Yeah, that's probably the most influencial horror rpg and a staple in indie horror. It's hard to find any scary/surreal indie that doesn't take inspiration from yume nikki. Like even something as different as DDLC was partly inspired by yume nikki, that says quite a lot about it's influence and cultural impact.
Nah it's a cult classic and people will keep coming back to it forever, therss been like 5 new blind playthroughs started just this week. The only issue is because everything's been discovered, no no content will probably come, and it's been said to not have any real written lore, there's unfortunately nothing new to say about yume nikki anymore, it will just be the same talking points repeated by different people.
rare to find anything thats horror anything that isnt just a few hours of dead silence then the loudest noise the universe has heard since the big bang ((im just assuming that shit was loud if we're still getting reverb/feedback from it))
I once had a dream that I was in an alternate universe, for about three months. No joke I thought it was my real life, and no one would believe that I was in the wrong place and time. Eventually I snapped and went on a killing spree behind the wheel of a van. It all felt so real, and it honestly turned me off to dreams in general. Over time it's only gotten more graphic, but thankfully not as long lasting
Y'know, you can tell a lot about a content creator by the way they handle the inevitable Yume Nikki video. This video tells me that you're very thorough with your research, are willing to engage with different interpretations of things, and have a good sense of humor! If I weren't already subscribed (I stumbled on the Shipwrecked 64 video by chance and you've had me hooked ever since) I'd definitely subscribe for this
It's been many many years since I last saw anything about specifically about yume Niki, however, some of the worlds in this game share a striking resemblance to some in Omori, which is clearly an inspiration from this game. It's so cool that one random game, which could just as easily not ever been noticed, influenced so many other games, even to this day.
i first found Yume Nikki when i was just a kid and it was the game that convinced me video games can be art. it was instrumental to my development and meant a lot to me and many others i'm sure.
i love yume nikki but i like .flow more and that would make for a really good sequel video or just another video about one of the many other super interesting rpg maker games
Congrats on 10k!! Yume Nikki is my fav rpgmaker game, played it in my teens and it affected my taste in media quite a bit, since I've started to gravitate towards more surreal and quiet stuff rather than quick-paced and plot-focused Never really got into the theory crafting part of it all tho, I just enjoyed the game for what it is on the surface, felt very relaxing and comforting, and now you can add nostalgic on top of that Yume Nikki fangames are also such gems, I still adore Fleshchild even tho it was abandoned Pixel art is incredible
You don’t know my shock seeing this with less than 1k views. (Even though it was uploaded recently lmao) I haven’t seen your channel before but it seems very underrated to me, definitely subbing :] keep up the great work
0:27 onto this i want to add that theres a web browser version called Yume Nikki Online Project where you can also play it for free and various other yume nikki fangames for free whitout downloads. While yes its an online version of these games you can disable both the people and chat so it gives off more of the original experience! Hell you can even play it on a phone of you want so yeah good stuf :]
I didn't even notice haha! Her name was the only one that I really looked into how to pronounce because I knew it'd be the name that I'd be saying the most
46:00 tiny fun fact: it's funny enough because there is actually a rare disability known as Dwarfism, which, the name obviously, means someone that is short-statured and is a dwarf in real life (short arms, legs, hands, feet, etc), that normally range 4 ft. tall or even smaller or taller in some cases, despite of age. The arm span can also be irregular sometimes where one arm's reach might be smaller than the other. They hardly ever grow in height or take an extremely slow time growing. Sometimes, with this disability, it can be paired with others genetic-like disorders like Spina Bifida (SB), Diastrophic Dysplasia (DTD), or Achondroplasia (ACH) and sometimes can make them disabled in some cases. As a person that has Dwarfism, disabled, and a few of these disorders, I don't take the label "Dwarf" offensive because it's literally just who I am! I might take offensive to the word "mid--t" but I digress! Lovely work on the vid Wolfram, I love the structure of it!! :DDD
yeah, I've known a few other people with dwarfism and they all also seemed to really dislike the word so I went into some research and found that to be a very common opinion and thought it'd be best to just replace the actual effect title
@@1AMWolfram I get it! It's not everyone's cup of tea being called dwarf or the latter. Having a label over ya and being called it is a bit disorienting, haha ^^;
@@MacronsKitten yeah I know, but if I come across let's say an 8 yr old who says they're trans/nonbinary I'm questioning the parents. There's a 7 yr old nonbinary VA for the owl house, ain't no way a 7 yr woke up one day and decided he was nonbinary
‘im questioning the parents’ you sound like someone who thinks trans people are grooming kids into being trans, like genuinely what IS the issue with a kid going ‘actually, maybe im trans’ like give me an ACTUAL reason on what the issue with that is.
Yume Nikki alongside OFF is, like, 50% the reason we have UnderTale, one of the best, most influential games ever made.
OFF is definitely another title that I need to talk about! I listen to the soundtrack alot but have never actually played the game itself
@@1AMWolfram If the videos of yours I saw are anything to go by, I think you'll like quite a few RPG Maker games.
Fun Fact: metal gear solid was also a pretty big influence for Toby Fox to make Undertale a Metafictional game
Yume Nikki has inspired many indie devs over the years and deserves the praise it gets. It's a shame not many people talk about it anymore.

Yume Nikki was my first exposure to horror that wasn't just jumpscares or a simple monster/killer

well all i know is any nightmares i had stopped when i said to myself "thats a great video game idea"
Seeing this video genuinely made me happy. It's amazing that people are still this interested in Yume Nikki!

Great video, never heard the theory about the twins/deformity thing before, but really like that interpretation
yayyyy new wolfram video, watching in bed as i get ready to sleep at a time when normal people wake up lol
Literally my favourite game of all time this made me so happy
We are feasting tonight with this upload

"Piss...*Cat owner noises*...PissiPissini?"
My favorite game is OMORI, and MAN this game is SO similar to it, I definitely see how it was inspired by yume nikki
This stuff slaps
21:38 reminds me of that claymation baby thing from courage the cowardly dog (i think when hes in a puddle or a tub or something like that)

Fantastic video! Yume Nikki is one of my favourite RPG Maker games together with some of its fan games like Yume 2kki.
YUME NIKKI!!!!!!!

Cats are cute, no reason to be afraid of them
SOMEONE MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT LETS GOOOOooo
There’s lots actually
still waiting for the silent hill homecoming video...
Now we wait for the 2kki video
you covered my top two favorite games back to back what the heck
Wish I had the time to watch this completely, only saw it just as I'm heading to work!

Correction regarding sleepwalking: you ARE meant to wake someone up, they can be distressed yes but doing so prevents dangerous behavior whilst asleep
you pronounce madotsuki's name - and ONLY that name, none of the other japanese names - with a THICK tokyo accent. it's so funny to me 😆
I didn't even notice haha! Her name was the only one that I really looked into how to pronounce because I knew it'd be the name that I'd be saying the most
If you liked Yume Nikki you should definitely try out Witch’s Heart. I also only just realized I’m saying this with a Witch’s Heart pfp
I love rpg maker horror!!!
PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON SPEC OPS: THE LINE
I am very excited!
time to watch another PEAK vid
interpretated lol
i like how you combinated
The trans reading while i think is very unlikly has always been my favourite interpretation
Great video ::3
NEW UPLOAD YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH'
You ever think about covering the 3D remake?
the 3D remake sucks

17:30 isnt she a child tho?
