until the 7th!!! Also, CWS leftfielder Eloy Jimenez seems like a pretty decent guy. We had a little banter with him & he was cool about it, mostly.
If the right fielder caught that ball (which was on him btw) it was only 5-4 going in the 8th. This play changed the game, the White Sox don't have their place in the playoffs, I would have prefer to see the BlueJays instead.
The Blue Jay's were the best team to miss the playoffs, so unfortunate they would've went on to beat the Red Sox and/or Yankees I think to play the Ray's

doesnt shock me Valdez gave up 4 runs given his stats against Chicago but im just glad the Astros won. in the random depths of someones youtube comment section i made playoff predictions and i had Houston sweeping Chicago

you could see the sox pitching starting to fade as the season went, brilliant at first but the arms got tired toward the end, or people started to figure them out... was hoping they still had something in the tank, get those two on the southside and anything is possible.

Might be a dumb question to ask but why do they have to wait until the ball is caught in the outfield before running?
It’s just one of the rules of the game. It’s called “tagging up.” Basically, if you leave the bag before the ball is caught, they can throw the ball to the base you were on and you’d be out there for leaving too soon. Otherwise, any flyball to the outfield would clear the bases every time. Makes the game a little more fair.

@@Sugarist0 No you can steal. A steal is a different type of play. You can takeoff from your base at any time while a pitcher is preparing to pitch, or a catcher is chasing a loose ball. The tagging up part comes in after the ball is batted. It’s actually a problem for guys who steal a lot. If you try to steal and your teammate who’s batting hits a lazy flyball, you have to sprint back to the base you were on, or they can double you off there.

The significance here is that it is not counted as a plate appearance and therefore doesn’t count against your batting average. I hope this is helpful.
