Question on the bridge setup: Maddi says he sets up the bridge to be level with the top of the guitar body. I know for sure he means the tilt of the bridge between the pull of the strings and the spring claw in the back, but does he also get the height of the bridge base to be flush with the top of the body as well? I never saw him adjust bridge height with the bridge screws, so I was wondering how high the bridge normally should be relative to the top of the guitar body before adjusting action from individual string saddles.
Interessantes Video. Viel Eindrucksvoller fand ich die kleine Dem am Schluss. Wow! Hut ab! (Mich haben auch die kleinen LTE Gesprächsfetzen sehr erfreut) super!
interesting video I have always changed them one at a time especially back when I had FR trems Now I have tune o matic bridges and i basically run each string through the locking tuner and with a pair of needle nose pliers wrap the string around the pliers and pull the string tight/then lock/stretch Then play it very hard for about 10 minutes doing bends and etc to finally get the strings broken in
I though my Kiesel felt good and I literally performed all the checks along with this video and wow it feels like a pro now. This video is more inspiring than it is (already) informative
Man that's insane low action. Too me that's too low, i cannot deal with it. I setup my action to 4/64 on the 17th fret and on one of my strats i have it at 5/64. But i'm not a shredder type of guy, i play very melodic when playing lead guitar. Idk if that has anything to do with it, just my thought. Respect for maddi for taking good care of John's guitars.
What about the individual string height on the bridge after setting the truss rod? Following the radius of the neck of course but the lower strings are buzzing the D,G,B,E are fine. There’s a point where you have to fine tune each one regardless of the radius depending on the thickness of the strings right? Or do we do another truss rod adjustment?
That’s why I really don’t like this part of this setup video: it assumes the string height is set correctly at the bridge (and for that matter at the nut). That very well might be the case if it’s only a string change on a known guitar that only needs a tweak of the relief due to environmental change... but a ton of guitars I’ve seen for setup are a complete mess and it’s a little concerning to think that some people after watching this video will be trying to get the action set solely by cranking on the truss rod.
This was amazing I kinda wish I'd have Majesty to watch and setup along If you could do a bass one it would be amazing because I have no idea how to deal with those beast But If you somehow could do this mega episode on fret leveling and crowning That would be just unbelievable
1.25mm string action... Insane low! I've got on mine Ibanez RG550DX 1.5mm which and get little bit buzz, if going lower it will get super buzzy (not enough space for strings) plus it will choke notes
@@gregg7233 yes but then as John's luthier says... It won't work for everyone... John's playing technic is very light (not an average guitar player) otherwise you will get way too much buzz...the other thing is... I wish to hear dry signal of John's recordings pretty interesting... I know JP it's undoubtedly virtuoso of electric guitar but I've talked to few luthiers they said there is no way not to get sagnificant amount of buzz plus possibility of choked notes is pretty high, so super low string action its for low percentage of guitar players.

Great to get to nerd out today!!! Thanks for the video. Playing and setting up my own guitars for 30 years and still able to learn something new.
Maddi is such a great guy, thanks for the episode!
Awesome!!! I can't believe I just now discovered these videos. I used to do like Maddi, I'd look at pictures in guitar world back in the day trying to see what string heights different guitarist use. I'm working on setting my 2013 Les Paul. I've tried straight neck, slight relief, lot of relief. High action, low action, medium. Eventually I'll find the "sweet" spot soon, I hope.
Awesome video!
I wonder if there is already a video explaining the routine on the road for a guitar tech? Like before load-in, before sound check cheklist, etc... Basically a cheklist or to-do list to make sure the guitarist is in good hands after all his/her demands/personnal preferences.
Thank you very much!
Excellent video!! Thanks for showing how to change strings, adjust truss rod, adjust floating tremolo & intonation on a JP Majesty guitar! This axe is one of my favorite guitars cause it looks, sounds and has a neck that is super comfortable to play!!!
This is probably the best setup video I have seen. Great job and thanks!
28:15 just imagine you were holding a screwdriver (parallel) to the nut/truss rod (instead of an allen key, makes it a bit easier to think about) and do righty tighty, lefty loosy
... And thanks for having Maddi, unsung hero
Maddi is such a pleasant dude, wish I'd seen this video sooner. Thanks for making it :)
Great video idea!
Would love to see Steve Vai's guitar tech, or Joe Satriani's!
The guys behind the scenes dont get enough credit they are the ones who make sure everything goes smoothly all the musicians have to do is get up and play depending on what level they are at if they cant afford a tech they have to do all the maintenance themselves
Good to see you with this cool section of Thomann channel Kris! Keep it going!
Thanks a lot man! //Kris
Wow thank you so much, this is simply just eye opening and saves me from confusing myself with all the redundant information on the internet. I got to learn the best from the best...for free!
How much neck relief does he end up with? Any measurement?
Is it completely straight or just a little bow?
Would be great with Thomas nordegg and also lukathers tech, Jon Gosnell.
Great videos, thanks!
I'd aim for "James Bond" .007". Works for me just great. Chris had a video saying .008". Experiment
Great video as always. No mention of pickup height. So I will assume they're body mount with no adjustment.
