Thank you for posting this. I'll be doing our 1st oil change this week. You saved me the headache of getting under the Santa FE and searching for the oil filter.
Outstanding video - very informative. My wife purchased a 2016 Santa Fe LWB with the V6 this summer, and I'm persnickety about changing the oil myself. Thank you for posting this!
thanks, this was correct, saw several 'sports' with the metallic filters ... not right. Yours was spot on! 2015 limited with 3.3. Thanks for the filter cap size socket too!
Hi! Great video. Very helpful! Quick question…..So my 2017 has the plastic panel underneath with those annoying plastic caps to secure it on. 🙄 Do I need to fully remove the guard to access the drain plug?
I have done a few hundred oil changes in my time, but after trying to squeeze under this rig for about ten minutes and not finding anything, decided to youtube it. Didn't expect to find it at the top. Great video, well explained, good presentation.....will be a piece of cake now. What oil did you replace with. I think Hyundai holds hands with quaker state if I'm not mistaken. Thank you very much for your instruction!!
You are welcome boys. I use 5W30 Pennzoil. This '13 model does not require synthetic engine oil but you can if you prefer to. Take care and thanks for your comment.
Brilliant, thanks. Never had a car with an oil filter that wasn't located *under* the car. Would have never found it if it weren't for this video. (the manual that came with the car predictably gives no illustration or instructions and instead says "Visit an authorized Hyundai to have your oil changed.")
Oil Plug Torque Spec: Thanks for the info. It looks as if there's enough room to do the change with no ramps or jack as I was able to lie on ground and reach the oil plug underneath. Is there a Torque spec on the oil plug that you know of?
Nice video - thanks for sharing! The only question is about the oil drain plug diameter - you're saying it is 17 mm ID, while if you search the Fumoto valves or just a regular plug from Advanced Auto, both will say that the diameter is 14 mm. I think this is indeed 14 mm. I'm ready to go on with my own oil change as well - recommending Fumoto valves to everyone who does it!
Hey cruxdei, he said it was a "17 mm", meaning that the head is 17mm. Also you are correct, the actual bolt diameter is 14mm. You are both correct in what you are saying, you just misunderstood what he said!
Depends where you live and the climate, here it's 5W30. Good luck with your new car and enjoy it. If the car you bought is AWD and the rear end has a popping/clunk sound when you turn left or right, shoot me a message.
Thanks tons for the vid man! I honestly would have been looking for your traditional oil filter had I not come across your video! Great vid, simple to understand and to the point! Greatly appreciated! Would you see any issues with using a full-syn oil or should I keep it standard? Thanks!
Your welcome Thomas. Glad the video was helpful to you. I personally always use the oil that manufacture specs. In this case 5W-30 mineral. If the oil is changed at the 4,000 mile mark things will be fine. I prefer Pennzoil. Take it easy........
The safe jacking points on this model are a little bit tricky. I am extremely busy the next few weeks but if I get a chance I would film it. Thanks for the suggestion Robert, I will keep it in mind.
Sometimes engineering to locate other powertrain components to make room below so the mount the filter on top. Sometimes just easy access. There is no filtering benefit over the canister screw on type. Great question!
Nice vid but is there enough room for the oil to pour out without splashing to the other parts? Looks like it was "purposely" designed to have the consumer bring it to the dealership to have it done (get it on the jack & drain more vertically)
Glad the video helped you out Earl. When the Santa Fe needs work i'll try and film it. Check out my '13 Santa Fe oil change vid if u havent yet..take it easy
I could not get the oil filter nipple to seat. Looked at old filter and nipple broke off and was still in hole. Used long nose pliers to remove. I poured oil inside filter and filled before replacing cover.
dumb question, do you change filter first or drain oil first? Does anyone else have issue with oil consumption by the engine. I have read GDM motors eat oil.
Hello ozzstar, i was wondering if you would know if the 2013 and 2014, oil filter location, filter model etc. are the same on the 3.3L 6 cylinder engine? Thanks
Yes on the 3.3L the PCV is located in the back end of the rear valve cover. The throttle body would need to be removed to gain access to it. The PCV valve has a short piece of round foam sleeve over it. I bet you can find it now. 👍
Hi, I live in Chile and own the same car with the 3.3L engine (mine is made in South Korea, not USDM). Do you think it uses the same oil filter as yours? Thanks
Robert W you can also look left and right but Robert you still wont find the power steering reservoir.....because there is none. This model has ELECTRIC steering......quickly the days of hydraulics are fading away. Take it easy - Ozz

