Welcome to the January 2024 episode of the “Not Quite Enough Yarn” Podcast.
This is the story of my attempt at working my way through the stash, but without enough of each single colour to make a sweater.

The “Modification MAL” will run until Sept 2024
Works in progress allowed if started no earlier than Christmas Eve (24th December) 2023.
Prizes will be drawn quarterly from posts on this thread. Each quarter there will be a physical prize (probably yarn), from a post with a picture, and a pattern prize (up to US$15) for a post without a picture.
At the beginning of October a grand prize will be drawn - the winning entry must be a picture of a Finished Object.

Prizes will be announced on the podcast and must be claimed by the 25th of the following month.
What crafts are involved?
All types of knitting or crochet.
All project types are eligible.
What counts as modification?
• Pattern creation - if you design your own patterns, please feel free to include them here.
• Change of structure/dimensions - eg, making something shorter, longer, wider etc.
• Change in construction - eg adding a different heel type, working a pattern in the round when it was written for flat, changing the neckline, making a sweater into a cardigan, adding shaping or darts, etc.
• Including patterns which change gauge - eg cables or colourwork, where modifications are needed to keep the garment size the same.

I change my wips rota depending on the weather, and my 3 week tolerance for any project - that is why I have to make myself yearly challenges, and my online craft group help prod me into finishing things. As long as wips fit into project bags I am happy 😅

Your sweater using the advent yarns looks great! I am trying resist the urge to cast on something new, but I am failing. So, I have about 20 rounds to finish on a hat and then I am going to cast on something, maybe a colorwork cowl that was originally a headband pattern; my modification. Have a great week; cheers!

Modification is the word for the day! I modified a recipe for homemade hummus, yummy! Then the plan was to eat lunch and go out for a long walk on a chilly day however you popped up on TH-cam so plans were modified to include watch time. Thanks for the excuse to modify/delay my walking plan.

Your Recalibrate is breathtaking! As to scallop, in the south of the UK we pronounce the a as an o (i.e. scollop) but in the north it's pronounced as an a. No idea why, but pronunciation appears to be regional, which personally I find rather fascinating. I do enjoy your podcasts and vlogs and must remember to thank Anne of No Excuses podcast for the recommendation 💜🧶💜🧶💜

Perhaps it's related to flat vowels and long vowels? (Bath and "barth")
As a southerner, Scollop sounds more natural to me.

@@NotQuiteEnoughYarn Anne is indeed quite fantastic, and I have had the Mickey taken out of me for years for saying scone rhyming with stone because I sound "posh" when I say it. I'm sure these same people would not use the same word to describe me if they had spent an hour in my company this afternoon while my computer was playing up; the air was positively blue and my husband says he thinks he learned a new word or two 🤣 technology eh? 🤣

My understanding was that scone, to rhyme with stone, was the Scottish pronunciation - but then if that was based on the Stone of Scone, it would be pronounced scoon!

Your Unravelled sweater is absolutely a work of art!! It looks lovely on you. Very nice episode. I made mittens as Christmas gifts this past Christmas. I put thrums inside and they were very soft and cosy. Have a great time at Unravelled!!

I love your Recalibrate! I've got it in my queue as a way of using some of the many single skeins I have in my stash. I also thought using the plastic grid stuff was such a good idea for your battery packs and future stick holders. You've got me wondering if I have a use for it in my life! 🤔

It's useful stuff - but it does feel like making things (tissue box covers) because we can, rather than because we particularly want them? Hope you find a super use for the canvas xx

So if I modified a fingering weight pattern for a hat to be able to knit it with 2 strands of bulky/chunky weight yarn on a much smaller needle size, would that qualify for the Modification KAL?
