Not only that, it's built in a foundation of freaking Mickey Mouse, happy meals, cartoons and videogames. People are caught up in American culture since they are toddlers.
It goes further than that, after the war many guys who were in the IJF or adjacent were pow's or dead. White Americans were basically surrogate fathers willingly or not. This was kinda a soft replacement going on and replacing of Japanese values and culture. There also seems to be a lack of info on all the hafu kids that came from occupation and the brothels that were set up, it's like they all dissapeared. Imo replacement theory is kinda true for Japan. Far too many white supremacist types are going over there with an actual intention of replacing the locals and have the locals become a sevant class. It's colonialism and race caste all over again but they are trying to convince people to let them do it willingly.

As a tourist... San diego was way more pleasant that LA. Great museums. Seals. Beautiful beaches. Not sitting in traffic for 2 hours. Not as great of food tho.
As a San Diegan, I appreciate the none hate, as much as I hate this city myself. I hate LA more for the exact attitude on display here. LA snobbery fucking irks me like no other
I lived in SD for three years and it always felt surprisingly boring and slow-paced for a city of that size. People generally took it a lot slower than in LA. Fewer miserable type-A's and status-obsessed jagoffs. I never lived in LA but every time I traveled there I encountered people with too much money who seemed like they were getting ready to snap.

SAFETY. As a woman (or a man),the sense of safety you have in Japan,China or South Korea,walking around by yourself at any time of the day or night,is probably something you will never experience anywhere else in the world.Coming from someone who (is a woman and) found herself lost in the middle of the night in Beijing, Seoul,and where not,on several occasions,due to late night flights,while trying to find the hotel the taxi drivers couldn`t locate,for some reason.Not only that,but random strangers would do their best to help when they realize you need help,and literally go out of their way to walk you to the place you need to go to.And then politely say `goodbye` and disappear.

A lot of the Nordic countries (Finland in my experience) are as safe, if not safer than Japan. They have quite a prevalent problem with sexual harassment, that doesn't necessarily even get reported, but in general people are very helpful and trustworthy.

Anyway, you know that the majority of immigrants come from Mexico, right? The IDEA of the US does sound great on paper, and so does it the first few times you visit the place until you learn about the sub-urbs having no town centers, education costing an arm and a leg, most of your time is spend in cars, infantilization of children, weird obsession with equating nudity to inherently sexual, general paranoia and distrust of each other, the minefield that is American politics (funny to me, since not once is anyone in your country ever discussing solidarity...) gerrymandering, insane housing cost, lack of worker protections rights and unions, 14 vacation days and 1 week of sick days (lmfao, I got 8 weeks of vaccation and sick days are unlimited as well as paid(technically 6 weeks in a row is max, after that you only get 60% of your monthly income paid for as long as you are over the 6 weeks line, but you can do this 2-3 a year without worry of getting fired for suffering from a chronic illness or temporary condition) as long as I have a doctors notice, no way I'll ever give that luxury up lmfao), people don't kill themselves over the topic of politics, I can walk everywhere without a problem, yeah....
The more I think of it the more sad I feel about it, especially because Americans on their own are fantastic people since they are so easy to approach and very charitable. Sucks to see good people suffer because of nonsense that could've been figured out a long time ago, sucks especially because I got some good friends over there so their problems by virtue of being friends become my problems as well. It’s very true that a woman can walk alone at night. I walked alone drunk at 3am through Shinjuku and didn’t feel unsafe even for a second. It was a really interesting experience as a woman to feel so safe.

I also went to college in NC at a school with tons of business startup freak nerds on campus and never heard of this second Silicon Valley luckily and I’m not surprised by his public transit comments the school I went to litterally was in a city that is voted the LEAST walkable city in America as a whole like it’s at least 15 min in a car to get anywhere and sidewalks are legit rare like the regular roads just r built like highways with no walking spaces at all it sucks ass and makes life very isolated unless u have a car and tons of extra time and energy to use it to trek across to wherever u need to go it’s a whole production and makes just doing errands difficult and time consuming

The public transit in Japan is incredible in comparison to my country. I was a tutor/conversation partner at my university for a Japanese exchange student a few years ago and I didn’t have a car so I was just like “well we’re kinda stuck here bc everything is several hours walking distance away and we don’t have a bus, sorry” and then when I went to Japan with my Uni and got to visit her I was like “damn I really feel so bad like our province is built without public transportation in mind”. The guilt I still have for not having a car to be able to show her around the province is insane.