Very well described video.
No fluff, no music, detailed tool list. Short n sweet.
Thank you.
Best repair video I think I’ve ever watched.
Thanks Keith, I appreciate the compliment! -Glen (Ozz)
First vehicle I've owned with an oil filter cartridge, great video, straight foward, made my oil change much easier
Glad the video was helpful to you and I appreciate your comment. Take it easy

Awesome sauce, Ozzstar! Now I can show off to my wife after the regular scheduled maintenance from the dealership is over :)
haha now you can be a hero! Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching
Wow. I would have looked for days for that filter. Never seen one on top before. Thanks.
Your welcome Greg. Many auto manufacturers are now going to cartridge type oil filters mounted toward the top of the engine.
Thanks for getting right to the point, much appreciated, great video. Thank you.
You got it Kevin, thanks for stopping by the channel. -Glen
Thank you for making this video. Just saved me $100 on a full synthetic job!
Nice! I appreciate your comment.

Thanks for the comment Jon. Now you can change the oil on your wifes new car and be a hero to her! haha Take it easy -Ozz

Simple clear and not a super long video, thanks.
You are welcome and thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment
Hi! Great video. Very helpful! Quick question…..So my 2017 has the plastic panel underneath with those annoying plastic caps to secure it on. 🙄 Do I need to fully remove the guard to access the drain plug?
Not on this model.
Is that the SE?

Excellent video. Straight forward, clear, easy to follow and understand. Thanks!!
I appreciate your comment stoney!
Good job ! Recently bought a 2018 Santa Fe. Was wondering how messy the filter replacement might get.

I wonder if I'm Hyundai authorized? haha Thanks for your comment, glad the video helped you out.
Oz...thanks for the info on location of PCV! I never would of found it!!
Glad to help
Appreciate the info you shared, save me lots of time and effort looking.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Maddog. Glad the vid helped you out -Ozz
Great vid, thanks for sharing! 👍
You got it Clayman!
Thanx for the info, may i ask what is service in sign of the dashboard screen.?
I don't understand your question. What are you asking
Good instruction and demonstration, it works for my 2014 Santa Fe. Thanks and I clicked LIKE IT!
Thank you Eduardo
Great video. I am wondering did you have enough clearance to drain the oil. Or you jacked up the car.
Thanks ozzstar. I was gonna waist a few hours of my life to have
Friggin youtubers killed the Chilton guid lol
It's what I do but better.
Oil Plug Torque Spec: Thanks for the info. It looks as if there's enough room to do the change with no ramps or jack as I was able to lie on ground and reach the oil plug underneath. Is there a Torque spec on the oil plug that you know of?
I'd say about 1 1/2 ugga duggas. 25-30 ft lbs according to specs should be good.
Nice video - thanks for sharing! The only question is about the oil drain plug diameter - you're saying it is 17 mm ID, while if you search the Fumoto valves or just a regular plug from Advanced Auto, both will say that the diameter is 14 mm. I think this is indeed 14 mm.

Excellent video appreciate.
Thanks for the video!! So easy to do!!!
You're welcome Erik!
Nice video. Thank you. Just purchased a 2013 today so now i know where filter is. I didnt look on oil cap but what oil weight is recommended?
Depends where you live and the climate, here it's 5W30. Good luck with your new car and enjoy it. If the car you bought is AWD and the rear end has a popping/clunk sound when you turn left or right, shoot me a message.
Thanks...I was going nuts trying to find the filter underneath ..WTF
Are we going back in time with filter technology ..
Easy access once you know where it's located.
Glad the video was helpful to you
In order to access the drain plug, did you have to remove a skid plate or cover panel? Thanks! Excellent video
No I didn't or I would have shown it. No half ass repair vids on this channel. 😃👍
Thanks tons for the vid man! I honestly would have been looking for your traditional oil filter had I not come across your video! Great vid, simple to understand and to the point! Greatly appreciated!

