The three games with Cardale starting with Wisconsin and ending with a National championship win are some of the best memories i have as a Buckeye fan. He is one of my favorite players all time! Great young man!!
Urban, you are the reason why the Big Ten has improved over the past 15 years. Your decision to coach at Ohio State in 2012 was the football equivalent of taking a finger out of the Dyke for the entire conference. They had to follow suit and start to build their programs, many of which are on a path to contention in this decade, which began in the last. I remember when the job opened. I was watching a sporting event (cannot recall what) with a group of friends and one of them said, wouldn’t it be great if Urban Meyer took the head coaching job at Penn State, which was also open. Having roots in Ohio, I turned to him and said there is only one job in college football that Urban Meyer would ever agree to, and that is the Buckeyes. 10 minutes later an announcement came over the chyron on the TV screen that you were considering/negotiating for the OSU head coaching job. The key (of many) was that you were prepared to recruit all over the nation for the best players, players that only you at the time could attract. Up until that point, the Buckeye’s primary recruiting was Ohio-centric. More flattery…in my opinion, you (along with perhaps Gene Smith) are probably the most important figures in modern Buckeye football. O-H!
Urban’s favorite team growing up was Notre Dame. I remember he said in an interview years ago, his dream job was to be a head coach at Notre dame. Hell, his own son was baptized at Notre Dame if i remember correctly.
What people don't pay as much attention to is how impactful the pre-season rankings are. they bump these SEC schools higher due to bias in pre-season, and that is like an anchor point the entire season then. had the SEC schools been more fairly ranked, this regular-season thought that the SEC was dominating wouldn't be there. It wasn't until the bowl games did you see the real story.
I read a comment that the rule says you can run 11 on and off as long as the long snapper never touches the ball. This is exactly what happened in the game and it was simply a brilliant gamble by Notre Dame's HC.
Ill never forget when Cardale and Glenville came down to Wayne when we had Braxton Miller, and both teams were top 5 in the state . Wayne goes up 7-0 right away, and then Cardale just starts throwing bombs and they ended up blowing us out real bad! I mean, it was like 40-7 or something crazy like that at one point...in our brand new stadium too😂😢 tough night
It’s tough for the SEC know that NIL has given actual student athletes the opportunity to play for legitimate schools with academic integrity and not take the payments and basket weaving degrees from the Traditional football factory colleges.
Let’s be clear the BIGTEN was not close to the SEC in 2012 and Coach Urban changed that by changing OSU play style. Then many other teams followed. Coach was at the forefront of this.
6 SEC bowl teams LOST and looked bad. Wolverines beat Alabama! Notre Dame beat Georgia! Illinois beat South Carolina! Ohio St Beat Tennessee! USC beat Texas A&M, Oklahoma lost to Navy
Preseason hype is so much about Bama, LSU, UGA, even Ole Miss, etc . that if they lost it becomes that SEC is deep. If the same thing happens in BIG, then OSU, Mich, PSU arereally not that good
Great show, fellas ... Go, Bucks! I must add, btw, Cardale got his chance to shine late in 2014 and ran with it all the way to a Chip ... 12-Gauge, Ohio State/Natty Legend
The thing about SEC is they are a hype machine and the reason they won so many Nattys is because they got so many at-bats in BCS and playoff era. There is so much politikking even to date if an SEC team got left out and how deep and great they are despite the record. To this day no other conference does that
The BCS format doesn’t allow for anything but the computer model to matter. SEC teams dominated that format, because they were better teams. SEC teams dominated the past decade of CFP, because they have been the better teams.
And the fact Al Goldens Defense is doing this with a litany of injuries on Defense is MIND-BLOWING 🤯 All-American 1st rd CB, All-American DT, your 1a & 1b EDGE rushers. Howard Cross has been injured half the season. & missing Onye who was the backup DT. Truly remarkable. Deepest this ND Defense has been in over a decade
I listen to every episode on audio only but had to pop over to leave a comment on this episode. No disrespect to Mark, but I think the dynamic between just having Rob and Coach is a level up. Seemed like both were able to air all of their thoughts, and imo felt less congested. My $.02
What didn’t go well for Al Golden in the NFL? He was linebacker coach for the Bengals, whom he helped reach the superbowl in his final season before going to Notre Dame. Baseless comment.
You are absolutely wrong Urban. There are very many documented cases of eshit-sec/acc paying players. Eshit-sec has been doing this for 20-30 years. NIL is slowly starting to even the playing field.
Jeremiah is a Generational talent 😎but with that said there will be people lobbying for Freshmen able to declare after there 1st year and that’ll make keeping and or Building a roster will be tough😔or they sign contracts to play 3or4 years NFL here we are 😎
In all reality, these kids leave HS and are immediately professionals thanks to NIL. There is no more "college" football as an amateur sport, it's now just another professional league akin to a developmental league. I see no reason to make these kids play in college at all anymore. If they have the size/skill and someone wants to draft them in the NFL, then go for it. I know a certain 19 year old OSU WR who could start in the League now.
@@MichaelWilson-gi3gp not at all a similar comparison. A 7th grader is not fully developed physically like a senior in HS. However an 18 year old is often fully developed physically compared to a 30 year old. Jeremiah Smith, case and point. 6'3" 215 lbs, just turned 19 and skilled enough to be in the NFL. I never said it would happen often but there are always freaks of nature that break the mold.
We still hide from the fact that the best players live down south. More of them are starting to leave now. In time, the talent difference won't be as great, because of NIL. Guess who's crying the most about it? Saban retired, and he's still against it.
Jake Butt, another example of a player seriously injured in their final bowl game who was never the same thereafter. His NFL career was effectively ended when he was injured in that game
The SEC still has most of best athletes, but difference is they are not all siting behind starters at Bama, GA, FL, and who ever else they are much more spread out or they are going to different conferences all together.
@ I’m saying as in when they are leaving like a lot of them are going to other places in the SEC, such as going to Ole Miss, South Carolina, Missouri etc, instead of sitting behind other stars at Bama or GA or LSU. So they are just more spread out, so if player is tired or gets hurts they don’t have same depth as what they usually had before, so those higher end teams will get exposed more as season goes on and gets longer and injuries pile up.
I guess I Indiana doesn't deserve any mention now. You guys are still stuck in the brand thing. This years IU team would have been in the run for the SEC championship.
let's not get ahead of ourselves and go full fantasy mode. Cignetti would have had a losing record in the SEC. Indiana benefitted from the 18 team conference. If PSU, Oregon and Illinois were on their schedule then Indiana ends season 8-4.
Cardale jones 59 0 wisc 42 35 Alabama then came in and smashed oregon in the national title probley the greastest run bye 3rd string qb in college football made him a house hold name in ohio and ill tell u what happen is nil is what happen to the sec
Hot take alert!! Penn State plays Texas in the final. Don’t know what the hype is about for the other two teams. Georgia and Oregon were dumbfounded by playing for the first time and couldn’t adjust. Now they are up against more experienced playoff teams.
I guess you’ve been living with your head up your ass if you don’t know what the hype is about OSU and Notre Dame. Texas just gave up 500 yards to Arizona St! Hilarious
ND had 5 starters out for season, 2 rotational players out for season, 2 players in Love and Cross injured during the game and couldn't play much and you're complaining about your QB... also, two of the players out for season are 1st round picks in CB Ben Morrison and Dlineman Rylie Mills, a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Also, Carson Beck after this year, is nothing more than a late round pick at best and possible transfer portal guy because Georgia back up is better all around
Everybody already predicted this excuse from the ND haters long before that game was even played. And all the chest-thumpers predicting that Georgia was going to blow out ND anyway are now nowhere to be found.
@@Necile2 Now we have all these PSU chest thumpers claiming they are going to blow out ND. Not sure where that confidence is coming from, PSU has done nothing this year compared to the SEC champ bulldogs.

