I couldn’t agree more on brass accents, it’s beautiful, easy to work with, I like it for the nut, markers, inlays, rosettes, even binding channels, awesome
@@TheWoodenHobbyistmy guitar tech Bill in 98’ bound a crappie Tele’ with copper and put a Strat neck as a experiment “ like Ian Moore used Tele’ neck on his Strat” the binding looked fantastic “he did channel it” was stronger than the neck “bad idea for tuning stability” looked awesome
heres an idea for neck inlays: pyrography art on a lighter wood like maple fretboard or something, i like the idea of woodlands themed like birds/ feathers/ leaves as inlays and a 12th fret symbol of a deer or elk or something
I'm glad the algorithm recommended your video. Your narration was informative and fun without being over the top or annoying like some channels I've encountered- can't wait for more!
It's beautiful, unique, and sounds great!!! Well done! I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and have lately been really watching a lot of these guitar builds! Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us!
Beautiful guitar man! That wood grain looks really unique! I like how you worked around the challenges you faced along the way of the build. Great job!!!
I have used a lot of brass accents in bass building. I like making fret marker inlay material from a 1/8" aluminum tube with 1/16" carbon fiber rod glued inside. Once sanded and polished, you get a nice silver ring around a black center.
@@TheWoodenHobbyist Not sure where my reply went! Anyway, I bought the K&S Precision Metals aluminumc tube from my local hobby store, which is a HobbyTown USA. But any hobby shop should have some. The carbon fiber rod I sourced from Dragonplate. It's pretty cheap.
I am a HUGE inlay nerd. I have purchase guitars before just because the fret inlays were unique. I love the PRS bird inlays - one of my favorites. I also just got a Schecter Nick Johnston tele style guitar with brass ring inlays. I think it would be cool to have a "black jack" themed guitar. Some subtle nods to poker (tasteful - not overdone like an orange county chopper) with black jack/playing card symbol/poker specific inlay work.
Thanks for the inspiration I've had my unfinished guitar body sitting for over a year feeling defeated because I don't have the perfect edge for the joinery, and videos like this make want to to keep pushing!
you should try making an electric out of ash for the body, neck and some dark fret board and a 3x3 headstock but with some greyish wood markers and side dots
@@TheWoodenHobbyist thats a shame but i hope you get some soon cuz its a really nice guitar wood (and i live in ireland so everything made of wood is ash or oak)
Wow that is such a cool guitar with a live edge! Scarlett guitars is a great name for your "company " love the live edge. Thoughts on inlays. Different coins would be cool. You could insert a stained dowel into a red, blue or yellow big gulp straw and use this for an easy ringed inlay.
I love your builds! I just finished shaping the body of my own oak and birch telecaster. The body alone is heavier than my strat so I will need to carve it semi hollow.
@TheWoodenHobbyist I don't see the front when I play. 😀 I had to add white side dots to my ibanez ichi 1o. Those glow in the dark ones on roasted maple are invisible ha. I used to build electrics 20-30 years ago. I would love to again but can't make noise. 🙃
The guitar is unique and gorgeous, kind of reminds me of a Gibson SG. Thanks for the efforts of the documenting of the build and making the video. Out of curiosity, what does it weigh?
Kicking in a sub so that you can maybe get a proper sponsorship from EMG one day. Some nice ideas in this build and you are definitely developing your own workflow and style. The burl is lovely - but it might be worth keeping the rest as tops only - but it means you could double the amount of guitars made from it. For hardening, Ben over at Crimson Guitars has used cactus juice, but has also been experimenting with superglue.
Thanks a lot! I’ve saved about 20 guitar tops from the burl and they’re insane looking. A lot of curl and compression grain! I’ve also thought about CA glue for the next build as a hardener. We shall see!
12:48" Dude, that's almost like cheating, hahaha! I love the video editing as much as the woodworking. Keep at it and don't build the same thing twice!
Something ive not seen as a fretboard inlay that i think would be neat is stipes instead of dots. They could be done with epoxy or with thin strips of another wood, an example of how you could do it could be: _ _ _ /// _ _ ///// _ _ /////// _ _ ///////// _ _ _ \// _
commenting again with my neck inlay idea- lego studs in clear epoxy so you can see the color/logo of them... actually, nevermind, I want to do that idea for myself 🤣
I stacked and stickered the slabs and placed a fan on one side, and a dehumidifier on the other. I then made a box out of polystyrene foam insulation and placed it over the wood, fan and dehumidifier. The foam held in enough heat to allow the dehumidifier to get the temp up to 125F.
I’ve been wanting to make guitars for years and this may have just pushed me into finally doing it. Now I just need to hide the cost of my guitars and tools… 😂

Never tried it as binding! What a cool idea!

