Checki against toe nails! That is a great idea. My toe nails don't peel at all, so it makes sense that my peeling nails are more due to moisture. Wow. What a good idea!

Hi Anna, thanks so much for looking at my nails and offering your advice. I wanted to take the time to answer your questions and give you the missing information you asked about.
First, we I have tried to gently buff away the peeling edge so I wouldn’t have anything sticking off of the nail surface so you are 100% correct there and I won’t do that anymore. If I have a loose or rough piece of peeling nail I will clip it off now instead. I am on my third day of oiling every time I wash my hands. It has been a little difficult at work etc but I am certainly making an effort and my nails already look much less dry. On my first day I think I oiled 20+ times! I am carrying both oil and hand cream with me every day and I have put a bottle of oil and a cream at every sink in the house to make it quick and easy.
I had tried the dermanail in the past and didn’t have much luck. I felt like it almost dried my nails out more. I did pick up the Kerasal nail treatment yesterday and I’m starting to use it twice daily as instructed. I like that this formula does seem to be more moisturizing than the Dermanail.
I am a constant polish wearer (or was) and I loved to change my manicure twice weekly, so this will certainly be a challenge to stay free of polish. I will do it for the sake of healthy nails. So far some of the peeled area has grown so I have filed my nails shorter as they grow to get rid of the damaged area.
I have been iron deficient once in a while in the past so I will continue to take my vitamins and keep an eye on that.
My toe nails are fine- no peeling at all - they are however a bit dry and have some ridges. They are not bendy.
I left out that I am also a fine artist/painter, I sew and knit and make things constantly so I do use my hands a lot. I wash brushes, handle fabric and paper which I know will all dry my nails. I will really be diligent about this process because it’s important to me to have nice looking healthy nails.
I am hoping if I can commit to 8 weeks of ‘therapy’ and see improvement than you can give me a maintenance plan. Of course I’d like to be able to use nail polish again in the future too! I appreciate your care and advice! Sorry this reply is so lengthy.
    Kathy
Ps I was super excited to see my nails on the video! I knew they were my little ugly nubbies and I’m so grateful you are doing these ask Anna segments. I watch all of your videos.

Wow. Thank you SOOOO much. The info about comparing nails to toenails, buffing as a vicious cycle, and hand washing all is so great. I wash my hands soooooo much and since my son's leukemia, I use so many Clorox wipes and alcohol spray, etc. The biggest help was about not buffing and tp compare nails to toenails. Super healthy, and have been sooooo troubled that my nails are such a mess. Thanks again from my heart! Now to get started

My nails look like this, but do tend to be bendy. I just purchased the Mavala w the urea. Now to get in the habit of using it a few days a week. 😉 I have buffed splitting edge , so I need to stop doing that. Also, just ordered the glass nail file and cuticle pusher. My toe nails do not split and tend to be a bit stronger than my finger nails. Like you said, they’re not being exposed to constant washing of hands or sanitizer. Thank you for the video! 😍 I’ve been looking for this type of specific info and these have been great! 🤗🤗❤️

It's exactly the same with me. Very thin, bendy nails, that peel very easily, and that worsens when I'm anemic. Plus, my nails do not admit regular nail paint. The paint peels with the next shower, if it hasn't started chipping the same day. I have given up painting them, even more growing them, and only grow them and paint them for very important family occasions.

This is my exact problem as I approach menopause (although my nails never used to do this but have tended to be dry). I do have some issues with my toenails as well, not nearly as bad though. I've always worn gloves when cleaning or doing dishes because I have sensitive skin. I use CeraVe without fail every time I wash my hands since it was invented. I oil my nails when they are bare, but I almost always wear polish. I guess I could stop wearing polish and do more oil, but that would be kind of a bummer! And besides, my nails would get exposed to more water that way. I do think that my hands are not only exposed to more water and polish than my toes, but also, you just do so much more with your hands, so much more wear and tear.
I must admit that I have been guilty of removing the peels and buffing, although I know this is terrible. In the past, if I had a random peel occasionally, doing that seemed fine. But now, I have new peels every time I remove polish. For a couple months I never used clippers, only the glass file, never peeled off the peels or buffed. But I had the same result. Maybe it really is the polish, which is horrible, because I have a huge collection of indie and boutique polish I love.
I've started using Dermanail on my hands but after watching your other video, I really need to get the IBX.

