A team of special force ops, led by a tough but fair soldier, Major "Dutch" Schaefer, are ordered to assist CIA man, Colonel Al Dillon, on a rescue mission for potential survivors of a Helicopter downed over remote South American jungle. Not long after they land, Dutch and his team discover that they have been sent in under false pretenses. RIP Carl Weathers. A fine actor who had memorable roles in Rocky and Predator.
and Action Jackson
And Star Wars
and no small roles, his brief role in close encounters of the third kind
Yoooooo, watching this again with the clear picture and stuff. When Dillon is talking back to Dutch saying they are expendable assts, his eyes started welling up like he was about to cry. I wonder what elicited that reaction.
Also RIP Carl Weathers, goddamn.
Awww man its sad to hear such an icon from all our youths is gone RIP big man 🦾
Only now did I realize that when Dillion calls Dutch expendable, his eyes are tearing up as if he is doesn’t believe what he’s saying or sad at what he is saying. Excellent acting and emotion from Carl Weathers. RIP
That's what John Madden told him as they let him go from the Raiders.
Or he was tearing up because Dutch just slammed his ass into the wall.. hahaha
@@grezdaed yep, that’s what it was, great observation.
someone told me that Carl himself stated that he had a bad tummy case on that day, hence the teary eye. But i can't for the life of me find that statement in the "If it bleeds - The making of predator"
@@grezdaedthat shit hit different. Slamming people into stuff is a lost art of fighting. Lets your opponent know you are stronger. Intimidating!
Arnold, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, and Bill Duke. The Expendables before The Expendables..
The PreExpendables 👍
The Expendables before they were expended
They were in their prime! Not old men
But sonny landham rip
Don’t forget Richard Chaves and Shane Black.
"He didn't disappear, he was SKINNED ALIVE!"
Seriously one of the _best_ scenes from this all time classic. Carl Weathers, especially..
Well it’s not know for certain if predictors victims were flayed whilst alive.
But yeah I love the acting where Carl Weathers gets teary and emotional
@@eeiko321 Arnie just turned up, he doesnt know whats going on. Hes just saying what he saw.
predator 2 says otherwise @@eeiko321
Apparently Weathers was cast because they needed someone who'd have the kind of physical presence and charisma to compete with Arnie. It was a great choice and you can see in this one scene how good he is - a much better actor than Schwarzenegger in my opinion. Totally convincing.
R.I.P Carl Weathers.

Dillon passes away today at 76 (Saturday 03 February 2024). Rest in Peace 🙏💕 Apollo Creed
Dillon knew it was a dire situation. He needed the big guns and knew Dutch’s team was most likely to complete the mission. Dutch says he dropped them into the meat grinder… but Dillon came along with them. Dillon was out to complete the mission by any means necessary. That’s honor. He knew how Dutch was and a cover story was needed.
One of the most badass conversations in movie history. Schwarzeneger and Weathers going toe to toe...and it doesn't dissapoint!
Carl Weathers and two future Governors in the same movie. Legendary!
I hate when people say Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't a good actor. Here he is acting serious and believable in this scene. Yes, I'm aware he has cheesy but awesome lines in this movie.
This could be a silly movie at times with the dialouge but it had the perfect balance of 80s cheese and serious horror at times.
John McTiernan knew how to make an awesome movie with an awesome cast.
I mean, this is clearly Arnie's best acting. He's perfect in this role.
@@tonypine3434 He's awesome in this movie. 👍
Arnold's movies have grossed approx $4billion dollars worldwide... he can act... he's a sh.t ton better than dwayne johnson that's for sure
Predator is one of Arnolds' best performances
My theory is Sylvester Stallone got the Expendables name from this scene.
Rambo 2 had a conversation about him being expendable too.
“You’re not expendable Rambo”
@@stonemcquark2805 My immediate thought was also Rambo 2 👍
Rambo 2 was 1985, Predator 87

Dutch takes a drag from his cigar and responds, "She's your baggage. You fall behind and you're on your own!" and leaves abruptly. End of conversation. Bad ass!
Love how Weathers starts tearing up a bit cuz beneath his words he knows he still betrayed his friend.
RIp😢
@@calvincameron354I know 😔Did not expect that would be the next thing I saw about him.
I thought it was from him hurting that he had to make Dutch realize the painful truth that to the higher-ups, they're all just "expendable" like his men were. I've seen this flick too many times to count and thanks to your comment, I just realized this is what Weathers was conveying in his performance.
@@Broyale26 to his own interpretation, but yeah, that’s what I always took from it cuz it seems to start right after Arnold’s line “you used to be someone I could trust.”
Rip ... Carl Weathers
RIP Carl! True Patriot!!
Back when real movies were made not with out of this world graphics, but with some very ingenious special effects, spectacular music, acting, and a solid story. When a movie this old is still fresh that’s when you know it’s a good movie.
Amen.
Yeah, if someone didn't look at the date the movie was released and the actors ages, etc this could easily pass for current events stuff ✨
But it was, predator was originally hmm jean claude van dam, but opted out and kareem came in towering over arnold, but a military general was watching and said I want that, referring to the camo the pred was using to bend light
CGI is cool… but I really miss the 80s n 90s special effects and makeup
@@josephmillar2370 Who doesn't? CGI is the lazy man's method of film making. Films like this a throwback to an era when people actually cared about putting in the work to make a great movie. Modern films are all forgettable.
RIP Carl Weathers. What a great scene between two action heroes!
You know, for as much as people have said that Arnie was just an action hero guy (and all of the sort of flat descriptions of that), he showed a bunch of really serious range in this movie. He played the jaded contemplative military guy so perfectly.
I agree! He was fit for the role and took it seriously, as he did in Terminator 1. It's akin to JCVD in Cyborg IMO.
Arni is an action hero. the actor of show business.
It helps Arnold was a veteran too!
@@dakotafodge8928 wait.. veteran of what?🤔 he absolved his yearly mandatory military service when he was 18 y.o. from 1965 till 1966.

