I know a chill cat is perfect for educational purposes. But boi I've seen all of this with my little demon (as the vets named her, it suits her real name -Lilith- too), and it almost look like a wrestling fight 😂 in our case scruff doesn't work at all, but blankets (not towels, she rips them apart) and neck handling works fine. Thanks for the clear explanations, even tho I've seen this stuff I didn't know how it fully worked :)
Whenever i'm restraining a cat for a back leg draw I normally end up scruffing and holding the back leg off with the karate chop. I don't want a patient to be upset and I know that scruffing is not the best method of restraint. But i'm newish and I've been bitten once before and have been a little scared ever since because I did end up having to go on antibiotics lol. Is the method of holding both front paws and having your arm on neck really that bite proof? I always feel that if the cat was fractious enough it could totally just adjust its head enough to bite me. Just looking for a little advice :)
Cats are masters of twisting around and biting the crap out of your hands. I have worked with a few veterinarians and none of them ever suggested holding the head down like this for a cat unless you're going to use a cat muzzle or a towel/blanket to cover their head. I do agree that scruffing isn't always the best tool, but if it were me I'd feel a lot safer with something between me and their teeth if I was going to use this method.
The method of holding the head with an arm will get u bit real quick with a cat that’s not cooperative like the one they used in the demonstration. A cat can 100% still bite u that way. If u think the cat might bite then u need to scruff it, use a muzzle, or cover the head with a towel and then hold its head with your arm. And if it’s really fractious I would personally use drugs. Getting torn up by a cat is the worst. I’d rather deal with an angry dog any day.
Wouldnt the c hold under the chin put the holder at risk of getting bit? The vet I work with always tells me not to hold under the chin because it the cat slips its head out it will bite your hand. Not saying it is wrong just trying to learn! Im pretty enw at my job so I want to get better at cat restraints since it is my biggest weakness, thank you!
I have a very fractious cat. As soon as I open the door to the best office he starts a A very low quiet growl, begins to hiss, & then he shows you his teeth. It's interesting though he will strike out at anyone that is coming into his a very secure territorial bubble and it's impossible to get him out of his carrier because he defends it to the end. Even though he strikes out his growls bites he never draws blood on me from me. He will go after everyone else in the room with full force but for some reason he does exactly behavior to me but has never drawn blood with me. He also is very defensive and territorial about anyone that comes towards me but only in the vet's office. Not sure of my cats normal or not?? They usually have to put in under a general to cut his nails. I was wondering is this a behavior that he has escalated from a trauma situation? Or is this just how he is? As soon as I put him in my arms and carry him to the door he's a happy camper. Is that normal??
The first two restraints are great but work better on a dog. If the cat were aggressive it could of still been able to bite her. Other then that very informative!
I need to irrigate and bandage a tail wound (near the anus) daily. Very sweet, small kitty who won't bite but will thrash. Any tips for securing him? We'll try the side hold since that looks like it might work best. Thanks!
How about cat in the bag it helps me to give my cats their hyperthyroidism medication also at the vet antibite muzzle my vet also prescribe antidepressant medication they help my cats with calmness and missing the box!
I have yet to see a video on how to restrain a cat (to give her her pill) that uses actual cats. You dont even need to restrain such a mellow cat. Whats the point?
This is a good video on how not to restrain a cat. My vet does it so much better. This looks more like things for a dog. That doesn’t work the same for a cat, especially when they’re not calm like this one
my baby Junior you get a towel out he goes into combat psycho mode and that just to give him ear drops it takes 2 people and its full combat for sure and yes there will be human blood spilled lol
Now be serious one minute. My angry cat never leave you do that kind of manipulation on him. Take a really angry cat and we talk seriously bye vets if you are?
Spooky has to be one of the most mellow and chill cats. Good job Spooky!
Your darling Spooky is way too compliant to be compared to an actual warrior of the tribe.
RIGHT hahaha
They have a video with advanced techniques for really angry cats.
I'm president of Spooky's fan club and she did phenomenally.

Spooky is so patient; what a sweetie 💜
Spooky was so calm she really said 👁👄👁
Spooky is an adorable name and she's such a good girl through the whole demonstration, even though she clearly wasn't thrilled
Spooky - "guys...not again....how many times do I have to do this?"
also, we all know we are watching this just because Spooky is so cute.

Seriously :( my cat is insane and I cannot get her IV bandage off, and it’s cutting off her circulation.

I came here after attempting to hold down a very squeamish cat decided to very violently resist getting a blood draw on my second day. Thankyou.
Miss Spooky is an Absolute Beautiful Feline
Hoo what relaxed kitty 🐱 model 🐱🐱
Great video! Thanks for posting these tips. Unrelated, but the guy sounds a bit Kiwi at times, am I right?

Is there a way to place a cat in lateral recumbency by yourself without scruffing
I just want to pet the kitteh!
miss spooky
I have to put an ointment in his chin. Idk how I'll be able to do it
She’s adorable
I just don't see those methods working on our big stray tomcat but thanks anyway!
Good job spooky good job sweetie
Squish that cat.
🌹Miss Spooky has a home with me if ever she needs one. Seriously lovely feline‼️

Nice tuxedo cat.

Lucy holding front and back legs only in that lateral hold looks dangerous... zero head control.
thats exactly what i was thinking!! I get a lot of fractious cats in my clinic and I know for sure that would not work for them lol
I'd pay to see someone do them with my cat and succeed with just 2 people, my cats last doctor took 3 people and none of them techniques worked lol.
I'm rather assuming you give a typical high stress cat some high stress sedative to accomplish this.
The things I've to do to get some chicken treats - probably Lucy
Cutie 😻
Ah yes, i love boxes aswell
That clam cat if you try that with one my cats you be missing a body part
Good things that we humans are bigger than our cats, since they are supple, strong, and fully equipping for fighting.
I want you to do all that with a cat that will not let you even pick him up!
This cat is way too nice Lmao. Spooky just did not care one bit during this entire encounter.

🖤
My cat will die soon since its crazy and i cannot make sub cutaneous serum 😒
This is like Ju-jitsu or something lol
my baby Junior you get a towel out he goes into combat psycho mode and that just to give him ear drops it takes 2 people and its full combat for sure and yes there will be human blood spilled lol
Shes cute.
And i don't just mean the cat.
I like Lucy's' smile at 0:04, it's sweet and seductive !
😆
Help this man get Laid. Whos with me?
Spooky: why u gotta do this to me? What’d I do man
Spooky black
for the side ur lucky Spooky is a nice cat. Otherwise Lucy would have had 4 holes in her hand
Thats easy to do with a lovely mellow cat like Spooky, bet you wouldn't demonstrate that with my hissing, biting, scratching, squirming 7lb demon
Most of handling has 2 people to work, how about a single person handling and grooming the cats
hi Ryan, i am in love with you.
whyd the the youtube algorithm lead me here
