  • Extra Care Housing allows people to live independently in their own homes, with the added benefit of flexible, on-site care and support.
This film - part of the Housing LIN's 'Spotlight on Extra Care' series - draws on the personal stories of Extra Care residents living with dementia, and their partners, including Shelagh Robinson, a passionate and eloquent speaker on dementia-related issues living at Housing & Care 21's Lea Court in Crewe.
We also hear from professionals and practitioners on the ways in which an Extra Care Housing setting can improve the quality of life of both people living with dementia and their carers, and can even help manage the condition.
Finally, the film explores strategies for maximising the potential of this type of housing in view of an increase in dementia diagnoses, and reminds us of the importance of respecting the individuality and autonomy of the person in any decision making.
Directed and produced by Chris Powell for the Housing LIN.

I have been working with independent senior living 5 years as a regional programs director, 8 years in social services/ case workers, and recently I was hired as a programs director in assisted living. I am so excited and I hope I can make a difference in the resident's life

A big need for more research in dementia/Alzheimers, so maybe a day, it would be possible to take medicine, to avoid it, and even cure it.
