After hearing her speak with such eloquence and with such pure adoration for the sport, I spent the last 3 hours watching her fights. Her foot speed and judgement of distance is insane! Really beautiful in and out style and even for a total UFC casual like myself, her skill is painfully obvious.
I'd like to give praise to Pavel Fedtov! He has done such an amazing job with her throughout the years. No big team, no franchise, just a guy who knows how to effectively train these two ladies and bring them both to the highest level. He'd take a bullet for them, in fact he actually did!

We do pronounce our Z's and R's quite harsh and it spills through the accent. However she wouldn't sound like this in Russian, you can lurk Valentina speaking Russian and it sounds sweet. One of my favorite things about Valentina is how she waits in her corner; everyone bounces around trying to stay loose. Valentina just stands there, hands up, not moving, staring at her opponent eagerly waiting for the bell to ring. It’s just so bad ass.

they say that so the fighter can relax and be less anxious, i disagree with it though. Best fighters are people like GSP who are shitting themselves leading up to the fight but they embrace that state of constant worry, it forces them to want to win instead of relaxing and just going in there to perform.
I love how thoughtful and honest she is. She is at that point where there are undoubtedly tons of people in her professional life (and probably her personal life) gassing her up and boosting her ego. People in interviews will be arrogant ON HER BEHALF (I remember Megan Olivi and her 'were you OFFENDED that this woman thought she could compare to you?!' thing). Watching her fight is truly a unique experience. I'm Peruvian and that's her adoptive country. Everybody loved her over there from day 1. The first time I saw her perform I was caught off guard. And this was about 12-13 years ago. A good couple of May Thai World Championships but still relatively unknown to the general public. Her artistry and her subtle violence is a true thing of beauty. Plus, everything she does from the firsts till the last second, there's something mystic to it. Performance aside, you can tell right away she's doing something that's truly special for her. I think Joe actually gets off on monologuing about how great fighters are. At least she deserves it, unlike his weeping about how Rousey could beat Floyd Mayweather.
In Joe’s defense, at the time rousey was fighting it really seemed like no one could do what she did. All her fights lasted seconds and didn’t make it to round 2 and honestly look at the records of the people she was fighting. Zingano was undefeated and finished in seconds by her. Also note that zingano defeated Nunes by tko before that fight. She faught miesha twice and finished her twice. Sara Kaufman who was also a champ she beat by armbar in seconds.

You cant compare valentina to ronda, valentina was a 8x world champ kickboxer with a record of 57-2, a pro boxing record of 2-0 and was 11-1 in mma when she got to the ufc, she already had 73 pro fights. Shes now defended her belt 6x and is 11-2 in the ufc. Her rematch with nunes i had valentina winning 3rds to 2 but it was a very close split decision. Ronda was a novice in the ufc and her legacy was short lived.

She would have improved her fight iq and striking alot more. Watching her fight is truly a unique experience.
I'm Peruvian and that's her adoptive country. Everybody loved her over there from day 1. The first time I saw her perform I was caught off guard. And this was about 12-13 years ago. A good couple of May Thai World Championships but still relatively unknown to the general public.
Her artistry and her subtle violence is a true thing of beauty. Plus, everything she does from the firsts till the last second, there's something mystic to it. Performance aside, you can tell right away she's doing something that's truly special for her.

Of all the women's MMA champions of all time (so far) she seems like the most 'complete' human being - by far. Skilled, tough, smart, beautiful, extensive world travels and has lived in the 3rd world for long periods, speaks multiple languages, tactical firearms training/enthusiast, dancer, film/arts school, actress, outdoorsy, etc.
You can tell she genuinely has her shit together, like she could probably be a millionaire running just about any business, if she wanted.

In Joe’s defense, at the time rousey was fighting it really seemed like no one could do what she did. All her fights lasted seconds and didn’t make it to round 2 and honestly look at the records of the people she was fighting. Zingano was undefeated and finished in seconds by her. Also note that zingano defeated Nunes by tko before that fight. She faught miesha twice and finished her twice. Sara Kaufman who was also a champ she beat by armbar in seconds.

You cant compare valentina to ronda, valentina was a 8x world champ kickboxer with a record of 57-2, a pro boxing record of 2-0 and was 11-1 in mma when she got to the ufc, she already had 73 pro fights. Shes now defended her belt 6x and is 11-2 in the ufc. Her rematch with nunes i had valentina winning 3rds to 2 but it was a very close split decision. Ronda was a novice in the ufc and her legacy was short lived.
Record everything any human says for a decade then pick out one thing, remove context, and use that as your sole point of reference.

And she had horrific arthritis in her knees so wrestling (double leg takedowns) were not going to be possible. Imagine what she would have been if she left edmond and went to alliance mma where travis brown used to train with dominick cruz when travis was ranked #3. She would have improved her fight iq and striking alot more. Or coulda have gone to train with the diaz bros in nor cal or aka, etc. But my point was valentina was way more hardened and experienced than ronda when she got to the ufc.

The only reason UFC top brass hasn't backed her up full Ronda type hype despite her being a potential international icon with the resume, the look and bad ass hobbies is someone in there was bock clocked by Valentina or someone didn't agree to an eskimo brothers type of deal.
