Oh man I completely relate to your thoughts on feeling emotional/overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes into drafting/revising and the toll that pursuing traditional publishing can take. While I think that the whole "writing is a compulsion" idea has its flaws, I do think that those of us who love writing love it in spite of our doubts, and questioning your ability to do an idea/creative project justice is not something that is unique to writing. I really admire the way you let yourself feel those feelings, and then keep writing anyway. And CONGRATULATIONS on finishing your draft!! It's so easy to get caught up in the amount of work ahead of you, but I think you have to celebrate every win, because there will ALWAYS be another milestone to conquer. I really enjoyed this vlog, and your videos always make me inspired to write! Looking forward to your breakdown of your drafting process for Project Night- it's been a journey! :)
WOW thank you so so much !! honestly I was on the fence about posting this vlog in its entirety because when I was editing it, I was like: "why am I like this?!" LOL. but this makes me so happy, thank you for watching :)) 💛
I've taken many long breaks from writing and always come back to it. Whether you publish and make a full living wage from writing or whether it's just a hobby, you're still a writer and completing a novel is a huge accomplishment.
I cry a lot writing scenes of my book. Happy scenes and sad scenes. I don't know why I'm just always emotional with this book. It's the first of a huge series. So, basically lots more crying ahead. 😂😂😂
Congratulations!!! I love how you shared how rereading your work, you had that moment of feeling like a good writer. I too, took 4 or 5 days, sometimes a week break from my novella because I felt I needed to step away for a moment. I knew I would get back to it, though. I hope to finish my draft this month. I'm glad you didn't shelf this book and you were able to complete this draft! That's great! I always enjoy watching your videos because they're calming. It's the ambiance, your voice, the colors, and the minimal music you use that makes it peaceful. P.S. I'm not a tea drinker either (or a coffee drinker) but what tea were you starting with to try to get into it?
omg thank you, that is so kind! best of luck finishing your draft this month !! 💛 I was drinking the teavana peach ginger tea! it was pretty good :D I also like mixing any peach flavoured tea with a peppermint tea!
I’m finishing up writing a book right now and I totally understand feeling emotional about leaving these characters and story behind 😭. I’ve caught myself working slowly because I don’t want the story to end! But this vlog really motivated me to finish it. So, thank you 🥰
I'm watching this video right now and feeling the same things you once were feeling. It is helping me a lot, THANKS! I will take your experience as my guide: even feeling it's not working, I keep going. I did read some of your excerpts on Twitter, and I'm WAITING IMPATIENTLY FOR THIS NOVEL ALREADY! Lots of love from Brazil!!!
This was authentic and I appreciate that so much. I could see myself in you as you’re sitting and writing, when you pause and take a moment because you’re overwhelmed, a 10000 times yes that happens to me so much, I thought I was alone haha. And I also tend to be inspired to incorporate aspects of my daily interactions into my story too! It’s actually fun and keeps me motivated and excited to work on a project. Congratulations at coming this far, many tried and gave up but you didn’t and now you have a whole novel!
You are so BRAVE to edit right after writing. I am a writer who just published my first novel and I get very viscerally tough on myself if I start to edit the first draft without giving myself an adequate break. But I am so proud of you for finishing your draft!!
I've only ever gotten teary eyed just a few times throughout my writing journey, but I truly hope I cry to my writing at SOME point. And congratulations by the way! That's such an incredible achievement, and it takes guts to draft something and make it something so special to you. :D
Watching this while knitting lol BUT just had to say that this vlog was so beautiful. ✨ It captured the emotions of writing and finishing a book. Captured something that I often find difficult to discuss out loud. Also, congratulations on finishing the 1st draft. ♥️✨
Congratulations!! I know that feeling, once I reach the end I either go right back to the beginning or I get in a slump... So glad I found you! one of my projects is also called Project Night xD
Hi Kris, first of all, congratulations (late ones) for finishing your draft. I know how it feels. What a sense of pride and accomplishment over those countless hours spent writing and sacrificed leisure times. I noticed something you mentionned and which is a very good sign, the fact that you were having fun reading what you wrote. I know we don't want to sound presumptuous or arrogant, so we have some kind of humility about our work, but every writers and publisher will say it, if you are bored by what you write, the reader will be, if you have fun, the reader will have fun. Good luck now for editing, I hate that phase, however it is a very interesting one. Take care
Im on chapter 5 of my ongoing project its been through development drafting for ages i feel like im getting to a place where I can move on and write other stories
Congratulations !!!!! I felt really happy when you finished writing and thanks for sharing your raw emotions :) I can’t see wait to see where this book takes you in your writing journey and also of the book’s journey itself. If you ever need a beta reader or a CP, let me know hehe I’d be honored to read your work (also I am STILL watching Arcane LOL I have like two episodes left and I reallyyy want to read Jade City)
Hi. I am new to your channel that I just stumbled on, and I can totally understand how you feel. Since I have been working on my main fantasy book for almost 19 years, with time, as I worked on it through the year's (not including 2015, 2016, 2017 I didn't have any passion for it.), and for the last two years (2020 and 2021), I learned from writing process on TH-cam. And I was busy rewriting my book again in the beginning of 2021, but my laptop crashed half way through that year. So I had to try writing Fanfic project of a werewolf story for Dreame app, hoping to grow my ... author part there, since I know that my main book still needs lots more TLC and rewriting version, which I need a laptop and not a Tablet. That I am using my tablet to write my werewolf story on it, until I figure out what happens next in my life and health problems (headaches and anxiety and stress). Also, when I write, I get in the zone... Until my hubby decides to bug me and BOOM, there goes the vide down. ATM, busy with my shifter characters, debating if they should have unique powers that blends in with any form they choose. Hope to learn more of a writing vibe from your channel. Thanks again.
I know you posted this a year ago and you have no idea who I am, but I'm so proud of you for finishing this draft! When in doubt type it out. Great job!
je le parlais mieux quand j’étais au lycée mais maintenant j’en ai oublié beaucoup😭 (parfois je regarde des émissions avec des sous titres français pour pratiquer ma compréhension)

@@KrisMF you're welcome. :) And cool. Thank you for sharing. I'm sadly not a big fan of peach, so I'll keep exploring.
