Just picked up a 1987 924S. Got the factory seats back in. Probably needs engine mounts , as well as general maintenance. The belt and pump were changed, but I have no idea when. .. . The previous owner removed the stock shift handle, so it wobbles.. need that, wipers have to time them on downstroke to shut off, or they stop exactly where they are at 😅. Oh well, I hope im fast learner
that Pantera is a sexy beast..and am sure you get a lot of double takes when you have it out and about...i dig this channel..keep the great content coming..
Nice video on a not-so-fun job! BTW - my experience with German cars...if an assembly has 200 parts to it, there will be 100 special tools and fixtures required!
Nice work BJ pity about them seals man after all that work too can understand your aggravation it would equally annoy me aswell but defo a lot better and man it does drive and sound nice ,have a great week wish you well 🔧🔧🔧👌👍❤️🏁🏁
Thank ya! Yeah the seals really suck but at least it drives well now. I guess if I just keep topping the oil off as it drips out, I'll never have to do an oil change! Silver linings!
Really takes me back, same interior as my old 944 (although you have the steering wheel on the wrong side 😂), my cousin has it now and he’s about to do a deep restoration on it, I may ask to buy it back from him when it’s done 🤔
@@tangentsbhb That’s right, 1982, 8v, 2.5, guards red, no power steering, no sunroof, Fuchs alloys, the one that’s getting collectible now as it was the 944 in its purest form, you know I’m pretty sure I’ll buy it back once he’s completed it, I’ll need to be patient though, he’s just completed his Morris minor 1000, it took 4 years, but wow it’s better than the day it rolled off the line 👍
What a pain! I was going to stop and check out a used 944 last spring in my hometown. I kept debating it with myself for a month. It was $3500. Somebody else bought it, I seen it driven for a few weeks and haven't seen it again!
@@tangentsbhb I highly doubt it was in my little town. I had recently gotten a Crossfire and had never owned a German machine before. I decided not to bite off more than I could chew. Besides, I might run across more bikes in need of some love!
great vid, well done, I did similar clutch replacement on a 928 as well rebuilt the torque tube; new bearings and shaft. For the RMS, theres a special tool to insert correctly unfortunately you have to pull the clutch etc again.....let me now if you need info on tool :)
@tangentsbhb just be glad you started with a 924S. My son was so amused by watching me struggle with my 944 that he bought a 924 project. At first glance its the same car with a different engine. Digging deeper, they are way different, harder to work on, less parts availability, and less info floating around online. If I had started with a 924 I wouldn't be nearly as into the platform as I am now.
I've had this funny idea of buying a 2000 accord, and recording myself doing a manual swap on one after owning it for a few months, after a few other videos if stuff goes wrong with it before then. Lol
Do they make a lightweight flywheel option for it? With your quest to drop weight it's usually good for a solid 10-12lbs depending on what you find, frees up some revs too.
I also had the idea of buying a Honda CB650 RC03 and repainting the entire bike black and tan, recorded and put on TH-cam of course. (I'm probably gonna get so many comments for sanding all the paint off). Lol
Not at all. I love this thing and drive it all the time. Old cars and bikes will give you trouble and you must expect that. The timing is usually the worst part

Yeah that car definitely breaks necks lol. Glad you have been enjoying
Why's was the seal leaking ,, why!!! 🙄😪

Isn't that the truth lol! Glad you enjoyed the video
Great progress…well, except for those seals! Nice video, BJ. 👏
Oh man the rear main seal leak...ugh
ohhh extra long tangent! hell yeah!
It was TOUGH to get it under an hour lol
@tangentsbhb doesn't bother me, I watch at work, the longer the vid the longer I'm occupied 🤣

Well if you had the steering on the other side you also had the good looking bumpers and stuff!

Have you double checked the crank case vent wystem? So it doesn't build pressure and causes leaks ? Shouldn't be an issue, but worth a check.
I havent but I like that thinking. I'll investigate
A proper car mechanic as well 😏
🤘🤘

A pain but necessary. 3500 is not bad if the car is in decent shape!

Well I can't imagine much of a specialty tool beyond a large ring. I've installed many like this so I was surprised it leaked
Gonna watch this again in a year when I get tired of listening to my torque tube bearings.
🤣🤣🤣
In all seriousness though did mine sound OK or too noisy?
@@tangentsbhb I'm far from the expert, but all the forum threads make it seem like they should be nearly silent.
It's so hard to know what I'm hearing in the car. This is my only experience with a 924/944 so I have nothing to compare to
@@tangentsbhb same here.

Not a matter of if but when! 😅
Yeah I might break stuff before then, since it would be a first car. XD
Not "separated" rubber cush goes out on them My 944 did the same, thought it was a U joint at first
Well it became separated though.

They do indeed. I'm not really focusing on this engine too much as I plan to swap it in a year

Either that or dark indigo, and black, with orange details on the black parts. (No I'm not gonna sand one with a perfectly good paintjob) Lol
Do what you want! There will always be people who have an issue with what you do to your own vehicle!
@@tangentsbhb, they'll definitely have a problem with me butchering the power door cables on my 06' odyssey. Lol
Did you fix that left rear wheel bearing?
Yes I did. That video will go up next Monday 😁
Don't you just love having to go through all of that for a clutch job? Sucks about the new rear main seal.
Oh it's just the best! 😅

Why was the seal leaking ,, why 😢😢🙄
It was a heart breaker!
So do you regret buying this car? Maybe time to "cut & run" ?
