    the 2gd ftv in this truck is fully complaint to euro 6 emissions , so it will easily pass american emission tests. the other engine options like 2tr-fe were sold in usa for many years in toyota tacoma and 4runner . they won't sell it in america because americans can afford to pay 50k 80k 120k for a truck while much of thai population can only afford 10k 20k truck.

  • @JF-xq6fr
    @JF-xq6fr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Even if it cost $15k and met all US safety and emission standards, it would never sell here; dealers can't get you hooked for 84 months @ 9%, and it's not brodozer / 'influencer' cool. Very refreshing seeing this, as it reminds me more of how it used to be in the US - Pickups used as pickups, not vanity projection devices that used to be the cheapest new Toyota vehicle on the lot. I remember when a new Corolla cost more than a basic new Toyota truck.

    I believe it's actually a Thailand exclusive, they don't sell it anywhere else unfortunately.
    But they do know the Thai people customize everything they own, so it's the perfect country to sell a barebones Truck and let other shops/companys customize it to every customers specific needs. I'm sure there's a shop that makes you a nicer interior, build a camper addition, ambulance module or a small ramp truck for transporting a jetski, scooter or sidebyside, or build a rolling whirlpool to pickup ladyboys.

    In the '80s, the government introduced a new law that made it harder to import new cars from abroad. Furthermore, in the '60s, a tax called the Chicken Tax added a 25% tax to light-duty trucks, which the Hilux was. To get around these laws, Toyota started making cars in the US, as that would avoid those regulations.

    I love it. Absolutly cool. Beautiful concept. Would like to buy. But we don't get it here in Europe. Have to move to Thailand. You'll see them soon there with Bi-turbo (and more), I think.

    In the Philippines, they call this Toyota Hilux Tamaraw. Check them out.

    In Australia we get Hilux also made in Thailand, also with wheel on right, also 2WD, also with 2.4L diesel on workmate model. But almost twice the price ~US$24k without auto.

      Yeah, we still get slugged with taxes meant to protect the now non-existent car manufacturing industry.

    How much does the conversion cost?

    Soon to be launched (and be built) again here in the Philippines as 'Tamaraw' (name after a native small buffalo). This will definitely sell here very well with variants ranging from gas and diesel engines as well as m/t and a/t options. And no, no 6-wheeler variant.

    Awesome little truck. I am shopping for one now, but I don't want any of the massive things they sell over here. A 4 cylinder turbo Tacoma can cost about $75k. Not from me they won't. I will refurbish 20 year old Tacoma before I pay that price and still pay about a 1/3 of want the want for a new on. I want one the many small trucks I see in the Thai videos.

    LOL about the dog.
    The dogs down in Mexico are no different. Kind of dangerous at night, as i've come across a few sleeping on the road, on a bend.

    In Indonesia, the price of the Hilux Rangga hasn't been released until now, but the thing I don't like about the Hilux Rangga is the absence of a headrest

    That 2.4 (2GD) engine is already potent with 150hp, 343nm (mt) and 400nm (at), very enough and sufficient already for that chassis. What more if they install their 2.8 (1GD) with 200hp and 500nm! 😎

    I’ve never seen a Champ with an automatic transmission or adjustable steering wheel, I wonder if those were modified as well.

    Hey Chad. Love you work. Cool truck. The closest experience to a 6 wheeler. Dual rear is a single real spooled differential. A full locked diff. Not a true trac or Detroit. A spool. Cheers mate 🙏
