This is one of the most professional and calm instances of handling a cat I've ever seen. Had a vet tech at our old vet roughly scruff a very sick kitten that couldn't hold herself up, much less bite or scratch. Good demonstration of only using as much force as needed.

i believe cat anatomy resembles dogs enough that one can force extraction without harming the animal;
Well the alternative is drawing urine with a needle straight from the spicy kitten's bladder.

When animals pee its a stress and nervous thing. They act angry bcuz they're defensive and hiss to act tough bcuz they are lowkey more scared of humans than we are of them
@MrCloudseeker me too!
That's the angriest blanket I ever saw. Adorable. 😊
Well done! Poor baby. Thank you for taking care of a difficult patient and not turning him away. ❤
This cat had been banned from other vet offices. Can you imagine that cat-owner's RELIEF at finding a place that knew how to handle and treat their cat? Kudos all round!
absolutely. i admire the owner for not only having enough patience to care for this poor fella but also care enough to take him to the vet regularly in spite of how difficult he is. i wish all cat owners cared that much.
i do wonder what max's temperament is like outside the vet's office, though- could be night and day! some cats just really hate going to the vet. i'm sure he's a great cat.
He's probably a perfectly nice cat. The cat I have now I adopted when she was 7, she is 19 now. She is the absolute sweetest, most loving cat to me you could ever see. But when I take her to the vet she is just like the cat in this video. Not only will she try to fuck up everyone at the vet office, but she will try to kill me just as much. She has fucked me up a couple of times. Last year at her checkup they were unable to draw blood from her for her yearly checkup. She is due this month for her yearly checkup and shots, so they will HAVE to get her blood this year. But the place I go to doesn't give them an injection, they have a machine they put them in and gas them(I can't recall the name of the drug they use). They have never had to use it before on her, guess I will find out soon if this will be the year they finally have to... ;-p
She might have been abused in her /his kitten hood before you adopted her. Many years ago I adopted a homeless young cat who acted the same as this cat. She would hide when visitors visit. I'm convinced that she was abused. The only people she would let pet her were my mom and myself. We kept her and she became very gentle, but it was a long process. I admire the vet's handling of her. Very professional and gentle.
yes the staff here are very calm and professional, this video is great :)
You are exactly correct! I adopted her from PetSmart, and the woman there who fostered here until it was her turn for adoption said the previous person she was with was an elderly woman who had to go to a nursing home and so of course sadly had to give her up. THAT woman said she adopted her from another place, and that they told her the people that had her first had "abused" her. But no one has any idea what kind of abuse she received there.
She doesn't only hate going to the vet's office. She hates having to leave the house. I had to have my house tented for termites a few years ago, and so had to stay in a nearby hotel for two nights. For about the first 12 hours we were there she was hiding under the bed and would try to attack me if I tried coaxing her out. Then she finally had to pee and got hungry enough that she came out, and after that she chilled out pretty fast. She also REALLY hates other cats. There are stray cats in my neighborhood and they will come up to the bay window where my cat loves to sit and sleep and mess with her. She attacks the glass and hisses like crazy. She also had to be kept in the bathroom when she was fostered because otherwise she would have attacked the other cats. So yeah, she clearly had some bad years in her past. But those days are all over now! She has been with me longer than anyone else now by far, and her days of being passed around like an STD in a whorehouse are over! I wouldn't give her up for a million dollars...
Max: *Demonic growling and screaming*

My newest cat threw a fit at the vet office my sister works at a few months ago. Thanks to my sister being a vet, we have an old cat (he's 18, and we've had him when he was a kitten), plus two foster failures - the aforementioned cat who threw a tantrum, and the sweetest girl kitty you might ever know. Didn't know I was a cat person, until my sister - who was in college to become a vet at the time - adopted a very sweet black cat, whom I loved for the 13 years he got to be on this earth.
The cat is not angry, he's ANGY ÒwÓ.
(I like how this was recommended to me 11 years later).
“Is your cat friendly?”
Compared to most demons, yes, he is very friendly.
Haha mine is harmless and way too scared to do anything, but he's still antisocial even 3 years after we adopted him as a baby. Still love him^^
I have one that friendly and the other one the previous owner must have been the son of Satan

This cat was not being mean or nasty, he was terrified. They handled him so gently that I was totally impressed.

