- Share my thought on the Truxedo Elevate FS Rack System and show the installation of the Thule Hull A Port Aero kayak rack on my Dodge Ram truck. Also, the advantage of using the Elevate FA Rack System with a hard top tunnel cover and how to properly tie down a kayak.

Thule is so convoluted with their products. For a Rack system, Lock Rack is the absolute best. Bolts to the Elevate system with ease, and it secures the yak. The Thule does not "lock' you yak up.
Strap the rear of the Kayaks to the front of your racks. This will keep them from sliding back and will prevent you from having to strap to your hood.
That what I started to do and it works great, thank you for comment.
Nice combo review of the elevate and thule jhooks! I'm looking to have a similar setup with my F150 later in the year, I'm curious to see if those hooks in the middle of the rails are a better mounting for the front/rear cables as you alluded to.
I just tried tying down the front and back by using the middle hooks, and it worked very well. I will try to send a picture.
Mine just came in today. I am wondering did the middle hooks come with the racks. If so, I did not receive them with the package.
Any chance there is enough room to fit 4 kayaks with these mounts on the elevate rack?
I don't have 4 kayaks to try, but I was able to fit 4 racks on the elevate rack with no problems. So I think you can fit 4 kayaks.
Hi, so did you drill some new holes in vertical columns at your desired height?
Hello, I did, and it worked great for my kayaks, but the newer racks come with 3 different levels of adjustments. A lot better.
Why didn’t they think about additional hole heights to begin with?
Did you already have the tonneau cover on truck before installing the Truxedo Elevate rack system?
Yes I did, I had to remove the tunnel cover and side rails, then install the Truxedo rails on top of the tunnel cover rails and clamp them together.
@@paquetteadventures4120is this the Ford branded tonneau cover? I have it on my F-250. Presumably I could do this setup.
What kind of Tonneau Cover are you using with it?
I have a Mopar hard top tunnel cover. I had it installed when I purchased my Ram Sport but I'm sure their other brands that can also fit just as well.
I have a 2018 tundra crewmax short bed do I buy the compact rails or full size?
If you go to realtruck.com and find elevate rack system, at the bottom of page under detail it will give you a chart where you can find the part number that will fit your truck. Hopefully this helps.
The taller the rack is the steeper the angle on the hood rope will be and rub less in the hood.
Thank you for the idea, however, instead of using the tie down on the hood I started using the tie down cleats on the rails, which work very well. Thanks for the comment.
@@paquetteadventures4120 you are welcome. How are you liking the elevate rack? Did you end up drilling holes to allow you to raise the rack just enough to open your cover. I'm thinking of the exact setup for my F150 that I have on order. It's more of an affordable option than a topper with roof rails and rack.
where can you buy the t bolts separately?
I'm pretty sure you can get them on Amazon or your local hardware store (Home Depot), just make sure of the size.
What cover do you have?
The hard top cover I have is Mopar.
What are the dimensions of your Kayaks? Width and Length?
Kayak 1- Length 14' and width 26"
Kayak 2- Length 12.5' and width 31"
No problem doing that to open the cover when is unloaded, but with your kayak on it ¡You are in trouble!
I did think of that, so my plan is to bring the tuck rack up 3 or 4 inch and drill new holes in the poles . That would give me the clearance I need. Or I can use the other holes already there, which is 9in higher, but I think that is a little too high. Thanks for your comment.