Wow just read Dillon has passed on to the next life.! THANKS CARL FOR THE BAD ASSERY! RIP MY FRIEND
To this day I still laugh when I think back to the opening scene where Dutch tells the general “we are a RESCUE squad not assassins” Lol…….They just went and slaughtered the entire camp…..
Hence the fake story of saving Dillon's people behind enemy lines
As Leslie Nielsen would say in Dracula : 'They had it coming.'
Under the impression they were doing it to rescue a group of US soldiers...
The fact that Dutch was throwing out one-liners like "knock knock" and "stick around" makes me think he rather enjoys the old assassin work.

If those words from Dillon happened in real life, he would’ve ended up a casualty of “enemy fire.” Small teams are very tight. Slight one, especially the team leader, and you have slighted all of them.
True, but Dillon is a cia liason so whacking him out is out of the question, unless you want a mountain of problems with a major clandestine agency.
@@Highznberg
Mac was already wanting to kill Dillion because he was giving away their position too many times during their movement towards the
guerilla camp. They could have disappeared Dillion and made up any story why his body was left behind and that story would have stuck
since Dutch's team knew about Harper's team being lost. The CIA could have asked a lot of questions, but they already had lost a team
of Green Berets,so they really couldn't say much if Dutch reported the guerilla forces with Russian advisors, were a stronger threat then
the CIA had been been letting on.
@blkyank1 good point, and by the way, Rest in Paradise Mr. Carl Weathers, you will be missed, sir.

That must have been a hell of an experience. I’ve watched this movie as a kid but I watched it long after it came out and for me it’s in my top 10 movies of all time.
Yep, my big bro took me to the theater the weekend it dropped
Stan Winston was a genius.
To be fair, he had some help. He was on a plane, drawing up concept art sketches for the Predator, and his boss and good friend James Cameron was sitting next to him, and Iron Jim noticed the drawings and told Stan he always wanted to see an alien that had mandibles.
I find the scene (0:01-0:26) fascinating to see Jesse Ventura and Richard Chaves in one scene due to their military backgrounds (Chaves, US Army and Ventura, US Navy)
According to Ventura, he suggested to McTiernan that he and Chaves share a moment together on screen as the two real military vets in the cast.

It is interesting that Shcwarzenegger and Ventura became governors of CA and MN .
You fall behind and you are on your own, the worst thing a soldier can say to another soldier.
Dillon isn't a soldier. He is a CIA spook who used Dutch and his men to do his dirty work. So no wonder if Dutch is ok with leaving Dillon behind.
@@PikkabuuDillon used to be a soldier with Dutch, hence the remark about them getting Zippo lighters during Vietnam. He'd became out of touch since then.
Even when said soldier lied to you to get you to do something you wouldn’t? Coming from a longtime friend. When it comes to soldiers who trust one another with their lives, it becomes a betrayal that no words can convey. Your sense of right and wrong are screwed to say the least.

I love how Carl Weathers character isn't just some stooge guy wants revenge for what happened to his men
My favorite part of the movie is right after this when they're going through the valley from the time the Predator looks at the scorpion until Blaine and Mac are talking about how Vietnam looked like Kansas compared to this. The camera shots of them going through the jungle in stealth mode with the soundtrack blended in really well.

This movie is getting better by the minute
I mean at least Dillon went in with them. To be fair to him it didn't take much convincing for Dutch to go scorched earth on these boys. Him giving Dillon a hard time for a job he was all too happy to do. "We're a rescue team, not assassin's" and less than an hour later after thinking the mountain goons had killed Hopper and his team it was full-auto mode from that moment forward. They call it a meat grinder when they were the ones doing most of the grinding lol.
That's true. But Dutch only took the mission on Dillion's word that it was a rescue mission when his first instinct was to ask "Why not use the regular Army?"
Sure Dutch said his team was "a rescue team, not assassins" but he also knew the leader of the killed and multilated Green Beret team, Jim Harper,
and the manner of their death's made things personal for Dutch. It was implied that Dutch had served along with Harper in the Special Forces, just as he once served with Dillion in SF in Vietnam.
IMO, Predator is by far his best movie, even better than T2.
YOU SELL US OUT! That part puts me awesome.
i aint got time to bleed.........fucking epic!

The Predator was played by an American actor named Kevin Peter Hall (May 9, 1955 - April 10, 1991). Hall stood 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m) tall, and frequently played monster characters during his career. He was the original title character in the Predator franchise, appearing in the first 1987 film and its 1990 sequel.