I've been a vet for 20 years and that was the most incredible demonstration of effective, safe but also sympathetic handling of the fractious cat. I really hope that nurse in the video is paid well, she is amazing!
I feed and rescue feral strays in my neighborhood and I always take my new ones for a spay or neuter, check up with blood tests, and any other minor medical care needed. My Vet clinic has staff like this. They are so skilled, calm and efficient that these cats have never even thrown a claw in fear or anger. This woman is very much like them. I was thinking the same thing about her pay. It is a rare skill, indeed.
Is she not also a vet ?
Cool Beans no, she said so in the video. You would think she was because of how she handled herself and the cat.
Susan Varga 100% agreed! I left a comment saying this was the best treatment of an angry cat that I’ve watched. Well done indeed!
Susan Varga
Came here to say the exact same thing but you already said it so well that nurse is exceptional and I wish all vet interactions with animals were that competent and sympathetic and understanding she was outstanding

So I’m wondering, how do you bathe a cat after all that? I feel bad for the owner :(
@@melissaalexander6736 It's prolly like warm wax in the arms of the owner where it feels safe.
Trick for bathing cats. Put a carpet on the bathtub bottom. It's the slippery surface that most freaks them out.
@@meryatathagres1998 thanks
Lmao
@@melissaalexander6736
To bathe a cat correctly you need a "kitty be good stick." If Mittens starts to try and un-ass the bathtub, just apply the "kitty be good stick" liberally about his head and shoulders. Be careful. He'll try to rocket out of the tub first thing so you'll need to be quick with the first "kitty be good stick" application. After the initial application Mittens might appear to be injured. That is just cat trickery, as they are related to possums and will feign injury. Mittens isn't injured. He is only resting and gaining strength for his second attempt at freedom, so another thorough application might be needed. Remember to use your "kitty be good stick" liberally and often to ensure that Mittens has a great bath time experience!
This lady is awesome!
She narrated beautifully.

Definitely, mine is the same way. But a sweetheart with me. And spoiled.
They handled this vicious cat masterfully. It takes guts. I used to work as a veterinary assistant when I was young. To those who call his treatment "cruel," remember they're helping him to live a healthy life. Refusing to treat him would be cruel.
I am sure they are doing what they had to how they had. They being as humane as possible while in severe danger themselves.
I saw nothing that she did that was cruel in the least.

Why didn't they do everything while he was sedated? That would have caused less duress
M D I’m not quite sure. They could have done so through his kennel but maybe it would have been unsafe because they cant hold him still and get the right spot? I’m no vet. One thing I do know, though, is that sedation can be a little unsafe especially depending on the animals condition, so they usually do bloodwork to determine if the animal is more at risk. Maybe they didn’t have bloodwork done or the animal was not in a position to be safely sedated.

Yes
I usually hate the stoicism movement, but this is the perfect display of when to be calm. A lot of women would freak out with a cat like this (probably why the other vets "fired" this cat). She's just like, yep, business as usual. So standard procedure is...
Almost as if it was their job.
i'm sorry max didn't make it sir don't worry about the bill
Very nice job ladies! We need more vets like you here in Wisconsin.
I have never heard a cat growl like that
The ability to restrain an angry cat is a martial art.
That's the best description I've heard!
Blanket style kung fu
Yeah if you're not trying to break it's bones. Cats are capable against things that aren't trying to actually hurt them like the alligator that didn't understand what it was and thus unable to determine where the cat was in comparison to itself on the food chain. Cats at least house cats aren't really scary they're just pains in the a*s which is why dogs are much more fun to hang with you don't need a silly ritual everytime you deal with them.
@incogspectator3042
Youve obviously never seen what a 20 lb house cat can do if it attacks a human. If a cat wants to fuck you up and you dont manage to block it when it leaps on you youre getting torn to shit. Could a cat kill a healthy adult human, no. Can they blind you (they instinctively will try to claw eyes), cause massive infection with their bites and tear you to the bone, yes.
A 20 lb cat is way more dangerous than a 20 lb dog. Most cats arent going to full on attack a person, though.
Kitty Fu😂

Just so other viewers know; This cat might appear extremely wild and violent here at the vet, but it's very possible he acts just fine when he's home. Some animals just really, really hate the vet. And can you blame them? :P
Princess YuBeace exactly. My cat has Matt’s on her belly but the vet wants 170-400 depending on the amount of sedation and time needed to shave her. At home she lets me brush her but not her belly so that’s gotten matted. She has been trained to go outside but stay in our yard. I can put a leash and harness on her and she won’t fight or bite, I can trim her nails and wash her ears. Those saying it’s poor pet ownership that they are like this at the vet don’t know what they are talking about. The only time she has ever known pain was at the vet. She’s had shots, two physicals (shes 3) and was fixed at 6 months and she KNOWS what the vet is. It’s not a happy place. Her tummy is also very sensitive and I can’t dematt it without her getting angry. I’ve tried and I think it hurts so she lets me know to back off. She’s not mean and she’s not dumb. She answers when I call her to come in from out back and wakes me up if I sleep in and breakfast is late by pulling down my blanket and kneading my chest or “combing” my hair with her claws. She’s an angel except if you touch her belly and I can’t blame her. But for those who say it’s poor pet parenting... you can kiss my behind. It’s not.
I can confirm. My boi is a love bug at home and nice with visitors always but even a little smell of a vet or a glance at a vet he goes KILL MODE instantly! We all lose some blood on those sessions 😅
Jevonte Hodge I’d like my pets to leave the vet clinic ALIVE thank you very much.

