    Fender's promotional materials indicate these are year-specific, rather than decade-specific like the American Originals. The bass you're playing is a 1960 P-Bass, and they're also offering a 1954 P and a 1966 Jazz.

    Tried out a few P basses a few months ago and settled on a G&L Tribute (Indonesia). Was impressed by the 1950s Squier P, it was much better than the Mexican Fender Player P. Sire P5 also good but they didn’t do the colour I wanted (white). Anyway, question, on Bully’s bass is the pickup alnico?

    That bass should be "Bully Blue" because you probably use it on blues style gigs and recordings. I use them for almost everything slap, tap, groove. But sometimes I gotta get the 5 string out and let the world know who the boss is.

    Fun fact: they call that strap button on the back of the headstock a hootenanny button. I agree the 50% tone setting sounds best to me but be careful in a full band setting you may get lost in the mix. Better safe with the tone wide open on those situations. I wonder when Fender had the matching color headstocks? That had to be the 60s? I can see why they don't do that now when you can use the same neck for every color. Not a fan of the laquer glossy neck finish but it is good to hear it is not sticky. Can't go wrong with a good quality P-bass.

  • @YTPartyTonight
    @YTPartyTonight ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice bass. It seems the only differences between Fender Vintage II 1960 P and the prior Fender AO '60s P is some refresh of colors and change from a round lam board with a 9-1/2" R to a flat lam slab with old fashioned 7-1/4" R. Vintage purists tended to be bent out of shape over the slightly flatter fretboard radius while most players focused on the playing either don't care or prefer 9-1/2" R just a bit more. There are very small pros and cons to both depending play style and individual hands but the difference is minute. Nobody being real would pick up either and say one or the other is bad, or problem or unplayable, assuming the setups are done correct.
    Besides that, maybe they re-voiced the pickups, but I'm not even sure they did that. None of this is to say it isn't a very nice P bass, especially if you're someone who doesn't already have one or more P basses of this level.

    • @lebeaujp5594

      I have an AO60s jazz and been wanting an AO60s P for 3 years.
      I bought the AV2 1960 P yesterday. Love it. Feel is not the same, and pickups do not sound the same as the AO 60s. Sounds less “scooped” than the AO 60s , a little more high mids edge I would say.

      It was Leo Fender's idea to put it there. He figured that's where you'd rest your fingers and play with the thumb.
      Leo didn't actually play guitar or bass, so he made a guess on that.
      But since Leo stuck it there, it stayed there a long time. You see a bunch of originals that have it moved or removed by the owner.

    That bass looks great and sound absolutely amazing. However, having to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod just kills it for me. I understand the "period correct" thing that they are going for here but quick truss rod changes without having to remove the neck is one modern improvement I really appreciate and don't want to sacrifice on the altar of vintage-ness. Just my personal opinion. Your review, Bully, is great as usual. 👍

    To me, being able to play on a neck with 7.25 inch radius is simply golden.
