    LMAO!
These are the overpriced and overrated "mall ninja" companies!
It doesn't matter if the designers have survival, bushcraft, military and law enforcement experience - a poor design is a poor design, and a higher price tag and replacement warranty - which is paid for and reflected in the big price - doesn't make a knife design reliable for extreme circumstances/uses/tests.
Cold Steel has been called "mall ninja" products (by envious and jealous competition and buyers), but the Truth is that other high priced companies and custom makers are the ones making overpriced "mall ninja" crap that just looks capable, when it really isn't.
Cold Steel is pound for pound, dollar for dollar, performance brand on the market! Period!
I laugh at all the SUCKERS who pay top dollar for framelock knives, that look "hard use" and ultimately fail simple lock strength tests on top of bad blade geometry or metal selection and poor heat treatment.

You know who hates your gross abuse/testing videos?
The buyers and REAL "mall ninja" companies and custom makers like Chris Reeve Knives, Benchmade, Microtech, Tops, Esee, Medford, Strider, and all the other way expensive supposed "hard use" makers.
To my knowledge, Cold Steel has been the ONLY manufacturer to make lock strength strength, cutting geometry and point strength tests for YEARS, while the competition just laughed and mocked.
These abuse tests show buyers who the REAL posers and "mall ninjas" of the knife world are - and it isn't Cold Steel!

Many Cold Steel knives break just as well.
Seen a lot of them breaking myself.
I have broken several Cold Steel knives. Aus8 and 10 are not special cpm s35vn is also breaking quite easy.
Let's not get silly here and be a fanboy of one brand and hate all the others.
      That shows the same mentality.
Any knife can be broken. And if you use them like an imbecile. They will do break.

      Yes.
Plenty of Cold Steel knives have their blades and tips especially broken easy also.
      And their machete's.
      Handles popping off.
But they are not even Cold Steel , maybe Cold Steal.

I really enjoy these tests. If I am going to rely on a tool it makes me feel much better to see someone break it. @pennsyltuckyreb9800 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Depends. There were/are 3 versions. First runs were 1095 and solid. Then they had a few years of a bad run of 1095 where they were chipping out and breaking all over the place. This was about the time the RAT guys left Ontario and created their own RAT company which then became ESEE. They put out the much improved ESEE Junglas.
Typical Ontario, instead of fixing their heat treat problems they just switched the RTAK II over to 5160 steel.
I have an early 1095 RTAK II. You can supposedly tell the difference between which 1095 you have by placing the knife flat on a table. The older, better 1095 will be more blade heavy and the handle will lift off the table. The bad 1095's will not lift the handle off the table. I have no idea how the newer 5160's are.
An ESEE Junglas will lift the handle up. The Junglas is also ever so slightly thicker than the RTAK II though with a slightly finer tip. The Junglas is definitely heavier.
I have yet to destroy either but I much prefer and trust the Junglas over the RTAK II. But both great knives if you know you have a good RTAK.

The tip broke easier than you expected on the Esse Junglas (even though it had a good heat treatment as you noticed) because the 1095 steel, has very little lateral flexibility. That means, it can't flex sideways a lot, as the 1055 does on the Cold steel machetes! (It's also less tough than 1055, but the main reason, was the very little lateral flexibility (means bend left and right) , that 1095 steel has

      Not for utility.
      It's a brick.
People praise knives like that for toughness.
But knives like that are at the cost of comfort of using a knife.
Most people pick light weight knives , smaller knives, for 99 percent of the tasks. Not a BK2 which is lousy in handling the knife. It feels like a brick.
And for bigger tasks a machete will always outchop these 5-10 inch knives. Same for the hatchets. Way more powerful than a Junglas.
It's a typical northern American and partly European thing. The kick for a large blade. It's with combat in mind is my take on it.
Because a machete will always outchop these blades and they are not any heavier either. Reason South America uses machete's not big knives for chopping. Same in Africa.
I can tell you that even Jeff Randall finds the ESEE-5 his least favorite of the ESEE knives.
      And I can only agree.
      For carving it's s h i t e.
It's only good at when you want to do demo things.
And when do people do that. Most never.
Than you have this brick knife that is a b itch in simple knife tasks.
