An Auburn Tiger here...I thought we were in trouble when Bama hired him. Then I remember this press conference and KNEW we were in trouble. You can see the fire, the leadership, the intelligence which continues to this day in his mid-sixties. He has brought SEC football national respect... SEC football seemed to be more regional before he rebuilt Bama. His success on the field helped make Alabama into a more respected academic school and helped raise millions to rebuild the campus. He gave the state a bigger sense of pride. And I think he even made Auburn better in many ways..drove us to be better...he handled the kick-six with class. Much respect to Coach Saban. Best. Coach. @whodatn4l948 To have the right mindset. If you want to be successful in anything that you do, you have to have a vision for what you want to accomplish. But then you have to define the process of what it takes to get there...what you can relentlessly do every day to work towards achieving that vision. Don't set your sights on the goal, don't set your sights on the result, instead focus all of your energy on being where your feet are today and maintain the discipline to do what you need to do today with pride in your performance...be the very best you can be at what you are doing right now in this moment. There's 3 things that you can do that require no ability at all. 1. Give effort, it takes no ability to give effort. You don't have to be the fastest runner to run as fast as you can. 2. Have the mental toughness to sustain a high level of performance regardless of the circumstances or how you feel. 3. Be responsible to do what you know that you are supposed to do. Where most people fail is having the discipline to maintain this high level of performance, so you have to make a decision every single day to relentlessly pursue the process of what it takes to reach that vision that you have for yourself. You have to choose what you are doing with the time that you have, you can spend it, or you can invest your time in to doing whatever it takes to get you better today than where you were yesterday. I'm a convicted felon who is now grown up from where I was when I was a stupid kid...There's adversity that I have to face everyday but I don't let that keep me down...I'm now married with 3 kids and failure is not an option. I've gone from making $21k per year to now well over 6 figures and I won't ever stop climbing. I raise my kids by these principles and I pray that by giving them a stronger foundation than what I had they too will be more successful in their endeavors. So, no. I never played football for Nick Saban, but he very much had a positive impact on my life and I have no doubt that I am in a better place today because I listened to what he had to say. And it changed my life. Oh...and I like football too.
By helping me develop the mindset to be responsible for my own determination and achieve the goals and vision that I have for myself. You have to have a vision for what you want to accomplish. You have to be able to overcome whatever adversity you are faced with and you have to have the discipline to relentlessly execute the process of what it takes to move you toward achieving that vision on a day to day basis without compromise. So first...have a vision for yourself. Second...define what you can do everyday to get where you need to go.
Where most people fail is not having the discipline to keep going. They get tired, they get distracted, or some other circumstances get in the way. You have to press forward regardless of whatever is going on. The biggest opportunity to learn and grow is when you fail. So how are you handling the hard times? How you handle the hard times defines who you are as a person. It helps determine your character. Your character is determined by your thoughts, your habits, and your priorities. What you think...what you do...and what is important to you.
What are you doing with your time? Are you spending your time doing the things that don't matter and won't help you? Or are you investing your time into the things that will help you grow and be more successful at what you want to accomplish? Right now I'm investing time in whoever is taking the time to read this. I hope this helps you.

Seeing this after Saban retired, this hits hard. I understand why he retired so he can take care of his wife. This man is a great husband, father, and was a great coach. The world has changed, none of us can go back. All we can do is our best, and sometimes the best we can do, is to start over. Let’s make Saban proud this upcoming season.

This is the most charismatic and emotional introductory press conference from any coach that I've ever seen. I was watching this live and I was convinced beyond a doubt that Alabama would win a national championship with Saban. Little did I know, they would have six titles by 2021.
I wonder if Mal Moore ever really realized what was about to take place at Alabama when Coach Saban was hired as Head Coach of Alabama. Having good people is the most important thing you can do to have a great program. Saban is an expert at hiring the right staff and finding the best players and leading them to play together one play at a time.

