one of the attractive walking courses.
Shitennoji Temple is the oldest official temple in Japan.
It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku.
He played a leading role in introducing Buddhism to Japan.
It's free to see and wander most of the expansive grounds.
Entrance fee is required for the central temple.
Many of the buildings were destroyed by repeated wars and disasters.
The existing buildings were rebuilt between 1963 and 1979.
