Always love my home town, misses it so much. Walked everywhere as a kid, or rode my bike. Miss the days before tourists found it. Thanks for convincing me to move back!
I’ve done it three×1 of the most amazing trips in the world. You can take one con that everyone should consider you need to be in good shape, physically not only to attempt the hike but to enjoy it.
I live in Waipahu and my wife and I go to Kailua about every other week. So beautiful! Traffic is tough during North Shore surfing season, otherwise Haleiwa visit for lunch and stroll is a must.
You drive through North Shore to get to Kailua? That must take you hours. Once, I had a girlfriend that lived in Waianae and I lived in Kaneohe. She had never been to Kaneohe before and I had never been to Waianae before we met. This was back in the 90s, and I think more people come to the Windward side more these days.
@movingtohawaii, my husband and I have been dreaming of moving to Hawaii after our wedding 2 years ago in Kona. It's been a dream of mine to live near the beach and watching your videos motivates me even more. Thanks for sharing all these informative videos. Keep them coming.
@@movingtohawaii I've definitely learned all about the neighborhoods. Just need to get that job. Good thing I have a background in healthcare administration as I hear Honolulu is a great place for those types of jobs.
Last summer our family stayed in an Airbnb in Kailua for six weeks. I definitely agree with you with the pros and cons. We met great people there but there were also others that acted like their s**t don’t stink, straight up racist, or ignorant. We were really fortunate that the Waimanalo community that was next town over welcomed us to their neighborhood and became part of their ohana.
I've live here in Kailua for around a year now and I love it. But to the last point there is a lot of entitlement I've seen here. And they will let you know if they have money in your own way. I didn't get that as much in Kaneohe.
Can you elaborate on that? Like what’s an example? Kailua is an amazing place and it’s important that viewers and comment readers know that we are digging into nuance and subtleties.
@@movingtohawaii Sure I can try my best to answer this, (and for the record I really love this area and have no plans moving from the east side of Oahu any time soon) but when your going around Kailua town you get a sense of wealth and a pride of where they live. So much so I've went to local restaurant and have been passed up by waiters (a few different times) to service more upscale locals that have made a name for them self's around the town. And they have that sense of entitlement when it happens. Now to be honest this could be because of me and "I don't get it yet living here" But with that said there is the flip side to that. Every Sunday I go to Morning Brew and I have the most amazing conversations with people that live here. So its odd in some ways and hard to explain in others. I guess the best way I can put it from my perspective that I feel like an outsider always looking in. But this could happen any where on the island? But I would totally buy a house here and live here for the rest of my life. lol Ok sorry for the really long post
Thanks for the interesting video. Appreciate the content! I spent a lot of the 90's in Kailua. My friends lived Maunawili, always rainy. Loved it, but still prefer Waikiki.
One thing I just found out, The property taxes are lot less than NY. My brother is in Foster Village, he has nothing to complain about. I grew up in Kailua when it was a one-traffic light town. Oh I remember the old days. Kuulei delicatessan. That Japanese family made the best stuff.
Surf is non existent, but it has great wind surfing! I went to Aikahi Elementary, Kailua Intermediate, mascot is the wind surfers, and Kalaheo. It was a great place to grow up!
Your video is very informative. I would love to move there and your video is very motivating but I'm not sure I have the right budget to do so. I know it's expensive to live there. We''ll see life is full of surprises. Thank you for your video.😀
i got a con lol. grew up there and a new neighbor from california tore down OUR hedges and trees on OUR LOT and built a huge brick wall that blocked all the tradewinds through the yard. built a huge house out of concrete and foam all the way up to the property line. 🤦♂the biggest con of kailua is that it's the #1 place (non-condo) that tourists from california move to. it's like 90+% white at this point, with less than half of them growing up there. if you want a similar life with less karens move closer to hawaii kai side, kaneohe or west of town.
I live in old Kailua, beachside house. It's one of the best locations on the island. There are some people who live there that are "entitled acting". It's a pretty looking place to live but I agree that some of the people there aren't big on Aloha, if you know what I mean lol
I've lived in Kailua for 40 years now and trust me, it's the BEST place on the planet to live. I'm not sure why in your video you compare Kailua to Ewa beach ????? It's like comparing day to night. Bob L
We just shot another Kailua video today. Be on the lookout. Also, I forget what comparison was made, but sometimes it’s important to show the stark contrast between day and night.
Thank you for your video. I live in Va and our weather is beautiful but when I travel south to North or South Carolina the weather is so humid my hair sticks together. How is the humidity for hair in Kailua?
I lived there previously, and it is a little bit of heaven, especially Lanikai.
visiting lanikai is great, living there can get a bit irritating depending on where you are lol
Thank you so very much for this video!
Love these videos! They are seriously so helpful.
Mahalo Marie. Let Mahe and I know if you or anyone you know has any home buying/selling needs ☺️
I also love the drive through Hawaii Kai

K-Town , Grew up there - my dad Kailua High 59- changed a lot 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾always home

I got a "con"! More "Karens" per capita on O'ahu than any other area on O'ahu 😁 Just my personal opinion from personal experience.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Rochelle said that not us 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

true. and it's gotten 10x worse since the target and whole foods...
VERY informative-thank you !
Used to live in Kaneohe. I used to like to go to Kailua Beach and walk to Castle point and back:-)

My dream is to live in Kailua or Kaneohe, loved the natural beauty and it's close enough to Honolulu for a change of scenery.
Enjoyed the energy! Sub🤙🏻
Thanks for the sub!

You said it! You’ll find all of the above in Kailua
Great information, as always, definitely informative.....😃😃😃
After visiting twice, we named our puppie Kailua. He turned 1 on May 4th
Are you talking about Kailua on O'ahu, or Kailua-Kona on the big island of Hawai'i?
Wow, this is soooooo helpful !!! Mahalo 🤙❤😎
Glad we could help. If you need more info relative to your needs feel free to reach out to us.

Why is there no light rail system on the island, everyone seems to drive.

Good times
Cons: nice restaurants (subjective), nightlife. Not they don’t exist, just limited options.

It happens. But yes some of those streets where you live are like their own little micro-communities.
How would you rate the weather?
