I love this. I love the comparison across different genres ☺️ I think it's important for us aspiring writers to study opening lines but to also understand these lines don't have to be wild or crazy. Just enough 😁 And definitely agree with you on all of this!
this reminded me of a workshop I once went to! There were three different thriller writers and they all gave something else. One of the workshops was writing a story with a couple of things that were on the screen. Obviously, the theme was thriller 🙈 I didn't know how to start at first, but then I started and it went really well! but the best part... one of the writers was sitting behind me and suddenly said that my first sentence was very good, because it made the reader wonder 'what's on the paper?' (the sentence went something like this: With shaking hands she read the note in her hand again.) I was super happy to hear that, and it stuck with me since. I ALWAYS think about it when writing a first sentence. (I already had a book from the author that complimented me, and ended up getting it signed)
