    Thanks so much for this Frank. I bought a lovely 2009 Saab 9-3 convertible last week and the full beam wasn't working - would flash, but not stay on. The garage that the dealer sent me to said it would need a replacement CIM and a switch unit and keys - they quoted £150. Having seen your great video, I just took it all apart, cleaned and re-tensioned the contacts and rebuilt it - result - everything working great - cost £0

      I have the same problem with my 9-3 convertible from 04. Nice job. I am going to attempt to do this on my car, but I’m a little weary of taking the steering wheel off

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexraia1377 probably best to disconnect the battery half an hour before you start - just to make sure that the airbag doesn't deploy somehow. Also , when removing the large central nut, I find it fairly easy to hold the steering whel still with my knees. oh, and be careful not to break the wires to the ring around the steering column. it can be hard to break the steering wheel free even after you've removed the nut so you want to make sure you don't break anything else when trying!

    Cruise control on off and the daisy wheel to turn the cruise control down or up, at least that’s how it is on mine. Enjoying your video. All the best Nigel

    Thank you for the video! I’ve got a problem with turn indicator on Saab 9-3 2008 , it doesn’t work, everything else works fine . I take it it’s possible to take it apart and try to fix it , isn’t it?

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, of course. It's all controlled from the same switches in the CIM. you'll need to remove the airbag (disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes first), then the steering wheel, then the CIM.

  • @FA-bq5oz
    @FA-bq5oz ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When removing the CIM there's that little red key that holds the steering position sensor stuff all in line.
    I'm going to do this fix but i don't have one of those keys, is there any alternatives because i can't find where to buy just that key, thanks

    I noticed at 14:45 you put the slider in the opposite way around to the one you do at 32:02.
    Which way round is the correct way?
    I am having issues with my indicator stalk - I've cleaned it all up, put it all back and now the full beam is stuck on. Not sure what I've done wrong

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well spotted! The first one was indeed wrong. The pins should be facing outward otherwise they'd never touch the final contact points.

    wow. very enlightening. i wish i had this knowledge. im having problems on my 9 3 with left indicator and main beam wont stay on. i think this problem must occur on most soft tops because moisture gets into the contacts. im undecided as to try and fix this myself or just show this video to my local garage and see if they can do it for me....thanks anyway and youve got a new subscriber. cheers

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope the video helps. I`m particularly interested about the main beam not staying on. I`m pretty sure the main beam is controlled by the slider at the rear of the left hand stalk. I think the position is just read by the CIMs electronics as there doesn't seem to be an actual latch or anything to hold the lights on.

    • @russellwatson17
      @russellwatson17 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same issue with my main beam not staying on. Will flash and occasionally will stay on with a bit of "fiddling" but then won't turn off. If you got to the bottom of it I'd be keen to find out what sorted it!

    • @alexraia1377
      @alexraia1377 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@russellwatson17definitely seems like an issue with the convertibles, being that my 04 also has an issue with the high beams not staying on and only flashing. And seems like oxidation on the contacts is the likely culprit.

    This is such a high quality video! Thank you for your recording efforts and expertise. Do you know if this fix is appropriate for a Saab with the dreaded, "Steering wheel lock malfunction" error warning? Or does this repair pertain strictly to wipers, blinkers, and cruise control?
    Many thanks!

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. Sadly, the dreaded "Steering wheel lock malfunction" will not be fixed by this.

    I had an issue where sometimes indicating right did nothing, this got progressively worse. So I took every apart like you did here, cleaned everything up and put it all back the same way you did. Now the left indicator is stuck on & so are full beams. Cruise Control still works. Not sure what has happened. Any ideas? I'm going to take it out again and have another look

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's about all I can suggest really. Perhaps check the direction of the little white slide inside. if it's around the wrong way, it may explain whats happening. Frank.

    My wipers aren't working on top speed, do you think the problem could be here? Have changed the motor and issue remains so I'm thinking I'll have a go at this and see are any of the connections bad.

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it very well could be. If the contacts are dirty, it may not register in the top position.

    Hi, I have a 9-3 diesel 2008. No power is getting to the ICM. I know this as I took a live feed to the ICM wiring and dash lights came on, fuel pump powered up etc. What wire is the power feed to the ICM do you know ( colour(s) ) ? David.

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  ปีที่แล้ว

      According to WIS, On the CIM, Pin 1 is +30 (always powered) and Pin 23 is +15 (switched, meaning only when the ignition is on) Pin 7 is ground

    Curious to know if you've dealt with Hatch release mechanism electronic issues. When opening it clicks as if it's open than immediately clicks again and locks again making the hatch almost impossible to get open. PS it does the same thing with the key. And where did you get that fiber pen? Thanks in advance for your response.

      Only have experience of the 9-5 hatch mechanism, I`m sorry to say. Here's an ebay link to the fiber pens:- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122420587078?hash=item1c80d5ea46%3Ag%3A9yEAAOSw5z1d-jIf

      Column Integrated Module. It's behind the steering wheel and has the indicator and wiper stalks coming out of it.

    Really nice video ... have an issue with my turn indicators , not working all the time and im pretty sure those mechanisms inside are the issue ... Just to be sure i bought a "broken" used cim (the clockspring had an issue) and i will try to remove mine and either fix it as you did or swap with the used one i got ... Thanks for your input !!

    The direction indicator on the left is broken.
    It is said that only the parts like the video inside the CIM need to be replaced.
    Can I buy yours on eBay that says 'Saab 9-3 CIM Module Repair Parts 3-11 TURN Wiper Switch SteerSensor'?
    Are you sending the CIM box and both parts together like the sales picture?

    If I havent understood it wrong, you dont need the belonging key to the CIM.
    You just need someone with Tech 2 to pair the new CIM to your old key.

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, You'll need a key from the donor car to be able to program new keys to the new CIM. Unless you have a brand new CIM, or a virgin .BIN file that you can load on.

      I have an 08 9-3 that i have written a virgin file with new key programmed to it but when reassembled it just says steering lock malfunction in cluster and isnt working. when trying to program with tech2 it gets most of the way through and always fails after selecting all car options. But keeps failing earlier than that and saying no communication with cim or bcm or ecu.. im leaning towards the ism or maybe just the steering lock not working. Any advise? Customer says he just lost keys and everything was working but they could be lying

    При сборке блока поворота для облегчения нужно снять скобу планку белую. Так легче попасть при установке . А блок дворников вообще не стоит трогать . Ини не так много работают как поворот.🏆🏆🏆

    Great content as usual 👍 what’s you thoughts on smearing a very small amount of vaseline on the contacts or any type of electrical grease🤔

    • @saabfeverfrank
      @saabfeverfrank  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I wouldn't bother as I think the grease could get in the way of the contacts. It's worth mentioning though that I am not an electrical engineer!