Sir, can you point out the exact locations on a Santa Fe Limited (2013) where it is safe to jack up the car?? Jacking point locations? Thank you!!
The safe jacking points on this model are a little bit tricky. I am extremely busy the next few weeks but if I get a chance I would film it. Thanks for the suggestion Robert, I will keep it in mind.
Very helpful
Glad the video helped you out!
Dose your burn oil? I have the same model and it burns a qt per 1,500 miles.
Not really. Maybe a half quart in 4k miles.
Any Idea why they went with this style instead of the status quo spin on oil canister type?
Sometimes engineering to locate other powertrain components to make room below so the mount the filter on top. Sometimes just easy access. There is no filtering benefit over the canister screw on type. Great question!
Thank you for this.
your welcome Rob. thanks for the comment

🍺 an IPA or vodka sour sounds good to me.
Nice vid but is there enough room for the oil to pour out without splashing to the other parts? Looks like it was "purposely" designed to have the consumer bring it to the dealership to have it done (get it on the jack & drain more vertically)
+og229 this is one of the simplest oil changes you can do on a car. Well designed and easy access
Excellent Video. Post more "how to do" videos on the 2013+ Sante Fe long version. You saved me a few $$$$. Thanks. Earl K.

You're welcome
I could not get the oil filter nipple to seat. Looked at old filter and nipple broke off and was still in hole. Used long nose pliers to remove. I poured oil inside filter and filled before replacing cover.
The o-ring on the filter nipple was probably never lubed before it was installed, so it got stuck.
dumb question, do you change filter first or drain oil first? Does anyone else have issue with oil consumption by the engine. I have read GDM motors eat oil.
It does not matter in this case if the filter is changed or oil is drained first.
@@ozzstars_cars thank you!
Sir,
On the oil filter cap torque you stated it is 35 NM. Is that the SAME as Ft/Lbs.??
Yes Nm......35 Nm= 25.8 Ft/lbs. Hope that helps ya out, thanks for watching
Hello ozzstar, i was wondering if you would know if the 2013 and 2014, oil filter location, filter model etc. are the same on the 3.3L 6 cylinder engine? Thanks
As far as I know Hi-sing everything is the same. Call a Hyundai dealership to verify the part numbers to be sure.
+Hi-sing Silen try lifting your hood and looking.
Does this suv have power widows and how many mpg on highway
Yes and 24 highway
FRAM "Extra Guard" Part number CH10855 for those not wanting to buy an oil filter from the dealership.
Any vehicle that has a factory warranty I replace with OEM filters only. Fram is a good alternative otherwise.
How many quarts of oil for oil change with filter ?
That depends on what car and engine size.
Sir,
can you show me where in blazes is the PVC valve on the 2013 Santa Fe Limited? I have searched and searched but I can't find the damn thing!!
Thanks
It should. The Santa Fe in the video was also built in South Korea.
thanks for this video!...
Thank U sir
Robert W your welcome Robert, thumbs up!
how many liters of oil and whats better 5w30w or 10w 30
5W30, 6 quarts, i dont know anything about liters
i think i can pull out the oil from above by a special pump tool !
6 quarts right?
YES, good point Hunt, 6 quarts of oil for this model/engine. Take it easy- Ozz
Sir,
Where in blazes is the power steering resovoir?? (2013 Santa Fe (LWB) looked high and low and I'll be damned if I see it!! Thank's in advance!
Robert W you can also look left and right but Robert you still wont find the power steering reservoir.....because there is none. This model has ELECTRIC steering......quickly the days of hydraulics are fading away. Take it easy - Ozz
I have a 2005 Hyundai-Santa Fe, the oil filter location on newer models a is a sudden SURPRISE to meeeee......
That is exactly why I made this video Robert. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Jesus Christ. That's where the oil filter is
WTF.