Kris,
Great video and tech work. The part of the video where you mentioned working for Thomann and being surrounded by all the great musical toys. Like a candy factory for musicians. I want my Thomann job now..lol
It's really good to imagine the two angles of Maddi being one
Thanks for this. I've changed the strings on my Majesty several times - and adjusted the truss rod. I always checked if the bridge was level and didn't need to adjust it so far (I adjusted the spring tension on other guitars though). Never tried to adjust intonation - I might try now.
Excellent ! Thanks for this deep insight into guitar adjustment tips with some very cool guys 👍
what a great joy to learn from the top guitar tech! full of practical details! learnt a lot! thank you so much to make this video!
eines der besten Videos in diesem Bereich auf YT! 🤟
Vielen Dank Florian!! Wir hoffen, dass es vielen helfen wird. Ciao //Kris
Very cool (-: The only things that I'd want to know is pickup height, and why Ernie Ball Majesty's don't have Titanium, or Carbon fiber rods in the necks for stability? Thanks for everything guys! Rock on! (-:
OMG the red majesty is a beauty!!! Also great video, there's so much to learn. Thank you very much
26.20 ''we are not going on Mars, we are just playing guitar''. Yeah, and Bruce Lee was just jumping around a bit. (Thank you Thomann for the interesting videos.)
This is more than a reveal, it’s a master class!
Maddi, this made my day, thank you for letting us in on your tips, tricks, can't wait to see more!🤘
Hands on best string change video I’ve seen. Thanks for the posting, subbed and shared..
Wish a Majesty was in the budget, it’s a majestic masterpiece.
Taking the guest work out of proper guitar set up thanks for letting me in on all the different angles of professional settings up great full to share your expertise
guess work.
I am saving this video cuz... someday... someday... that will be my main guitar! Probably a good upgrade from my Harley Benton S-620 TR (hey! which I love!)
More interviews with Maddi please!
This was amazing!!!!! I set up my JP just like his now and it feels fantastic!
Ibanez RG/Jem series would be awesome to see!
Why play an Ibanez when you can play an Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty BFR!
@@faberbootlegs Like buying American made goods! Certainly, Japanese manufactured instruments are of great quality and own a Tama Starclassic kit . Yamaha, Ibanez, Roland/Boss, Ibanez tube screamer are all fine products.
I like this format! Very informative.
Awesome video! I finally changed the strings on my Majesty Monarch. They were the originals and I held off because I thought I would mess up the floating bridge. I had issues with a Floyd Rose years ago on an Ibanez. And, since took it to a shop for restringing.
Easy Peasy, with Maddi's method. Plus I love the EB system much better than the FR. Then again I love my Majesty over my Ibanez many times over. lol Anyway, thanks for the detailed instructions to both of you.
Excellent info thanks Kris
I absolutely love these setup videos you should try and find Claptons old guy and do one in his memory ❤
Maddi is a gem. Great information.
You seemed to enjoy that MusicMan ... I have a Sterling JP60 and that thing is AMAZING !!!! I could only imagine how awesome the REAL DEAL is like.OMG Ibet its next NEXT LEVEL
Wow! Hut ab! (Mich haben auch die kleinen LTE Gesprächsfetzen sehr erfreut) super!
interesting video I have always changed them one at a time especially back when I had FR trems
Now I have tune o matic bridges and i basically run each string through the locking tuner and with a pair of needle nose pliers wrap the string around the pliers and pull the string tight/then lock/stretch
Then play it very hard for about 10 minutes doing bends and etc to finally get the strings broken in
Thank you guys!!! You're doing such a great useful job!!! The value of this information is insane!
Than for the excellent video! Great tutorial from experts
God bless you for those videos, fantastic to watch those pros.
Thanks so much!! :) //Kris
I though my Kiesel felt good and I literally performed all the checks along with this video and wow it feels like a pro now. This video is more inspiring than it is (already) informative
Fantastic video. Thanks. JP is my hero.
This is awesome. How about maybe trying to get Colin Price, Dave
Murray from Iron Maiden's tech on next?
Finally. Someone did it. Great videos.
Maddi is such a legend!
This is simply awesome! God bless you both :) i would enjoy to see Steve Vai Guitar Tech :)
Yes !!! That would be more than awesome !!
What a great find-Maddi thanks for sharing your gold
@@lonnyhandwork422 Indeed man.
Wow thats a great format.
Next John Frusciantes tech please :)
Great suggestion! I have some really cool people coming up soon and this is "just" the beginning of the journey. :) //Kris
This was amazing
I kinda wish I'd have Majesty to watch and setup along
If you could do a bass one it would be amazing because I have no idea how to deal with those beast
But
If you somehow could do this mega episode on fret leveling and crowning
That would be just unbelievable
1.25mm string action... Insane low! I've got on mine Ibanez RG550DX 1.5mm which and get little bit buzz, if going lower it will get super buzzy (not enough space for strings) plus it will choke notes
If your neck is straight and frets are level you can get REAL low
@@gregg7233 yes but then as John's luthier says... It won't work for everyone... John's playing technic is very light (not an average guitar player) otherwise you will get way too much buzz...the other thing is... I wish to hear dry signal of John's recordings pretty interesting... I know JP it's undoubtedly virtuoso of electric guitar but I've talked to few luthiers they said there is no way not to get sagnificant amount of buzz plus possibility of choked notes is pretty high, so super low string action its for low percentage of guitar players.
Mpow Flame blutooth headphones on the guitar tech. i notice that double blink anywhere :P
I love this, nothing but science/physics and no voodoo BS, good job.
