    Paul,
Thanks for showing this information on plasma sets. I have a Samsung plasma 1080p TV. It's working, but someday I may well need to be able to check the voltages to try and troubleshoot what the problem is.

I find your videos very interesting. Thank you for sharing. It's hard to stay posative these days. Life is just a journey, ride it right and you get to go somewhere fantastic. That looks just like my TV. When I bought it they said that Plasma was the best. Sorry to hear they are fading out.

Good morning, my 50 inch plasma is failing to turn on yesterday. Red led is on and cycles off for a few seconds then goes back on when I use the remote. Tried another remote with same result. Going to open it up this afternoon and see what I find. This unit about 5 years old. Thanks for the tutorial!

Is there a reason you didn't adjust Va voltage? Also, do you know what acceptable tolerances are for the various voltages printed on the sticker on the panel? Va, Ve, VScan, etc? Is 5% of the printed value acceptable, or 10%? Thanks!

I have a Samsung Plasma TV here that is clicking and double flashing the stand by light. Double flash/ Pause Double flash/ pause about five times. No visible signs on any of the boards, like say bulging capacitors or scorch marks, and I haven't yet tested points with my multi meter but from what I have seen so far it is the power board. It is a 2011 model PS43D490A1WXXU.

The video was very informative, but it doesn't address the particular symptoms that we are experiencing with our Samsung 42" HPS 4253X/XAA. This Plasma TV has been installed on a TrippLite HT-1000UPS to eliminate power brown outs and surges and has given us very reliable service. The symptoms ONLY appear at start up in the morning. The entire screen is dimmed but the channel chosen is still visible but is grainy and the entire screen slightly pulsates for about 5 minutes and then the screen cleans up and then appears normal. I presume it to be a power supply related issue ? Possibly an electrolytic weakened with use ? The TV works great otherwise and I hate to discard it without trying a simple fix. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm a Ham Radio Operator since 1966 and have experience with soldering and circuit repair, but not much experience with flat screen repair ?

  • @Ziffel22
    @Ziffel22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I've only had plasma tvs since flat screens came out. My first one was a Samsung EDTV (Enhanced Definition) on 480P cable and 720p on DVD. Now I have a Panasonic TC-P50ST60 which cnet gave it's highest ever rating to for a television.
Plasma TVs are the superior format but everyone is going towards LCDs. Too bad but I hope that my television will last the rest of my life.

High end plasmas had amazing picture. I seem to recall some states/jurisdictions were talking about banning them, because they suck power like crazy. So I think big screen TV makers kind of just said yeah okay, let's start moving towards LED/LCD type of big screens....

Hey Tampatec. Yours are my favorite instructional tv repair videos. I have a question on plasmas though...I tried troubleshooting my 60inch lg plasma. It just clicked on and off, then on and off. When I took the back off, the board with the HDMI inputs had a red light that flashed whenever the clicks happened.
Other videos suggest unplugging each board and cycle power to rule out the bad board. It clicked the same whether it was connected to one, some, all or none of the boards. I did my best to check voltages. No wonky caps. Seems like this is power board, yeah?

I'm troubleshooting a Pioneer 503cmx plasma. The set does a Power Down (protection ckt shutting down the PS) shortly after the relays click on . It will stay on if I disconnect X & Y sustain boards from the PS. Looking at PS, all the low voltage supplies are exactly where they should be. VSUS is 224V, but any test points marked "0V" on the PS board are reading -52V (to chassis gnd). No obvious signs of burnt parts and no bulged caps.
Ideas on where to look first? Also, would this failure be confined to the PS or would it be likely that it damaged other boards/circuits as well? Thanks so much for any input you may offer!

