I’m afraid It rained a lot last week which is unusual in March. But it’s a beautiful day. I’m in Hiroshima now. Thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

Amazing! Thank you for taking us with you on this adventure. Are there statues in each temple?

Fascinating history! Great video! I've studied the legacy of Prince Shotoku a great deal as well as the conflict between the Soga and Mononobe clans.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. Prince Shotoku is not just a famous historical person but a great person every Japanese respects.

Great video! I didn't know about the garden, I'll have to visit next time.
I haven't been to Shitennoji in a few years, it struck me that similar to Osaka castle (which has been refurbished inside and out), Shitennoji is very old but also, in some ways, very new. In Shitennoji, it's the first and only time I've been able to climb upstairs in a pagoda! I find the shitenno/four heavenly kings very interesting, Nara has some beautiful examples. I think Gangoji in Nara is built around the same time - I also like that temple! I think tourists don't go there as much, but it's very quirky & interesting.
To tell the truth I'm still bad at telling the difference between Buddhist temples & Shinto Shrines. I'm trying to fix that so I don't embarass myself in the future! Hahaha.

Thank you so much for your support! Asukadera in Nara was built in 596 almost the same age as this temple. You can get very close to big Buddha there.

Oh my gosh, I wonder how I didn't see you! I take a walk through the temple grounds nearly every day! :) Thank you for the history lesson, Shitennoji's history is rarely ever covered in English!!

What a beautiful place! Its sad war took away the old building, but the new one looks beautiful and colorful!
I can't help but feel sorry for the Monobe, they must have felt betrayed that a descendant from Amaterasu would try to worship a different religion. Thankfully religious wars didn't become common in Japan!

Anyway the royal family still inherits the Shinto tradition. Please don’t worry. Our Emperor prays for the world peace everyday.

Be careful. The path is really narrow.
