I don't have a problem with the tapping. Engineering studies have shown that gentle tapping of brick while being laid increases tensile bond strength with mortar from 25-50 % ! I would sacrifice any other perceived benefit one may anticipate by hand pressure only to achieve the real bond strength realized. That finding was discovered by masonry engineer Christine Beall and published in several of her papers and one of the books she has authored.

You will learn with experience speed is not everything. A full head joint is far superior than just a spit from jointer. After a few years to the weather you will see all those little corners start to pop. It's ok to have fun and throw them in but experience will teach you to slow down a bit. thanks for the vid.

News flash losers , you're NOT that good , and every single person in your trade who is around you thinks you're an asshole and secretly ( if not openly ) totally hated you . Hahaha it's so simple to see your type from a mile away . Pointing at the work and talking loud " look at THAT spot , OMG it's so bad . That's the luxury of you idiots doing commercial piece work . You don't have to go back and tool your work because no one knows or cares . Private work ALWAYS has to be tooled because it has to be presentable and respectable . Apparently you know nothing about THAT side of the job . Keep building your malls back . This guy is good. He lays bricks the same way I was taught to lay them by a trade school teacher in the US years ago. The key to laying bricks fast is in the mud spreading. Spread just enough mud where you can press out enough mortar out of the bed joint, to butter the head joint. My teacher never once tapped on a brick, the mud was mixed to the right consistency where he pressed it with his hand. If you're tapping on a brick, it's costing you time. If you have to tap on the brick, it means your mud needs a little water and is too dry. This teacher, by himself, would brick a 3 bedroom home in 2 days. He could lay bricks faster than you could throw them to him. I never layed bricks for a living and just took the class to know how to build my own home. Unfortunately the careers of most bricklayers are usually over by age 40 due to back problems from bending over and this was one reason I didn't want to make a career out of it.

All these melts talking rubbish behind a screen I'm a brickie and there ain't nothing wrong with what this guy is doing in fact I'd say he's a top trowel, yea there marked a bit but if you know your stuff then you should know engineers always mark up, give it a brush and a few months of weathering that wall won't have a mark on it.. you see so many chancers trying to lay bricks these days it's nice to see there's still a good few trowels about, but most good trowels won't go near a site now it's not worth hassle or the money were all doing domestic work like this walls extensions etc and by the way that's a good technique you got there you don't see it much, you really get in the rhythm bet you stick a few down don't ya! Nice to see they let a labourer have a go . That wall will be lucky to last the summer the way his laid those bricks . This guy ain't got a clue . Unfortunately people who know nothing about brick laying will watch this and think his good . The mix is wrong . The bricks are not level . His laid bricks in the wrong order. Some bricks have been laid upside down.