Also Hassan dont forget... alote of people born and raised in NYC dont have car licensees as that should be a telling sign of how dependent new yorkers are to public transportation. As many of us start taking the subway alone when we hit the 5th-8th grade. Another obvious factor is the annoying parking issue as many people refuse to get a car just for that very reason.
to me, cars are for leaving the city, not for navigating it. why would i spend money on fuel (which is super fucking expensive in germany) and wear out my car to take part in the stressful city traffic, when i can just sit back, relax and listen to some music in public transport and use the time at bus stops to do some pull ups and stretches.

Not even for leaving the city are cars worth it imo, unless it's to a place where the train network isn't suitable or if you're on the country side or generally if you visit another country. Despite this, before I left for Japan I remember how some of my friends used to be really lazy once they got their car. Still remember an "argument" because I wanted to walk the 5-10min walk to the town center and they insisted on using their cars instead, which took the exact amount of time... (But fuel cost, and no fresh air lmfao). I suppose that's because we were 19 but still a weird story haha.
I hope the DB got their stuff together, ever since coming to Japan I have come to realize how truly incompetent they are, like beyond the standard complains (though I miss using the bahnverspätung als ausrede fürs zu spät erscheinen haha).

people in tokyo city don't think about US military occupation, why would they? there are bases all over japan, not just okinawa, though. okinawa has more tension because okinawa is also colonized by japan, not just us. so basically double occupied. plus for whatever reason seems us military commit more crimes there than at other bases, not sure why. maybe they just get caught more.

Boston may be a great place to not have a car, but because of the housing situation, and the large number of students (literally half the population are college students) a huge population drive in to commute at least part of the way. Many commute from as far away as Southern NH.
next time you go to Japan, go to Kumano dorm at kyoto university. an independent communal dorm associated with Japan Revolutionary Communist League (not to be confused with mainstream communist party which is pretty much just centrist left). they have memorials to japanese red army fighters whomst deeds i probably shouldn't mention here, and also still regularly get raided by the cops due to revolutionary actors who live there. they also have raves most weekends. i dunno what their policy on livestreaming is though. you should also visit yoshida dorm which is another communal leftist dorm but more hippy dippy. they do not like filming at all, though.

I get that we have some beautiful hotels in America, but so many Japanese hotels are just as nice and also have options of different room styles, like Japanese tatami style, western style, or a fusion of Japanese+Western. same thing for the food at some places. but also the biggest thing for me is that lots of nice Japanese hotels have private hot spring baths attached to the room. some American hotels have hot tubs in their rooms but it’s not a lot of them and it’s not the same.

The safety of Japan is really overstated especially for foreign women.

Hardly anyone in Japan has a passport, they never leave. I almost never see Japanese people in the US. Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese all day, but no Japanese.

Because Japan is a nice place to live..they do come to the US to places like NYC, but they stay within a certain bubble for vacation, usually white, middle to upper middle class, and when they do encounter racism/discrimination they usually don't know how to process it or they make excuses for it or my favorite "I'm not Chinese" as if the person being racist to them cares. If they actually do come to stay, they have very different views and may look to return home unless there are reasons why they can't or they got a particularly big anchor here. Right now there's more Japanese looking to move out, but not because they love elsewhere more, it's money, Japanese economy isn't doing too hot right now. Whatever problems you find in Japan you will find in the US and more. Overwork? You don't think people with 2-3 jobs or doing 14 hour shifts to make ends meet aren't overworked? Sex harassment and assault? come on now....Misogyny/Racism? Where do you think Japanese learn it from? do you know how weird it is to hear Japanese use the same racist asian sterotypes, but think it only applies to Chinese or Koreans?

Public transportation sucks because of other people. I don't know why Hassan champions it so much. If he lived in a city where it was feasible to ride a Metro bus He probably rather be in his car. I'm sure LA has buses but it probably comes at a great cost of time so imagine he lived in Indianapolis. He would just drive and it's crazy not to.
