    Sounds like the mini is choice for longs and the Maxon is handling the shorts in a much smoother loving way. Having two delays in your line up for shorts and longs is what I'd prefer anyhow. Both are great.

  • @genghis_aoe

    Love the feedback oscillations of these. I have an Ibanez DE-7 just because of this and does the same sort of thing perfectly.

  • @jkf9167
    @jkf9167 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I have the mini and it's a beautiful-sounding delay. The I have no trouble keeping the oscillations under control. And it's very forgiving due to its dark repeats. I also have the Ibanez Echo Shifter, which is large and impractical, but awesome-sounding and fun.

    • @themodularmodular
      @themodularmodular 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Josh Feierman which one do you like better, the mini or the ES?

    • @jkf9167
      @jkf9167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@themodularmodular I prefer the Echo Shifter because I think that delays should be large and have tap tempo. The ES also has really nice modulation. The (V1) Echo Shifter tap tempo resets each time you disengage the effect, though.
      Sonically, they both sound great. The mini sounds a bit prettier, the ES has as bit more definition, but I love both sounds, and they're fairly similar.

    Nice video Pete! I think if price isn’t a factor you need to decide what type of delay you’re after. The Maxon is lush and not very noticeable. The Ibanez is more pronounced and present. I like for my effects like compressor and delay to barely noticeable, yet if you turn the effect off you miss it. I like the Maxon better. But budget wise I like the Ibanez good enough.

    The Mini sounds (and looks) more like an AD-80 than a regular AD-9.
    I have/had both (vintage versions) and the AD-80 is quite sensitive and harsher when in self oscillation (you can ruin a speaker with that *ggg*); the AD-9 (which i kept) is much smoother.

    @lance134679 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Wow, all analog delays are not created equal. The Maxon definitely behaves better - it stays out of the way of the dry sound, all settings are usable and no runaway feedback. The dual function is nice, too.

      @mattgilbert7347 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have the Maxon AD-9 Pro. Genuine smooth analog delay. It blends superb, also before the preamp, and it's operating dead silent. I might be an expensive pedal, but for me it's a keeper. After ten years you forgot about the pricetag anyway. ;-)

      oscillations happen with any analog delay. besides it can be super fun

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reverb pedals can produce dangerous oscillation, as demonstrated by TC Electronic in one of their videos, though using a cab which handles lows more robustly (e.g. a [nearly] full-range cab) mitigates the danger. By the way, that word is “damping.”

    @robbinwolfe9553 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually I preferred the murkiness of the ibanez, I thought the maxon was too crisp for my style, though I think the maxon is an amazing pedal! I have the maxon 808 and I couldn't be happier with a screamer!

  • @Elyoslayer
    @Elyoslayer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well, the maxon has a nicer sound, and while size does play a role I would buy that one if the price was similar, but with a 130 pounds of difference it's an obvious no no.

  • @guillerob99
    @guillerob99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I prefer the Maxon because it doesn't have excess bass that takes away the definition of the guitar.

    you can hear the high pitched sound I refered in the previous comment superimposed to the delay repeats at 4:20 you can see how he inmediately drops the knob into useless oscilation. It´s a payd ad so..... Don´t get me wrong IF you want a good slap back echo that pedal is fine, but for Guimouresque delays from the first era when he used tape delay, you need to buy a better pedal. like the MXR or a good digital emulation like Boss I think every Boss Digital Delay pedal has an analogue emulation, It´s still digital but usefull, IE: in the MXR or the Boss DD7 you have tap tempo without an external control pedal. Hope this helps.

    There's something about maxon analogue delays, I don't know what it is. I tried out a couple, but then I tried the AD999, and after that everything else just sounded awful. I had to have it, despite being over 2x the price. Maybe I should have tried out a few more, an MXR carbon copy maybe, but I don't really regret it.

    I like Maxon. They made the original Ibanez pedals in the first place. Maxon is still kicking. I have the ROD81 which is the same as the BK butler circuit Ibanez tube king . great pedal I had an original Tube King in the 90s but someone I know stole it from me. The Maxon is the same pedal. Where as the newer red "American" version had to be changed due to patent infringements. The delay in this video is obviously superior sounding to the Ibanez. But if you prefer the endless delay time etc. Then I suppose its fine. Id truly prefer a Joyo to the Ibanez though.

  • @gerardoromano3436

    At max delay time, in the Ibanez mini delay you can hear tha high pitched sound of the clock, the same sound as if you take a Berigher and tweak the internal trimpot to obtain the same 600ms delay time. So It´s useless to buy the mini for the longer delay time beacause it´s fake, fot that reason you can´t find demos with the delay time knob at max in the mini Ibanez for more than half a secound, then they drop It. So if you want a really good analog delay up to 600ms you have to buy de MXR Carbon Copy (Can´t remember the exact model) that costs an arm and a leg....so I´ll stick to my Boss DD7 that has a great analog delay emulation up to 1.2 secs or more. That until peadals, guitar and amp market return to normal prices If it ever happens.

  • @paulsummerside
    @paulsummerside 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Found the little Ibanez a bit too muffled and dark. Never been a fan of mini pedals that don’t use batteries anyway. The Maxon does seem to do its best to copy the traditional old Ibanez look. Wasn’t overly blown away by the Maxon however, but it was certainly the better behaved and more useable of the two. Personally I wouldn’t have either I would have a Wem Copycat tape delay. However, since I no longer own one and can no longer afford to replace it, my search for a nice affordable analog delay will continue.

      The original Ibanez analog delay came out in the 70s or 80s and was made by Maxon for Ibanez. This pedal is a mini version of the original Ibanez pedal.