My fingernails were like this whenever I wore nail polish, even the “natural” brands.
    I stopped wearing polish.
I am a nurse, and washed my hands literally 50+ times a day, with strong antibacterial soap. Once I stopped using the polish, the nails gradually grew in without peeling.
I now try to use Castile soap whenever I can, as THAT makes a big difference to the SKIN on my hands.
I do use a smoothing file. Then I use “Winning Nails” Buffing Crème and a chamois nail buffer. They’ve never been better.

My Doctor told me that the last place the vitamins and minerals go to are the Hair and Nails. So if the fingers and toe nails are showing signs of problems it means that something else is going on in the body. The over all health has an affect. So… on top of using good quality products that you’ve suggested, a good diet and water intake will help.
Be careful using nail hardeners for to long a period of time. They will start to do the opposite of their intentions. When Nailtiques first came out they suggested a use for 6 weeks on 6 weeks off.

I have been having this problem with my nails for over 6 months now, so I'm starting to worry. I was trying to make my nails stronger to try growing them longer, and I saw something called Nail Aid with Biotin. Only a few bucks at Walmart, but it had great reviews. I was stoked! 10 days of wearing that (I now realize that was my bad for wearing it that long, I don't believe that's it's intended use) my nails started peeling like this! I've NEVER had this happen before. I immediately threw that away, thinking I'd have my nice nails back in a month. But every time I think it's over, they peel again! I don't ever buff it out because I know that can just make things worse. I came to the conclusion that I'd have this problem for about 6 months until the whole nail grew out. But now it's been 7 months and it's still continuing. I oil my fingers multiple times a day, and I haven't ever had this issue before. Dry, brittle, even splitting nails- yes. But the top layer peeling off? Never.
    Help! 😭

I suffer from something similar. And while I appreciate all the advice and am somewhat interested in the products mentioned I just don’t think this is helpful for people that like to polish the nails. If using the products requires bare nails for about 8 weeks to start seeing progress in the look of your nails, then wouldn’t stopping the treatment after that and use nail polish would just make the nails go back to their original state? Maybe my thought process is wrong though, but as someone that would like to get rid of peeling long term for nail polishing purposes I just don’t see how the products would help unfortunately.

I have Hashimotos so I get some peeling but certain nails more prone. I paint usually twice a week and hardly go bare so I contribute to that. I due wear a nourishing base coat and hydrate like crazy jojoba oils by shop nbm. I did have my labs checked 2021 such as iron, b-12, vitamin d heard those can cause peeling too. Overall my nails pretty healthy minus few peels. I never seem to not have them hence why never go bare at work. I work medical so need something on my nails to protect them water exposure. I do wash my hands too often and get dermatitis and flaking/dry hands (might be root cause to peeling nails) who knows. Will start your recommendations and update you in the near future! P.S. Should I be avoiding nail varnish for a while?

Hi Rachel! My iron is also very low and it has been for a while and I don't have issues with my nails. How are the nails on your toes?
Usually nail issues are related to improper care or harsh manicure treatments and nail surface damage. When that is corrected most issues go away.
Continue with proper care for about 3-6 months (it takes this long for the healthy nail to reach the tip of the finger)
If they continue being weak I would look into general health, protein intake, thyroid, hormones etc then I would look into biotin. In that order. :) Hope this helps.

I know everyone is different but I have purchased so many products to help improve the condition of my nails that I would like to minimize future purchases. I have CND Rescue Rxx, my daughter is a licensed cosmetologist has ibx and said she will apply it for me...I'm not a fan of oil but like nail creams like 'hard as hoof'.

