I wonder why are we still developing, producing and buying the SM-2 missile when the SM-6 which took over a lot of the missions from the SM-2 is incomparably more advanced and potent missile. It's a Jack of all trades cause it can hit air breathing targets like jets and cruise missiles. Next it can take down incoming ballistic missiles. And last but not the least SM-6 has an enormous anti ship capability. It's our only supersonic anti ship missile and as we talk it's being revamped with a new much larger warhead that will be capable of sinking destroyer and cruiser class ships. Also the SM-6 is getting a new rocket engine that uses the whole space inside the Mark 41 VLS tubes on board our ships. That means SM-6 is getting longer range and possibly approaching hypersonic speeds in its downward part of the flight. In one word - it's a beast. So why spend money on the SM-2, especially investing money into the R&D when you have a ground braking missile just 4 numbers higher... Sometimes I don't understand the US Navy. It would be wise to at least explain why it's done.

Mark Brisec cost, supposedly about $5m a copy and the SM-2 will still be capable against a lot of targets for another 20 years.

How many VLS tubes were shown on the FREMM model?

16x VLS, but the model shows the Italian ASW FREMM variant... The US Navy requirement for FFG(X) is now 32x VLS cells

Unlikely, it will probably be replaced by an extra ciws system or left free for a future weapon like a laser

Fincantieri are one of the oldest ship yards in the world, why are they a mistake?

Nice program but why the us navy wants to show to other nation why our ship could service hits. Like the stark , Cole etc to service. We should make our own ship not trust foreigner and trust our American fighting sailors to other country that hate us. Period jerks