Sometimes I prefer beauty over function anyways 🤷🏻♂️
Mosaic pins can be made easily and be different everything. Knife makes use them for handle pins.
Good idea!
The guitar looks beautiful. Really great video!
Thanks a lot!

That would be great! I’ve never done pyrography before but I like the idea. Especially with this particular build.

That’s awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Dude your videos are extremely high quality, and that build is amazing, keep it up!
Thanks a lot! I enjoy making videos as much as guitars. Many more to come 🤘🏼🎸
Absolutely beautiful work.. Been a player 33yrs, played only 62’ Strats my whole career, but I’d love a live edge Strat wired my way
Much appreciated! Means a lot coming from someone with experience 🤘🏼
It's beautiful, unique, and sounds great!!! Well done! I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and have lately been really watching a lot of these guitar builds! Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us!
Thanks for watching!
This is more quality that top shelf guitars!!
Thanks!!
Legitimately one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. I was so worried you wouldn't play it for us! Great video.
I really appreciate that! Gotta give a sound test when a sound test is due 🤘🏼🎸
Beautiful guitar man! That wood grain looks really unique!
I like how you worked around the challenges you faced along the way of the build. Great job!!!
Thanks! The challenges are what make it fun 🤘🏼🎸
Thank you SO much for turning me onto that table edge bit, definitely going to pick one up
Hell yeah! I’ve found best results by taping a 1/8” scrap to the heel when routing it. Come back and let me know what you think of it

I’ve been eyeing ideas similar to that. Do you have links to the materials you mentioned? I’d love to give them a shot!

This is so special I would put in see thru display case nice work
Thanks a lot!

Ash is pretty common for a body. Were you thinking it should be painted or color in some sort?
@@TheWoodenHobbyist purple stain looks dope and isnt too comon. my strat copy is ash and i just love that thing sm so thats why i chose ash
Ash is a pretty nice and workable wood. I don’t have a lot of it near me but I’d definitely like to use it one day.
@@TheWoodenHobbyist thats a shame but i hope you get some soon cuz its a really nice guitar wood (and i live in ireland so everything made of wood is ash or oak)

I subed immediately. Beautiful build.
Much appreciated!

Thanks! 🤘🏼
A beauty ❤❤❤
Thanks!
Hey man love your approach and narration! keep it up!
Much appreciated! 🤘🏼
Would love to see your take on an acoustic. Thats a mold that doesnt get broken enough imo, theyre alllll the saaaame shape.
I’m actually working on a design now. Video should be posted in January. It’s definitely going to be different
stone inlays would be so so cool!
That’s actually a badass idea

@@TheWoodenHobbyistI haven't thought about that. I have never made a youtube video but I might take some pictures or videos of the progress.
@@veikkajoensuu right on! Reach out and show me whenever you’re done. I like seeing custom builds.
@@TheWoodenHobbyist where should I reach out to you? I have a million questions about this challenge and I would love to share my build with you!

Thank you!
I like blank fingerboards. The big oval side dots on Parker guitars are good enough 😃
I get lost without inlays lol

Great work dude!!

Thanks a lot! And I’m honestly not sure, it’s deceptively light, though.
That is beautiful man..
Thank you!
Neck inlay idea: recycled bottle caps!
I bet that could be turned into something rather unique
oi oi! beautiful geetar and awsome noodling skillz guy!
Much appreciated! Gotta get the noodles some more practice to be honest 😂

Since you don't like to waste things, keeping the little brass stoppers from old sets of guitar strings could make for a cool set of fret markers.
That’s a pretty good idea!
