I think the "Sisu" makers made a mistake using that old font, because everyone not familiar with it think it is called "Gifu"! What the fuck is gifu! It should be clear from the first sight that it is Sisu, which is a famous Finnish word! I would have fired the person responsible for using that stupid old font.

    • @PanfuSerenity
      @PanfuSerenity 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@pev_ It should maybe be changed, but they started making Sisus back in like, the 1930s? And seeing as my grandmother (born 1938) can read Fraktur perfectly fine, it was likely far more widely used font back then.

Halko means log; hence the birch tree markings on the can :D And who knows, maybe Haruko would like to try out your 'halko' after, like you said, one has tested what she tastes like ;)

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Fun fact, the Olvi's "Halko" translates to tree billet and the print design on the can is taken from birch tree. Birch tree is used as a firewood in Finland (like logs, billets etc) and the can design was inspired by finnish forest. You can google the birch tree images and see the similaraties off the tree's bark in the can.

Pea soup. Eat it at least twice a month. :)
Pea soup with pork (Ärtsoppa) is an old Scandinavian dish. Pea soup is a relatively common dish, especially in the military and schools. In Sweden, the consumption of pea soup has been coated at least since the 13th century. Pea soup soup belonged to the author August Strindberg's absolute favorite dishes. "Godfather" he called it.
The fact that "peas with pork" has become a Thursday meal in Sweden probably depends on the fact that Friday during Catholic Middle Ages was a fasting day and that such a day used to be preceded by an ever-festive meal. Boiled, salty pork was a base in the medieval cuisine and the peas were a festive alternative to cabbage and rowan as usual, it was usual for the pork. Traditionally, sometimes hot punsch (alcohol) is sometimes served to pea soup. There is no documented explanation for it, but probably the condition of the 17th century official fairs, where the punschen was said to reduce the inherited weather stresses. This tradition was occupied by national romantic students in the 19th century nationalism where the punsch was consumed freshly. The dessert of pea soup is traditionally some kind of pancake with jam. There are different variants around the world

    • @mikkolappalainen_

Hernekeitto or Ärtsoppa or Pea soup is common tradition in Nordic countries actually I think. Its served mostly in thursdays in Finland, but also Sweden and elsewhere too as you said. Also the pancake is always desseert. In Finnish army, every thursday is Hernekeitto. Almost the same is true in schools. And even in many commercial kitchens have it in thursday (those home lunch type kitchens). I think its really good and also I think it has become very modern choise again, not just tradition, in terms of all kindz of veganism that we have going on.

Few fun facts about Fazer's Da Capo:
It's an old classic from the year 1916. Actually they made it by "recycling" liqueur fondants which they found been made incorrectly during the quality control. They melt them again and pour some Rhum Martinique and mixed them together. In a way they started from the beginning. Hence the name "Da Capo" which is Italian musical term and means "from the beginning"
And firstly they sold Da Capo as a fondant but from the 1949 it's been sold also as a chocolate bar. :)

Sometimes I eat that peasoup straight out of the can or put it on rye bread with mustard but in the name of Jeebus does it make your stomach go boom boom (at least for me). Some people also put raw onion, tabasco and hard rye bread (crisp bread?) in the soup to make it more filling. Many workplaces and schools offer peasoup every thursday.

TabiEats Yes! They are dried peas which are split in half. They are used to make soup, like the soup you just ate for this video. They are very easy to use. Unlike dried beans, they do not need to be soaked before cooking, so making split pea soup is easier and does not take as long. If they do not have split peas there, I could send some to you. :-)

We have that peasoup in Sweden as well it usually has salted pork in it, and on the can it said "smoked meat peasoup" ;) According to the older generations you're supposed to have Peasoup with mustars and then Pancakes, on thursdays. I think it started that way in the army or something hehe.

Oahu might get hit pretty hard. They already started cancelling school on the Big Island and will probably close schools on Oahu on Thursday. Pray for us.

That’s interesting about the pea soup. My daughter would not eat canned pea soup, only my homemade pea soup. I tried to give her canned soup once when she was about 6 years old and she said that it tasted wrong. I didn’t tell her that it was canned before she ate it.

Lovely that you picked up the soup and the mustard - I often hear hatred towards those. Maybe that's because peasoup is eaten since childhood (almost every week at school). And ketchup seems much popular than mustard, maybe mustard is too spicy? :) My tip is: if you are making a pizza, mix some mustard on the tomato sauce! Yummy ^-^

It's actually not Gifu, but Sisu, what means guts in Finnish. It looks like G but its old Finnish typing from like 100 years ago. And now i see it's ofc said earlier in older comments..
