2024 Update: Two more Yasen class submarines have been commissioned into the Pacific Fleet for a total of 4 active in the Russian Navy.
As many astute and long time members have noticed, this was first published on Patreon in 2020-21(ish). This is just the setup for my next video discussing the Russian Navy visit to Havana Cuba this week. That video will be out later this week.

SubBreif another excellent presentation, I love that your channel exists. Objective OSINT analysis of submarine warfare is a difficult concept due to more limited information sharing than the other disciplines and less kinetic combat use, but having a sub veteran (yourself) and a professional presentation and demeanor is just a gem. I especially appreciate this further in the contemporary days of more and more people trying to do the whole "OSINT analysis" thing (I actually researched and published a video myself on a different channel, so I have a seat, albeit a small one, at the table), and I wish more channels would follow your no-click bait, professional, presentation.

@15:12- By performing a test-firing of a missile from the pier they demonstrated that their strategic weapons were viable, even though the platform was non-operational.
That's important for Russia, as they have a great deal of trouble getting their ships and boats out to sea and keeping them there for long periods of time.
The recent port-call to Cuba was simply Kabuki Theater that was more of a boon to COMSUBLANT than the Russian Navy...... Or the brothels in Havana..........

If a nuclear submarine gets torpedoed, does it leak out all kinds of nuclear fuel in the ocean? Or is the reactor protected and contained inside a hardened shell? I was wondering if it would be an environmental and ecological disaster if a nuclear sub got shot down?

    • @NorthForkFisherman
      @NorthForkFisherman 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Depends on the hit. The Kosmolets went down because of a fire. The reactor was SCRAMmed well before that and it's being heavily monitored by local fisheries folks. So far, not any serious problems. My guess? depending on the level of automation on the Red boat, taking a catastrophic hit would probably cause a SCRAM as well. But a dead-on hit on the reactor space might give you that "Red Storm Rising" Victor.

Is this a re-uploaded video? There's mention of delivery expected to be commissioned in 2020.
Also the Russian military was described as a formidable military. Seeing as how the black Sea fleet was destroyed by a country without a navy and the Russian ground forces are not looking so formidable right now either.

black sea is like a pool just like gulf of Mexico and if US had any ships there and fought Mexico the same fate would face US ships so stop behaving and reasoning like a baby, ukrainians aren't militias who US fights with, its an army with anti-ship capabilities

Yet, the old people in Congress are forcing the US Navy to shrink their budget, and the sizes of the fleet 295 to 285! The kicker is there telling the Navy you better make more ships with less money. to counter the growing threat of red China and the Russian.
P.S "I love your weekly Navy briefing"!

a submarine displacing in excess of 12,000 ton could do with a 10-cell VLS instead of just 4-cells . . . those water scoops must be having large in-built desalination filters . . . recommend a video on possible large displacement variants of the A26L class & Type 212 class of fast attack submarines . . . wonder what's powering the rescue pod, thrusting it upwards to sea level from 600 . . .

I like this, theres respect for the sub fleet of the Russians. All weve been hearing is nonsense about how useless the Russian navy is, when anyone who knows is aware they put their primary focus on submersibles. The Typhoon/Akula, the legend, could launch her ballistic missiles tied up in port if necessary. I think all the SSBN are capable of breaking through Arctic ice to fire off theirs too, God help us all should it come to that.

It would make sense to not deploy them even if they are capable of being operational and don't have any problems. Why allow your adversary to collect data on them for no reason and I'm not that sure the Russians have the same interest in having an actively deployed navy compared to the US?UK etc. By the very nature of Anglo countries we're way more focused on the sea lanes where as Russia is primarily a continental power. I would be interested in hearing any opinions on why they should deploy them more at great expense.

Russia can get them from China easily , Military chips do not need to be as advanced as the chip in your laptop or Iphone which is between 7nm to 3nm . military chips are much more heftier and frankly cruder between 120nm to 25nm and basically any country with basic knowledge of semiconductors and talented engineers can make a chip between 25nm to 15nm . Russia wont have any issues acquiring chips .

I wonder how quiet they are? The American Virginia class attack boats are incredibly stealthy? It would be also interesting to see how the Russian Yasen class submarine’s electronic suite stacks up against a comparable American boat? The Yasen class of submarine is probably inferior to its American counterparts because of the Russian inferiority in computer processing power, reactors, and stealthiness? When it comes to submarine warfare, even though the Chinese and Russians are in the process of catching up both technologically and operationally, the American submarine force is still undoubtedly the World’s most proficient when comes to submarine warfare?

Russian nuclear reactors are the best in the world and are significantly superior to anything the Americans have. Russia is a leader in nuclear energy. Automation of Russian submarines is at a higher level, the crew size is smaller.

The future X sub is going to remarkably look like a Yazen; the Russians are obviously onto something with their design. The future X though will be a superior boat with the American know how and can do.
