I really appreciate when van lifers talk about the struggles/obstacles bc it helps the rest of us prepare/plan/anticipate unforeseen issues and make adjustments. So, thank you!

Often times things like mirrors and audio systems can be reset by pulling the fuse for 30 seconds, or disconnecting the battery for that length of time. ~ Former QC repairman in a new car factory.

My god the views and photography in this video are even more awesome and awe inspiring than usual. Seriously, my eyes just started watering spontaneously on some of them, like a gust of fresh wind giving me goose bumps. This feels real, authentic, wholesome, I want this, I'm gonna get this.

I’m 50 days into van life and wow have I had issues left and right despite planning this for 3 years....vehicle problems, no matter how small are such a pain. I’ve been filming this adventure and its problems and my solutions...hopefully I’ll be starting a channel soon. Great work Christian!

I really feel like I was with you on your journey. Life doesn’t follow like a storybook, does it? I’m impressed at how you are able to capture the moments. I’m a photographer and I find it hard to capture all the story while also trying to experience the adventure at the same time. Would love to hear some about how you balance experiencing things and having to capture things.

I love when you do videos like this one- like a sneak peek on what life is on the road. Weather, van problems, camp spots and what not. So thank you! I love it. I don't think you need a mic though, can hear you perfectly if it's not too windy. Heh. Wondering if it's scary to sleep in the woods and hear wolves (?) howling 🥲 Love the doggos!

I love travelling and going with the flow but I figured all that work involved in van life is not my cup of tea so I move around and live in new locations in private affordable accomodations and satisfy my wanderlust. Can’t wait to finish my build though hanging in the Berkshires for the summer with occasional short trips around New England with just a blowup mattress and camp stove in my van is still super fun. It doesn’t take much to really enjoy the road.

As to your Ram's outside mirror problem, there should be a fuse that controls the electric motors on the mirrors. The fuse should be either in the engine compartment or inside near the dash. Figure out which fuse and pull it out once you get the mirrors where you want them positioned. This will deactivate the motors. Of course, this assumes it is the electric motors are making the mirrors retract and not the wind.

    Hi Christian:
I live in NZ, a place I gather you have visited to snowboard at - although I hope you got to see more of the country! I discovered your channel yesterday, as I hunkered down at home while we 'enjoy' 120km/hr+ winds as we get clipped by a tropical storm. I am retired now, and for the past 18 months have been living on my own since my wife died. I consider myself to be a citizen of the world - four passports, and a wanderlust that has never been tamed.
Many years ago (mostly the 1980's), I did most of my travelling over several years - going around the world - working as an engineer but also taking stock images to help me pay my way - and beginning a lifetime commitment to photography. I SO relate to your desire to be in nature, away from the pressures of city life, and I am also a bit of a loner: perhaps more so as I have got older. Over the years, I have tramped (you call it hiking) most of NZ and love its diversity. However, I miss the grand vistas of North America and the macro mammals: like bears, moose, wolves etc. that NZ does not have.
I had a bucket list of places I wanted to visit: South Georgia + Antarctica, the Galapagos, the Masa Mara, and spend more time in North America enjoying the amazing national parks of the USA and Canada. COVID has dealt that a major blow: NZ was very isolated to protect our population, in fact in the latter part of 2021 I spent 15 weeks in a bubble of one as Auckland city went into lockdown. I hope one day to be able to so some of those trips, but at almost 70, getting travel insurance with COVID variants around is not going to be guaranteed or cheap. In the meantime, viewing your channel has given me a vicarious pleasure in enjoying your experiences, honesty, intelligence and philosophy. You have my sincere thanks for that!
You asked about books: perhaps I can recommend books on the life of Lee Miller: a woman I can relate to as her life spanned many places, skills and challenges. I am reading one currently: The Art of Lee Miller right. She was a pioneering 'new woman' in the early 20th century who would not be defined by male values. She was considered what would later called a supermodel, but wanted to be on the other side of the camera, and she mastered the big view cameras and plate-processing of the day; and did fashion, portraiture, surrealist art (and was Man Ray's muse and co-creator). In WWII, she even became a combat photographer and eloquent journalist for Vogue UK: defying the military, to stay with the front line as Europe was liberated. She photographed the concentration camps and famously, on the day he killed himself, made a photo of herself cleaning off the filth of Dachau in the bathtub of Hitler's apartment , with her combat boots defiling Hitler's pristine bathmat . Sadly, she suffered massive PTSD post war, and gave up photography, but reinvented herself a master-chef, creating surrealist-themed meals until her death in 1977. She is an inspiration and I recognize in your a similar intelligence, multi-talent, and a restlessness.

There are those not-so-warm-and-fuzzy moments living the van life. Just like on the backpacking trips, the ones you've planned and prepared for, things just don't seem to gel or go right. You deal with it and move on. I've done month long adventures and you cannot anticipate breakdowns. Once in Kentucky my vehicle sat in a friend's driveway for three weeks while I waited for a part that had to be shipped from Italy, leaving me to rent a vehicle for my vacation. That sucked! That left me one week to return to my base in Arizona.

The best parts of this video were the dogs and the songs you chose for the background, really nice. The question I have, which perhaps it’s just me - and I don’t understand is - if a person lives on the road/van life - and gets a GF or a BF - then how does it work if you “meet up” with other travellers and you are in a relationship? I can’t tell in this video if the 2 make friends you went camping with, the sleeping arrangements etc. How does a couple who are dating go on dates? Plan for the future? Sounds nosy I know, but I can’t be the only one who wonders about this. PS I live in Canada and while this lifestyle looks great, I spend about 4 months of the year where it’s -15C so I can’t swing this.

The handheld fans connected to a spray bottle are AmAZing for those suffocating hot times! You can pick them up at Walgreens or any super market.

I love the sunflower shots with the mountain range in the background! (Especially 0:05 with the contrasting moody mountains in the background!)
A lav mic would probably help the audio quality, but I really don't mind the occasional background noise. You're driving, and the background noise makes it more "in the moment" with you.

Do you have room someplace in the van for a small collapsable two wheel hand cart (like the old luggage type)?, that might make water transport easier to roll or drag a 5 gallon can of water to the van rather than carrying 30-35 lbs 100's of feet. I suppose you might be able to build a small wheeled platform (2 six/eight inch wheels and an axle on a wood or metal base frame.) that specifically fits your water containers, then that gets bungied over/onto the container and then connect a rope type handle to the container handle and pull it to the van. But a fold up , collapsable hand cart might be more versatile in the long run for moving heavier things like cases of canned beverages, batteries and very large platters of sushi.

Nothing more to say than brilliant! Fantastic photography great editing, no you don't need a mic it sounds fine. What a pain in the ass... those mirrors. More videos like this love to see what your life, your reality day to day. Great example, the mirrors and the Heat and getting used to the noise again of the road. Keep up the great work

Thanks Howard 🙌🏼 Yeah, fingers crossed the mirrors can be reset by removing that board and accessing the control panel. If not, just gotta live with it I guess 🙃

Good to see you back on the road again. Seems like the worlds weather is gone bonkers. It was 31°C here in London UK a few days ago and yesterday it only reached 14°C, so cold I had to put the heating on. Really weird weather, so changeable.
