I'm finishing this job in the morning. Thank you for making this. I've got all the bolts out except the 2 behind the metal bracket. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but still ridiculous.
Hi. I have a 2011 bmw 328i. I’m getting a burning smell when I start my car initially with smoke but it doesn’t happen every time I start it. It’s the first start of the day. I lifted the hood and noticed slight oil assumingely coming from the oil gasket or from a hose under the gasket. Also there’s some slight leaking from the steering fluid. Are those two connected? Would I get a censor light on if there is a leakage because I have yet to get any censors or lights. How do I know if what I need is an oil gasket change? The car works perfectly fine aside from that temporary burning smell and smoke at the start up. Thank you
i have a 2015 bmw 428i grand coupe, sorry for the noob question, but do i have to do the same thing to mine, i hit a speed bump and its leaking oil from the bolts.
Tbh I’ve seen instances in the past where some ppl tightened those bolts slightly more and it stopped the leak for some time but be warned these are aluminum bolts and can easily snap. If that doesn’t help then yes I’d recommend changing the entire pan and not just the gasket. But just confirm it is leaking where it meets the engine and the actual pan isn’t damaged since you said you hit a speed bump.
Amazon has the aluminum version of these pans. They do not use gasket. They use silicone. With such tight fit, silicone would have been all wiped off after the pan gets fitted in, right? I guess I would stick with the plastic one. They suck but there is no better alternative.
True but like you said the pay didn’t correlate so tried to find another method to save time. Overall saved some time but the headache isn’t worth it and really only works on ideal circumstances.
this is terrible advice. DO NOT do it this way. ive been turning wrenches for years and well i i will admit that not dropping the subframe sounds appealing, just do it. i tried it this way and it ended up costing me time. the oil pan got jammed and i broke it trying to free it. i had the transmission and engine lifted to the maximum all the way up against the body. save yourself the headache
It is recommended to replace the entire oil pan since it is plastic so with your statement we know you only replace the gasket and therefore your experience checked but thank you for informing people of your experience.
I’m currently at 5 hours for the pan out and that with me doing it in my garage floor with the car on ramps. You will have to put the car on jacks or lift the driver side when it time to pull the pan as it will allow the sun frame to finish dropping the extra inch.

I had the same plug fall into the pan thanks a ton for showing where it goes!
"BLANCE SHAFT ALIGNMENT PLUG " 😎 👍 👌 (VERY IMPORTANT)

You Sir, saved my A$$. Found the plug while cleaning the oil pan. Thanks for the added FYI. No one else mentions the plug.
Did your friend have any issues with the oil pan since you fixed it?

Wait what. So you didn’t have to take out both front axles? Every other video I watched did this step.
No front axle on this one
You’d have to take axels out on xdrive models, this one appears to be a rwd
Just remove the subframe. Make it easy
it would of been easier just to drop the subframe, what sucks it only pays 3 hours smh

@@TexThaiAuto regardless of that, removing the subframe makes this job much less of a struggle. this is 100% the hard way to do it
Would agree ours is welded to the frame so
no se entiende nada
How long it take?