Hi Anna: I've been using Kerasal nail repair - and ointment, with great results. I haven't put any polish on my nails yet, but if I do, do you still use the Kerasal nail repair when you are wearing polish - or is that useless? Would you just put a drop on the cuticle area? Just wondering. Thanks so much for these videos. My nails are improving after 2 weeks!! :) I have hypothyroidism and it's really been rough on my fingernails. Your advice really helps!

When I use hand cream regularly and frequently (after hand washing throughout the day and before bed) I sometimes get some little bumps on my finger. Is it because of excessive use?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hm. Not sure. That would not be a sign of excessive use and rather some type of irritation? You might be reacting to some of the ingredients?

Some of my nails (mainly index, middle finger and thumbs) have peeled for as long as I can remember. Sometimes the tip, occasionally almost half way down the nail! I rarely wear nail colour these days as it seems to make it worse. I've tried all the big brands products that should help but the problem still exists. As a last resort I had a Japanese manicure a couple of months ago and I really cannot believe the difference. I could still see the damaged area but the nail layer did not lift. Obviously I have had to carefully file the free edges almost on a daily basis but the damaged part is virtually gone. I have just had a second treatment and am looking at beautiful pink, shiny healthy looking nails. Short, which is how I prefer them, but I'm very happy. I am a colour fanatic and probably have close to 100 bottles of varnish but I'm now afraid to use it on my fingers. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the Japanese manicure. Is it a short term fix, or should I continue? I really don't want to undo any benefit I've had from it.

My nails are peeling like your clients. I am in the swimming pool three times a week for exercise. I have been applying nail polish to cover the nail. However, in this video you recommended against polishing. What should I do to protect from swimming pool water? Thank you.

    • @rezzy8590

From what I know, Anna isn't actually 100% against nail polish application in this situation. So, if you have peeling nails and you polish them, it can chip and flake easier because the polish is anchoring to a nail layer or multiple that have already lost their anchor to the rest of the nail. Because of this, the nail isn't really being protected, at least on the parts that are peeling. But the rest of the nail is, so I'd suggest keep polishing to protect and apply a really hydrating cream and oil right after you swim. I have peeling nails too, so that's my level of knowledge comes from. Also, make sure you're polishing the tips of your nails!

Hi again Anna :-) I wonder if it`s worth buying CND Rescue RXx for damage nails or can I use my lovely blend with jojobaoil and avocado-olie with as good result? I have ridgy nails and when I use polish and take it off, there is like small bobles in the nail they spilt and are very dry. Thank you and lots of greetings from DK/Jane

    • @TheSalonLife

Hi Jane! Rescue RXx is helpful for surface damage. The white spots are usually a surface damage. Jojoba definitely helps (soaks are great) but Rescue RXx works differently and it can help as well.

Nail plate or the skin around the nails? For what purpose? I prefer lactic acid (more gentle) or salicylic acid. This is why I recommend using Kerasal often on this channel.
It is for the skin around the nails, not the nails.

I’ve started to use oil often for my peeling nails. I’ve done this for two weeks but they are still peeling, will it take longer because they need to grow out first?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  ปีที่แล้ว

The oil will not glue the existing peeling. The new growth will be more protected. There could be many reasons why they are peeing. Are they damaged? Are they brittle? Too bendy? If you are interested please check out a service I provide
      www.thesalonlife.ca/services

    • @milquetoes

@@TheSalonLife I wash my hands quite a bit, but I always apply oil now. I don’t think they are soft because they don’t bend, but they are thin, my toenails are fine. I’ve cut my nails short but they keep growing forward peeling it seems. And so I was wondering if I need to wait for the nail at the bottom of the nail bed to come up because it will be stronger? Thank you for taking the time to respond:)

Unpolished nails. They won't penetrate through nail polish.
