Hey doc question about these types of cases. Unless you're planning to restore these teeth for aesthetics, I've never really understood the value of just creating more OB/OJ on its own. Because unless they wear retainers, won't the teeth just erupt and wear again? And if the retainer is the key thing, why can't we just have them wear retainers/nightguard rather than doing ortho? Thanks
Great question! The answer gets a bit convoluted and has more to do with the envelope of function than OB/OJ. Although very much related. Ideally, in the case of non-restoring, we aim to couple the teeth, increase overjet, and shallow anterior guidance, all while honoring the envelope of function.
