Landrover Discovery 3 LR3 head unit fault - vehicle fault system shutting down Solved

The head unit (stereo) on our Land Rover Discovery 3 has never been able to receive any radio stations since we owned it, and lately it developed a fault whereby it randomly powered on and off the head unit and the 4x4 info screen, also the clock on the dash disappeared.
Fault on screen showed: "Vehicle fault system shutting down"

Hi I just wanted to give you an update. I purchased a head unit off eBay & had it fitted today by an auto electrician, it took him a while to get the old unit out & he ended up dismantling the centre console but the result was the new/secondhand unit works perfectly.
I want to thank you for uploading your video as I had been stumped for quite a while as to the problem & when I googled it it made it seem like I needed a new instrument cluster at a cost of over £2000,

I have exactly the same fault on a Range Rover sport 2006 the both the nav screen & the radio cd unit comes on then the ”vehicle fault system shutting down” message appears then the radio/cd switches off then the sat nav goes off & then it starts back up constantly repeating shutting down after 10 seconds is that what you had?can you confirm you just changed the unit not any cables?

Hi,
I confirm I replaced the head unit and that resolved the issue. I have already in the past checked the cables on the rear of the unit and they were all ok. Get a unit of ebay and swap it out.

Hello i hope you still comments. My lrd3 woulnd not start and 4x4 screen and sterio would turn off and it would say hdc problem. First i got a new battery but still the same problem

Hi, you will need to get the codes read i'm afraid.

Mine lr3 2006 is doing the same but the message doesn’t appear it just comes on and off by itself

sounds like it's the head unit. Do you lose the clock on the dash (+my2007 firmware)?@@NeilTappenden

But I will have another look the weekend thanks 🙏
I will probably chance it and buy a second hand head unit off eBay