Hello! First thank you for all your videos. I don’t know if you will read this but I will give it a try, I also noticed that the video is 2 years old but I’ll take my chances.
A neighbor recently gave me a faulty 60-inch plasma TV, the exact model is PN60E5300AFXZA, when you plug the power cord the stand by red led comes on, and when trying to power on the tv it will blink a few times and nothing else happens, no sound, no nothing on the screen.
I took the back cover off to check if I was able to find any visible indicator of a bad capacitor or any signs of a damaged component. Nothing visibly damaged. I tried troubleshooting it by unplugging the cable that goes from the power board to the X Board (Right side of the tv) and to my surprise when you try to power on the TV this time you hear the power on tune, a sound! but no image and the TV goes back to standby mode.Voltage in the PS-on is correct and also in the Standby pin. I just want to know which board would be the culprit in order to find a replacement… Can you give me any other ideas on what to test to pin point the faulty board? The Y board gets power from the X board, so I unplugged just the Y board and no sound no picture. When the X board is unplugged, power on sound, no picture, and goes back to standby. Do you have any advice on what should I test next in order to find the faulty board? Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi!
I have a samsung plasma tv PS64F8505ST (the last plasma of their high end tv models/ 2013 European model)
I would apreciatie the help from you about my issue. Last year i replaced the Y-susboard due to no picture. This time my tv turns of about after 30-90 minutes. Everything just shuts of, even the led light. Cant turn on the tv with my remote even after i replugg the cord to the outlet. I thought the problem sat at the X-sus board.
I tried switching to another x-sus board but the tv wont even turn on or show any picture. The power board starts to "clicking" instead so i unplugged the x-sus board from the powersupply and the "clicking" sound went away. When i switched back the old x-sus board it worked fine without any clicking sound from the powersupply but the tv starts to turn of again after 30-90 minutes. I had the powersupply get a light inspection (just looking after any visible faults) but the guy said that he didnt se any problem with the board. What do you reccomend me to do next?
    Best regards

Hey Paul, I have this exact same tv .
When I got it, It would not turn on and had a fast flashing red stby. light on the front..
I replaced 4 bad caps on the power supply and it did turn on and stay on with no picture or sound so I ordered 2 buffer boards.
2 weeks later I installed the buffer boards and when I plugged it in the stby. light was solid, tried to turn it on and all it did was the relays clicking on and off 5 times and goes into shut down mode.
Unplugged both the Y and X boards, same click pattern.
I am showing 10 volts on the stby. and 25 volts on the 12volt pins, also 10 volts on the vs_on.
Is that still indicative of a bad main board?

    hello there!
i've been following you for quite a while and i'm saying is that i like the way you explain things... very "on jobist"!
I do some repairs for friends like an hobbist and at the moment i've an issue with a samsung plasma tv and i need your help, if you can, of course...
It's a samsung ps42e7sx/xec with the stanby blinkink and don't starts.
when you press the power button on the remote the tv receives the signal but still dont start.
i got the standby voltage 5volts steady to the mainboard and to the logic board.... but...
no other voltages appear....is dead... only get 0.75V in the place for the 12 volt return from the mainboard...
can you get some light to me, please?
    the best greets from Portugal

    Hi Tampatec
I am having a real problem plasma tv it is a LG 42PT353K. Now the power supply is fine for voltage with no boards connected to it. When i connect the main board the standby voltage is low it should be 5v and it is 3.45v.When i connect the x board tv clicks on then clicks straight off, so i changed the x board and it`s the same problem. Now i need some help with the logic board. I have been told to check the main board i need to solder a wire to it to test if the tv comes on.Any help would be grate for this trouble shoot.
    Cheers man.

Jim Dailey I have a Sony 65 inch projection tv which keeps blink ing the picture on and off. What's wrong with it? Thank You.

    • @mchammer256
      @mchammer256 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Jim Dailey. I would just check no wires are not loose in side and out side of it ,and check the voltages are what they should be going around the board. But as i have never seen inside a projection TV it is hard to say. If it is using a bulb i would just take it out and reinsert it , if possible to do that.
      Good luck with it .