If I could go back in time and tell all bama fans such as myself all of the championships and accomplishments Saban has achieved, NO ONE would believe that anyone could be that successful. Nick Saban is the best thing that has happened in the history of the state of Alabama
People talking about all the 5 star recruits and he wouldn’t win without them. Saban told Mal Moore on the plane “you didn’t hire the best coach, you hired the best recruiter in college football”
He also told the University president, "I run this fucking school. You do things my way, schedule everything around football, and give me what I want or I'm going elsewhere everything I want
Damn i wish Tennessee would have gotten to him 1st with the players we had at the time bama hired him he would have won a natty after the 1st year probably hes truly the Greatest College Football coach of All Time he will never lose that no1 will ever come close to doing what he has done at Bama and is continuing to do. If mal moore slept all day every day on his couch in his office, and literally just made this one decision, he would still be the greatest athletic director in college history just for this hire. He also did alot more but its literally the greatest hire in college history.
I used to hate Saban I am not an Alabama fan But I like him. He makes sense. Even his explanation for leaving Miami made sense. It was honest and legitimate, and is a good lesson. If your heart is not in it, than do not just do it to do it. It takes a strong and honest guy to admit that.
So, im an Auburn fan, and i remember this day like it was yesterday. I have to say though, that I never expected that I would be PROUDER to be an SEC fan because of Nick Saban. He made us all better. And in alot of ways, hes even partially responsible for what success Auburn has had since he got to UA. He forced Auburn to get better. Im convinced that Auburn would not have a National championship, 2 National championship game berths, 2 SEC championships, and 3 SEC west titles if Nick Saban wasnt coaching the Tide. No doubt in my mind. So i guess im also thankful on a more selfish level lol. But, im sure that if most auburn fans saw this comment id judt get called a closet "bammer" or stupid or whatever the hell it is they say. Opinions of dissent arent usually tolerated inside " the family" lol. But anyways, roll tide guys. And i hope you guys win it all this year!
Nick Saban now has one six national titles at Alabama. His seventh championship was at LSU in 2003. He has surpassed the late and grate Paul "Bear" Bryant.
And what a chapter he has written. As a lifelong Tide fan I will say this, I never in my wildest dreams (it never came close to even crossing my mind) believed that another coach would reach the pinnacle of success at UA that Bear Bryant did... let alone that I would live to witness it. It's been a great ride coach. RTR!!!

Just watched this myself after he retired and I’m an auburn fan. As a huge football fan, player, and youth coach, he’ll be missed as the AL coach. He’s the best!!!!
It’s amazing what he went on to accomplish at Alabama.
Thank you Mal Moore and Ms. Terry!!!! ROLL TIDE ROLL
One of the greatest days of my life. Coach Saban has rewarded Alabama fans with more success than we could dream.
Here in 2021 & Wow! This Razorback has been won over by this Coach....truly a Legend for all time and possibly the GOAT as a college football coach
We will miss you Saban 🐐
Happy retirement, Coach Saban!
When Saban finally retired, i was like wow wonder if i see his shoes get filled* deboer*? hopefully yeh* but scary too*🫡💥🗽
This is the most charismatic and emotional introductory press conference from any coach that I've ever seen. I was watching this live and I was convinced beyond a doubt that Alabama would win a national championship with Saban. Little did I know, they would have six titles by 2021.
🐐 The moment it began... historic since way back when
What a Incredible Human Being !!!!
I wonder if Mal Moore ever really realized what was about to take place at Alabama when Coach Saban was hired as Head Coach of Alabama.
I'm sure Mal thought "if nothing else maybe Coach Saban can get Alabama back to being a competitive football college...maybe get back to the SEC Championship game...maybe beat Auburn."
But dang...I sure didn't see this all coming!!!
God Bless Coach Mal Moore
God Bless The Crimson Tide
God Bless The State Of Alabama
God Bless Coach Nick Saban
God Bless Alabama Saturdays In The Fall
God Bless The S.E.C. Conference
Thank You Sweet Jesus...(I Always Knew You Were A Crimson Tide Fan)
Roll Tide Roll
I'll never forget Mal Moore's introduction of Saban, with the reporter golf clap that followed as Saban approached the podium. It was played on sports radio nonstop for over a week after the hire... And I lived in upstate New York at the time. That 10 second audio clip will never get out of my head
thank you, coach.
Coming back to watch this in 2024.... im so lucky to have been alive and old enough to remember when he came to town
Having good people is the most important thing you can do to have a great program. Saban is an expert at hiring the right staff and finding the best players and leading them to play together one play at a time.
Trust the Process

