      There is one if you check all of the players. I don't think its clothing dye though and if it is you need lots of salt to hold in the colour

      Hi Robert,
      I have attached some links to videos I have on dyeing feathers which you make like to see. I also dye hair very much the same way though you have to be a little more patient with it as it takes a little longer for the hair to take the dye...I hope this is of some help to you...

    Wonder if you have any insight into a fly called the Thompson Terror? I was acquainted many years ago with an old boy who fished Cumbria and Border streams for sea trout. He wanted what he called a Willow Pool Terror. He described it as a Greenwell’s spider, except the primrose silk was to criss-cross a silver under-body, and no rib. Trouble was, I could never get the body to his satisfaction. Too much silver showing. I lost touch with him and I’ve always wondered what he was really after. I’ve actually tried tying it with touching turns of the silk (Pearsall’s gossamer). Strangely enough the silver still shines through.

      Hi Callum,
      I have heard of this fly though I have never tyed it but I have tyed a standard Greenwells many a time for friends as it's one of their best flies for seatrout..There is dressing on the internet but as you may know it's not easy to find the original due to this though I will have look through my books to see if I can find it...If I was using the pearsall's silk as a rib then I would wax it well as this would help to strengthen and keep it form slipping..
      All the very best Davie

    • @callumclark3358
      @callumclark3358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavieMcPhail Thanks, it's a slightly elusive fly, though essentially very simple. Greenwell's spider probably just as good, but if you're very fussy I guess it affects your confidence.

    I find it hard to turn away from your videos. I learn something every time I watch you. I have a question, what kind of scissors do you use?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony,
      I like to use a 4 inch razor scissor and there's many companies that sell them. I'm using the Fulling Mill version which is of good quality and hold their edge really well, I've also used others which even came off ebay that I was happy with as well but are not just as well made..I have attached some links for you to see as well as a pair of curved that I like especially for small flies..

      Hi Colin,
      They are excellent quality and are razor sharp so I have been very happy with them, the pair I'm using at the moment have lasted me so far for six months and they are still sharp.. I do tye a lot of flies and I also use other scissors as well..I'm glad you liked the fly..

    Is that a attractor pattern or is it meant to represent a real insect? I don't think we have them in eastern Canada!

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dominique LeBlanc,
      This fly would fish well for large midge as well as the Hawthorn which is a terrestrial fly that appears in May when the hawthorn bushes flower as this is why it gets it's name...They are quite a large fly and can easily get blown onto the water so the fish can go crazy for them..It's also a good style so if you have anything similar but is a different colour I'm sure it would work for you..
      All the very best Davie
