    I was surprised GM didn't do a unique twist to the engine in the ZR2 but the 3.5 eco boost time doesn't surprise me. If I remember correctly the 3.5 eco boost engines (hybrid, high output, regular) are some of the most powerful stock engines available right now, TRX is king of course and not factoring in companies like Shelby who make their own versions of trucks the 3.5 eco boost engine stock is a beast. Looking forward to seeing the new upcoming hurricane engine for the dodge ram go up against it.

    The funny thing is that 10 years ago, this ZR2 would be the talk of the town. Although the power plant is certainly impressive by any standards, it's just not up to the level of the Raptor, and especially not the TRX. At a lower price point, I could see these trucks selling well - but when trying to compete with the "big boys", it doesn't have the WOW factor.

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Chevy are not trying to compete with the big boys, but are just filling a niche. Prior to the chip shortage, the Raptors were being heavily discounted!! I bought my 2019 for $12,000 less than MSRP!! Now there’s 2 in that market. Once the manufacturers can keep up with demand and fill the lots,,,, well Chevy was smart enough not to add a 3rd direct competitor. The ZR2 much more closely matches up against the F150 Tremor with the Torsen front differential. That is a pretty aggressive limited slip and will only fall behind the Chevy in pure rock crawling. Otherwise they are very close. The DSSV shocks also add a bit of an advantage to the Chevy. With the Ford you can add the Torsen axel to a XLT level finish, put a serious set of Fox shocks, King shocks ar the like and still be thousands less than the Chevy and then there will be only one slight advantage to the Chevy.. thing is in deep snow or mud it very likely the F150 Tremor will outperform the ZR2 Silverado. Too many inexperienced and cityboy comments on here. Glad to read them to see how everyone views each truck mind you.

      I think it makes sense actually. The ZR2 is more livable in daily driving than the other two which is where 90%+ of these trucks are gonna live anyway, and they don't need it to have that WOW factor because they have the Hummer for that. The Hummer is their true halo off-roading truck.

  • @nydieselinfl
    @nydieselinfl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +101

    What you really need to do is race that ZR2 against a Tremor. The Raptor is a whole different class of truck. The Raptor will beat the ZR2 on road, off road, drag race, Baja, just name it. The Tremor is more suited for the class of competition the ZR2 brings, and there are in the same ballpark as far as price goes. That’s where I think the comparison would be a bit more even.

    • @Wolfsbane1100
      @Wolfsbane1100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Amused. It’s funny that someone brings that up as though it’s ridiculous. It really does depend on your altitude.
      Honest. Personally, I prefer a supercharger, but either way at higher altitudes, forced induction allows you to keep making power even as the air gets thinner.
      Additional. When you’re doing extreme rock crawling at any altitude, boost means you can run up steeper cliffs while using a lighter build. Boost essentially packs more cubes into a smaller motor. For instance, a 174 blower on a Ford 302 build (switched to back to it over my boosted 460 swap), has less weight and makes more reliable power, but it’s also packing well over 500 CID into a 302 CID motor.
      Fair. Turbos do make boost a bit differently, but sticking with the theme they also weigh less. I just don’t like complication and would prefer to be able to reliably use pump gas.

And GM only gave it 33s, but you can put on 35s easily, you just have to take it upon yourself to change it. 37s though they look cool and big tires do make big rocks seem smaller, hurt your fuel economy, acceleration, add stress to all the drive line components, and your suspension, and all that just makes it harder to live with unless your house is at the end of the trail, just doesn't seem worth it.

    First I Love my F150, but I have to admit the ZR2 looks really really good, might not be the desert runner the Ford is, might not be drag racer the Raptor is, but dang it sure is a pretty truck. I’d still get the Ford, like having a truck the body ain’t falling off of before I get it paid for(salt and steel), but I really like the Chevy’s good looks, I’m not sure what I saw it on but remember the hyena concept Silverado, where is it? Also Thanks to the young man sharing his baby with TFL and us fans, loved seeing how much he loves his incredible Race Red Raptor.

I got a 2013 Ford f150 platinum. I exactly what I was looking for. In half ton pick-up was going to be the f150 with the 5.0. In 3/4 ton was not really what I wanted the gas engines had lacking results and the diesel engine made more sense in which case the ton pick-up had more capacity to tow and made more sense. If I had went to the ton the Ford and dodge impressed me with power and fuel efficiency but Chevy really seems to split the middle. So at that point it was really a toss up for which one was the cheapest and lowest mileage all three had advantages and disadvantages but watching your tests I knew all three would be able to meet my needs.
