Voyagers of the Jump is an original adventure using the 2022 2nd Edition Update to the Traveller RPG rules set by Mongoose Publishing.
First published in 1977, Traveller is a science fiction RPG in the vein of The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica. Most who played the original game back in the day remember the robust character creation system where if you push too far and get unlucky with the dice, you can die before you even start playing.

Love the fact their ride home is a jalopy of a starship. It’s like the equivalent of a Res car in space; held together with duct tape, chicken wire, chewing gum, a bump sticker saying “Free Leonard Peltier”, and a prayer every time you start it up.

There's a whole internet discourse out there discussing astronauts and smoking. Who knew? Apparently John Glenn did but quit before or early into Mercury. One thing to remember is that the early Astronauts were almost entirely military test pilots, which mean combat pilots prior, and there used to be a confluence of smoking with adrenaline junkies until the 80s. By early astronauts of course i'm talking the mid to late 20th century american variety. The Ancient Astronauts were more into ayahuasca than tobacco.

I love the lifepath system. Sidney going all the way in Navy was so much fun to watch
This char creation system leads to very fascinating results. Probably my fave cha cre system to watch.
Skid: There is a military term (and a great comic strip) that refers to ending a career as a lance corporal: terminal lance. (A Marine Corps rank in the U.S.; the army equivalent would be Specialist 4th Class, or E4, which would make you part of the "E4 mafia). Usually people would only do a full career and end up at E4 if they were promoted and then demoted, often more than once--which would usually lead to refusal to be offered reenlistment unless there was a really critical need for your skills.)

In the science fiction novel that I'm writing, it took my protagonist 10,000 years of cryogenic slumber to travel only 68 light years. This was traveling at 1/4 the speed of light.
The great rift/space is so large that unless we have warp technology, it is inconceivable to imagine traveling it with our current level of technology.
Even with solar sails, currently only a hypothetical technology to humanity, we could only achieve 10% the speed of light.
Sci-fi games like Rimworld suppose that cryogenic slumber is the best way to transport humans on these impossibly long voyages through space, but even our current scientist cannot bring a frozen body back to life yet.
We've definitely got some kinks to work out first.

Hi Matthew, thanks for running this. And I didn't realise you wrote it! Even cooler.
I wasn't sure what I'd find when I watched this, but I'm started to get a real nice feeling, down in my gutty wuts, like I've found some space friends to hang out with once in a while. I haven't listened to season 1, and will catch up with that once I'm up to date with season 2. Gonna try and watch live on Twitch, though it starts 12pm tuesday over here (or Dow' nunda! mate)
But I get a very different vibe, like its slower, cooler, more deeply run char interactions and background, far more player-controlled story and universe items as well, just lovely. So thanks to everyone for their contributions!
Skid is great as a well known, Sydney is adorable everywhere (and I'm quite familiar with her now), Alicia is a delight beam of sunlight through the haze of a gloomy planet that gets in the way of your vid-screen when awaiting your ride off the Bucket, and Seth is quite cool as the loud spoken but not over-talking newest (to me) guy.
It truly is lovely, I hope I'm conveying that, like a lovely rainfall over a calm river. Space is beautiful, certainly our fantastic/sf version of it.

Pug was constantly promoted to and demoted from Lance-Corporal I think.
You would typically reach lance corporal in about 1.5-2 years. Never reaching it in 16 is insane. Like you need a helmet not a rifle.
The Imperial Army is not the American Army.
Other armies have career Lance-Corporals.

Why would anyone be put off by Alicia's expressions? She gives honest & vivid reactions. I take that as her immersion in the story.
Wish I could play with a group like this. Trying to convince anyone to play TTRPG in general is tough. Trying to convince TTRPG gamers to play something outside of D&D is tougher for me lately. I'd play with these guys in a heartbeat!

Jeez, when I heard that the crew was ordered to destroy the station, my first thought was "How much trouble would I be in if I did it and this message is a fake"
You're working overnight at a gas station and the next shift is running late. Two scruffy guys in a battered pickup roll up and hand you a note from Shell saying that the station isn't making a profit, so burn it down to prevent Esso from moving in.
There is no phone. How closely would you examine that document?

Pug is there cause while he is to valuable to the military. But since he is a forever Lance, they sent him there due to his age its where old armadillos go before they retire
When I was in the military, when it was time to change assignments you would talk to your Detailer who had a list of billets to fill. They'd try to match you up with one you'd like. In this case the Detailer had a billet in the butt end of nowhere, and did an awesome sales/snow job on the dead end career corporal Dillo. Pug found out when he got here what isolated nothing job it was and finally musters out in frustration.

Tantalising implications for things to come 🙂 - no overt clues, but barely-there suggestions of how this season may go ... 🤓🧐 One thing interestingly different here from the Traveller norm is that it appears this is going to be an "Active Duty" campaign rather than the usual 'band of freelancers jumping around' set-up. ["Active Duty" in the sense that the characters will be still serving in their careers in this season - rather than having mustered out.]
Repeated references of "your next orders" seem to imply the Active Duty angle. 🧐🤓🤔

2.2995 Kessel Runs at most. Hard to say for sure since I only know Han could do it in less than 12, but not by how much.
One lightyear is supposedly 5,878,625,373,183.6 miles. So, 529,076,283,586,524, or 90 years at the speed of light and any time you want once we junk in FTL and survivable hyperspace. A parsec is 1.917e+13...(thirteen zeros) miles. 27.5941 parsecs, give or take. Doable!
I can't go to space. I'm so bummed. So I suffer from chronic kidney stones. It's the worst. I got my first one at 9 years old. I get at least one a year. I was told that if I go to space and get a stone it can kill you in 0 gravity. It becomes a bullet floating around your body ripping your insides.
Islands Subsectors. Did anyone else read and mess with Trillion Credit Squadron (traveler adventure 5) in their youth? I planned all sorts of military campaigns through these worlds.