@@waynewilliams5802 xD that man signed a 10 year extension if im correct I'd say 2-3 more at a minimum
@@SWalker71 when he made his comment it was 6 no need to go correcting him.
good on you Alabama. I used to hate it, but now I admire it. I like winners. The Huskers are not that right now, but hopefully someday we can be as good as you guys again.
Hey Gene has anyone ever offered you a class on humility? YOu UAT people really are arrogant on top of being naïve and foolish. Throw in delusional while the discussion is taking place.
Duke Moose really you of all people don't get to comment that bc you're one classless piece of shit ive seen your comments you always down bama and trash the fans but you're apparently really classy... Yeah ok sure
UAT Crimson Turds are the third best team in the SEC. The Moose has spoken. Sit down and shut up now.
Duke Moose you're such a no life dude how can you troll this much for years it's sad dude
You dudes just hired the UCF Coach, Scott Frost, who coached this year's true National Champion.
ROLL TIDE IT NEVER GETS OLD!
17 glorious years this man provided to the Bama faithful. Wish he could have gone out a winner, but either way, he delivered on his promise he made here.
“…gone out a winner”. What does that mean? National champion? Can’t lose a game? Does he have to win everything to be a winner?
@@bikerbruce1988 not lost his final game, essentially. So yes, a national championship
Very elitist and nitpicky.........even the VERY BEST can't go out perfectly unless they script it out perfectly like the NFL does nowadays.
@@pokarob26rolltide48 why on earth am I bad person for wanting the man to have won one more championship to ride off into the sunset with? He hated losing, and I didn't want that to be the last thing on his coaching resume
Saban is brilliant. LSU here - it took 20 years to break what that man built.
Nothings broken lol Bama is still elite and LSU is garbage again
@@Sean-jc6cu update?
"I want to win every game we ever play!" - Nick Saban. Well, he doesn't win them all, but it's pretty close.
About 90% of them, which is pretty remarkable given the strength of the other SEC teams.
88 percent
"I want to win every game we play!" What a complete failure that statement turned out to be, and they keep extending his contract and giving him more money.

Here we are on 1/15/2021, and Coach Saban just led Bama to his second undefeated season and won his 6th National.Championship in 12 years. His 7th SEC Championship and 5th in 7 years. I'd say this worked out pretty dang good.
I was on a bus bound for Florida when I found this news out. A guy next to me had told me this. I looked at him and I told him I give us three to four years Nick saban will have won a national championship. He looked at me like I was crazy. I wish I had to come on his bet of a $1,000. But then again six national championships can't complain. Roll tide
Legendary head coach. So proud of the man. Roll Tide!
No
And the rest is history!!!RTR!!!
I was living in N. Virginia when he was introduced. Now I am back home in Sweet Home Alabama enjoying my Crimson TIDE 🐘🐘🐘🐘
I only came back to this video on this special day to share who would ever thought from the day of the Nick Saban introduction to UA to now having his name added to the extension Bryant Denny Stadium to "Saban Field" at Bryant Denny Stadium. 🏟 What an incredible accomplishment Nick Saban achieved to bring Alabama out the dark and into the shining light of Championships. Thank you Nick. 🐐 #ROLLTIDE 🐘
The most crucial hire for Alabama football hiring Nick Saban cause he was right for the crimson tide cause playing vs his teams are tough and remember Be A Champion
Ohio State alumni here, he's the greatest head coach in North American sports
This was actually 11 years ago today. I was so happy.
The GOAT is getting ready to win his 7th Natty...
Roll Tide!
Nick Saban was the only one who knew what the fuck is about to happen.
That an lsu fans! We tasted a few years with him. Thats why ppl hold grudges to this day, not becaase they don’t respect him. But bc what could have been! Great man and coach. Generational talent, his legacy with transpire many many generations!
I liked this Video I have Respect of Nick Saban
What?! You're an Auburn fan. That shocks me! Especially after your previous comment.
He sounds then like he does now. Fired up!
Awesome!!! Tremendous Wisdom for anybody who is inclined to listen.
Not even an Alabama fan but I truly respect the hell out of Saban. What a legend. The game will miss him greatly.
Don’t forget good ole interim coach Joe Kines. That halftime interview was classic.
39:42 I love how they ask about the statue and he actually literally has one now.
Damn!
He also told the University president, "I run this fucking school. You do things my way, schedule everything around football, and give me what I want or I'm going elsewhere everything I want
The day everyone remembers.... Roll Tide!!!
"And God said let there be light"
And on this day, Alabama Football became a dynasty. Again.
Uh um. Bear bryant....
There, comment edited. Happy now?@@jezuzfreek777
Thanks for everything, Nick... we'll miss you. We'll miss loving to hate you as well... but you left a legacy that will never be matched.
You Bama fans have been blessed im speaking to the fans who are not apart of the 09ers and bandwagoners. Much respect to Nick Saban and all that he has done and yet to do. With that being said GO VOLS!
Think about how close the trajectory of CFB is. You guys were SO close to hiring Rich Rodriquez.
Joshua g Dodged a bullet! Whew!
Coming back on the day he announced his retirement. Thank you Coach saban. The best to ever do it. Roll tide
Still love this video, ROLL TIDE!
My God what a hire Mal moore hell of a recruiting job
Greatest Coach of All Time. Period.
Awesome comment.
Truly beautiful sentiment. Great sportsmanship. Very classy. Just like Saban
I wonder if Mal Moore knew at the time He just Hired the GOAT
This needs more views
I’d vote for Nick Saban in 2024.
Roll Tide!
Thanks for the memories coach!
RTR!!!
Can't have a better introductory press conference than that. A fully mature coach ready to roll.
He certainly did write his own chapter in Tide history. Actually, he has written several chapters at this point.
