    When I was in Thailand in 1965 and 1966, I saw a lot of long tail river boats like these, but not as elaborate or powerful as the new ones. The chharm of the people, the flamboyant colors on every moving vehicle, whether it be buses, dump trucks, tuck-tucks, cars and boats, really demonstrates their love of life. Living with them was an experience I'll never forget. It would be hard to find a more beautiful culture anywhere. These TH-cam posts bring back very fond memories.

      I think as long as the prop is submerged and spinning at high rpm the whole rig kind of auto-balances itself. Additionally there's the drag produced by the water, it's dragging the prop shaft straight backwards against the direction of movement.

    • @xavierrodriguez2463
      @xavierrodriguez2463 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Marshall W well I mean if aircraft rudders didn't have good hydraulics they wouldn't be able to push out into the air stream and deflect the stream.
      Same concept here I guess. You don't need to have driven something to understand how physics might effect it.

    • @Bratfalken
      @Bratfalken 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xavierrodriguez2463 and aircrafts without hydraulics, and some with, have countermoving surfaces at one end that makes it easier to push the rudder into the wind. These guys I think counter the torque by placement of the axis and it's angle, and I think this has been done by trial and error over the years, finding some setting that is a good compromise for both low and highspeed manouverability.

    Did the long tail River boat the River KWAI in April, dude had a 350 Chevy smallblock in a single row seating boat the rear was the only part in the water, I was terrified, but did not show it, but my butt muscle were working overtime. It was exciting and terrifying all in one, I will never forget it. It was also, the hottest place I ever went to in my life. It was in April and I lost 6lbs in 12 hours of walking, boating , and train ride. No wonder they called it the Death Railway. Great content again, your channel is going to continue to blow up. ✌🏾

    I've seen one of those boats with a V-8, this is the first one I've seen with a nutso turbo-diesel...it was badass. I only wish you would have instrumented it...at least a GPS speedometer app on your phone. The engine is state of the art, everything else centuries old. I love the way you see the guy straining to battle the motor, trimming it up and down, shifting gears, and you could tell he was doing most of it by instinct. One slip on that highly polished wood in his socks and he'd be into the accessories spinning unprotected on the front of the motor. Now I just want to see a race between this guy and one of the gas V-8 versions.