Cardale jones is one of the biggest legends in buckeye history with how that year played out and his level of play when he stepped up
Watched this just to see Cardale. You're a LEGEND in our house baby!!! Hope life is treating you well.
Urban’s favorite team growing up was Notre Dame. I remember he said in an interview years ago, his dream job was to be a head coach at Notre dame. Hell, his own son was baptized at Notre Dame if i remember correctly.

I bet Urban’s biggest football regret is that he never coach Notre Dame
Cardale should 1000% start a podcast
Notre dame NFL talent in last 10 years are pretty impressive. Probably top 5
academics too

He's a moron who needs to go away.

finally been waiting for this to come out! and CARDALE JONEEES, need gus johnson to introduce him

If Urban Meyer doesn’t admit there is a huge bias in the CFP world for the SEC, he’s not being truthful. We all see it.
It’s tough for the SEC know that NIL has given actual student athletes the opportunity to play for legitimate schools with academic integrity and not take the payments and basket weaving degrees from the Traditional football factory colleges.
could you be any more smug?
Degrees? 😂 student athletes? 😂
Always good to see 12Gauge a true Buckeye legend ❤🤍❤🤍❤
I still say NIL will make coaches develop lesser players to have depth because you cant keep young 5 stars for backups anymore.
Let’s be clear the BIGTEN was not close to the SEC in 2012 and Coach Urban changed that by changing OSU play style. Then many other teams followed. Coach was at the forefront of this.

Buckeyes should win the natty. Doesn’t mean they will… but they should win it. They have the best roster.
Best roster?? Yeah. However if the best roster won every year my team ( Hurricanes) would and should've won 15 national titles.

CARDALE JONES IS and WILL ALWAYS BE AN OHIO STATE LEGEND!
The big drop by bell didn’t change anything, they scored their only TD on that same drive, it was more optics
ND by 3, OSU by 10

Cardale Jones is the Ohio State goat! I will always love him for his run he had to help us get that chip! OH.......