You are exactly right, my friend. People who comment nonsense like that obviously don't know anything about cats in particular-- or they simply don't pay nearly enough attention to animal behaviors specifically related to cats. Every single cat has such distinct personalities, quirks, and traits. They can't be compared to any other domestic pet-- or even to each other most of the time-- because they are just too different. And that's not a bad thing for people who adore them just as they are-- and on their own "cat terms".
As you I'm sure you know, cats are extraordinarily intelligent, and their memories are long. They rarely forgive easily (if at all), especially when compared to our canine pals who most of the time will forgive too easily and too often. How any cat behaves at any time, especially away from home, rarely has anything to do with "pet parenting"-- that is just absurd. For one example, we don't socialize cats in the same way that we do (should!) socialize dogs. It is simply about personality traits, unique personal cat experiences, and hundreds of thousands of years worth of genetic programming. It's almost like they really *_are_* from another world, LOL!
Vets are traumatizing to almost any animal who has had vet care, but especially vet care that involves any traumatic injury/illness, or surgical. You are right again-- vet = pain and fear. People should think about it like this: they not only *_experience_* pain and fear upon themselves, but they also *_smell_* injury, sickness, and even *_death_* at any vet office. They *_sense_* pain, fear, distress, etc. from both animals and humans-- in the entire building. I know those feelings all too well, and now I have PTSD that is medical trauma-induced. Imagine if you just can't understand any of the *_why,_* which is hard enough to understand if you are human and can speak.
If I could, I would *_show_* you how to safely clipper the mats and fur off of your kitty's belly-- with much less trauma, stress, and/or expense as at any vet office. It's no fun for either of you, but it is doable-- though while doing it you might not feel too sure about that. Still, I've even clipper-shorn feral cats who were injured-- that's "fun", lol. Maybe you can search TH-cam? There could be someone who has made videos of some methods or ideas to clipper cats? There seem to be videos on "how-to" everything else nowadays!
_Note:_ Men's beard clippers work well, but make sure the clippers don't get too hot (check all clippers often for heat). Be careful not to nick them-- use a half-moon motion-- start level with the cat's body, and then sweeping upward away from the cat's body. Also, try to hold the skin taught (stretched tight) to avoid nicks. I could try to comment how I've done things, but it would be really lengthy.
Please heed another bit of loving advice with whatever you may try-- *_do not_* ever use scissors on your cat-- any cat. Scissors are a perfectly dangerous opportunity for something *_really_* bad to happen to you or to your cat.
Sorry this comment got so long! Good luck to you and your furry little girl. The mats are most certainly hurting her, bless her, because they pull and pinch the skin so hard. Maybe why she hates to be touched there-- it already hurts enough?. I am wishing you the very best. Be safe and be well. ~Peace!
Can't blame them at all. That's the way I feel about going to the doctor.
Hats off to these women......i have had cats for the past 20 years and even though no serious issues, sometimes i get a little nervous around them.....
Communication skills is the word! Super amazing excellent teamwork & boom! It's finished! This cat is saved from other vets!
That cat is dropping so many F bombs...
0 5 indeed...
That's the cat version of Tourettes guy.
Hes gotta be cussing them left and right in catneese.
0 5 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
This woman is so professional and has such a sense of responsibility. Wow.
And poor cat. Haha he's very angry
ANGERY BOI
Apart from her loud mouth, she is a good veterinarian.
Vi c I agree 100% with you. She is extraordinary at her job and shared the "how to" like a good teacher. She is a multi-skilled individual. And yeah, very angry cat!
@@lisandropena9403 was your volume up too high - LOL!? This woman is not loud at all, maybe a bit long winded, but you should hear my sister just talk about her day! That is loud and long! This woman is actually an amazing CVT any vet would be glad to have in service. Easier than ya think to say something worthwhile.
@@lisandropena9403 She speaks "loud" and clear for the camera. Also it's a cat. They look cute and scream bloody murder when they're in stress but they are pretty hardcore for their size. He'll survive it.
God bless all of you. Thank you for all you do.
You are just brilliant the way you handle that cat. You are perfect in your job
"He gave us a good urine sample" translation: he emptied his bladder on the table.
LOOL
That's funny. When she said that I envisioned the cat peeing in a cup haha.
600th like
@@maggie0285 i only thought of something paralysed cats struggling to pee and is needed to be emptied on a catheter near the belly button
One of my cats always has explosive diarrhea every she gets blood taken
Damn she really knows what she's doing. Hope she's getting paid well.
Right?! She's so calm. That takes guts.
@@kwpp7 Of course she is calm. I think the other Lady, with the darker Hair, is to be commended. She was the one holding the Cat down 95% of the time. While the Nurse that everyone is referring to, was mostly just taking.
Even the best of vet techs o my get paid 50,000 a year. It’s a lot of work and less playing than what people think what it’s really about.
She's not.
Megan is an instructor at the Dove-Lewis veterinary
That is the most professional and awesome veterinary clinic ever!
