Wow! I started listening to Phish over 25 years ago, it's hard to believe that they are still able to perfect songs like this at an ever-increasing level. Best Wedge I've ever heard.
That was pretty fucking amazing. Just sitting in my computer chair listening in my iPhone and just grooving out. Completely sober. Almost wish I still smoked weed.
I just listened to studio version, i was in highschool when rift came out,and just met this awesome group of deadhead kids, what a time early 90s was....it actually brought to tears listening to this!!!
Rob Marley same here. Feel like I grew up with these clowns by my side all through my teens and into my young adult life. I'm 40 now! Its amazing really!
Been with them since they were an opening act in 92. Quit seeing Grateful Dead shows for Phish in 94...still going strong. Really pumped for Wilmington NC this summer.

This just played as the next thing because I listened to the awesome 12.29.97 Tube. I think we all agree that 90's Phish is the best, but this is pretty damn good.

Exactly!! Definitely more like REO than the Paradise City that some people are claiming. Obviously very similar progressions, but sounds more like REO to me. Keep it Rollng!
Oh, idk....just picture(uh, in your head?Ears? whatever?) segment of Paradise City, right during the intro, prior-to-&-during Slash's brief solo before the whistle blows and it switches to 'Paradise City proper', if you will; VERY similar. DOES sound like 'Roll w/ the Changes', tho, too. Also just sounds effin' sick regardless. Was a blast being there. word y'all.

Very nice version and not a song that gets played very often, and on my list of favs that I haven't seen yet. Just love the sound and style of all the songs from Rift
Was at this show.....For first 5 minutes thought it was going to be a nice bridge song towards the next song in the set. 5 minutes after that I felt my face melting and body possessed.

The jam that starts just before 11:20 and up to pretty much the end sounds very much like an early version of the last section of "Drift While You're Sleeping" ("We move through stormy weather....love will carry us through").
The tease jam at 11:00 is REO Speedwagon's Roll With The Changes not Paradise City. They have similar chording but Trey's tone and strumming matches REO way more than GnR.

What I love about Fishman is he developed his unique style (basically self taught) to compliment the band as a whole. He knows when to follow and when to lead. All of them are incredible listeners while still playing at a very high level
Second sets generally have more extended jams (10+ minutes) these days. This is the first time EVER they've taken Wedge into Type II territory, according to archivists.

Phuchk yeah. So different more of a groove than a jam. Phunky?
96 Nassau Colliseum was my first show theyve only perfected there skillz
Phan since 1992. Hardly perfect but yea the jam is tasty. Rather hear fewer songs played with precision than hacked up rarities.
Fishman is such a good drummer
Duh 😮
Well the band is named after him n' all. The guy studied all the Zappa drummers.
**throws down crutches** YES!
Am I the only one hearing the end as being REO Speedwagon’s “Roll with the Changes”. From the 11:00 mark and on?
Thank you!!..was driving me crazy trying to think of it and you're absolutely right
Haha, nailed it
As a vet of 356 shows (and counting) this is a true story. And I was there and thinking the same thing that night!
Conor Mccarthy nah, I hear the melody from the chorus from “Join Together” by The Who. That’s what I heard at the show and what I hear to this day.
@@euphegenia thanks for your input.

Enjoyed playing a quiet Mando rendition along side this totally limitless big phish phishyness
No matter what, don’t pick up
I got fired...because I was late to work...because I couldn't stop listening to this jam.
I would totally get fired for this one
Back to getting limestone

WOW!!!!!! If this doesn't move you in a positive way you have no soul!!!!
no joke!
This jam reminds me of "Paradise City" by GnR...anybody?
hell yeah they did!!!
Jesus Christ Superstar
Paul Cataldo. Love ya family. Love this song. No resemblance to paradise city at all. But holler if you ever need anything at all brother :)

I hope these guys never give it up. Phish is just one of those bands that has stuck with me since I was about 15, man that was forever ago.

Sick jammed out Wedge. I fucking love this venue. Just a surreal view of the Chicago skyline. Amazing. Lawn sucks tho.

Ok they need to bring back that projection light rig the back of the stage looked so amazing at 10:40
Riley Narayn No fucking way dude...the rig they’ve had since 2017 is fucking fire. The moving rig. Produces insane visuals.

Forever dubbed the "Atomic Wedgie"
long wedge's are so rare like a long Fee 6-7-09 or of course Is this still Lawn Boy that changed everything 2017
Trey is shaggy here. Looks like he just crawled from a cave to look for honey.
Well he certainly found it!
My 2 best friends were getting laid at a campsite in Illinois....I was ashamed and alone....this song helped.....a lot.
I’d have rather seen this live than get laid honest
Page needs some glasses that fit better.
Was startin' to sound like they might slip into "Roll with the Changes" by REO Speedwagon there in that sweet jam.

Bryon Whitley Yeah I saw a lot of people saying Paradise City, but I'm not hearing it.

At 10:50 there's a flash of Grateful Deadness, just a little echo, which is nice.

I’m hearing School House Rocks I’m just a Bill in the beginning of Treys solo.

Absolutely spectacular! They take this to fantasy land!
The jam that starts just before 11:20 and up to pretty much the end sounds very much like an early version of the last section of "Drift While You're Sleeping" ("We move through stormy weather....love will carry us through").
Sometimes songs devolve into... Muzik

The tease jam at 11:00 is REO Speedwagon's Roll With The Changes not Paradise City. They have similar chording but Trey's tone and strumming matches REO way more than GnR.
Really wish they would give that song a full cover, feel like they would absolutely kill it.
Nice nod to Guns & Roses Paradise City in there! Noticed it immediately but couldn't place the song for a minute
Love me some wedge I ain't got up here good for you
The last five minutes of this on repeat forever.
Trey's sobriety compromised by that hit let out at 13:25 That jam is either Paradise City or something off Jesus Christ Superstar, nice.
JCS reprise
I can hear that but that almost the whole last part of the jam seems to follow the chord structure of the end of "Drift" from GOTF.
Or roll with the changes
John Goodman is pretty dope on drums.
Christopher Mayer , you're out of your element😉
John Goodman's sister Hank. haha
That's not john goodman, that's Fishman.
Christopher Mayer “you want a toe dude?” 🎯🤣👌🏽
@@Dogsrule777 THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE

Little bit of a Bertha sounding jam in there about minute 11...
It’s roll with the changes: REO speedwagon

A much higher power!!!. BTW yes it's Paradise city being teased during the jam.
They were trying to make up for the rained out show a night or two before.

well, that was a jam!

Do they go into Change by Blind Melon at the End?
Paradise City/ Roll With The Changes
Right as they are winding down....Trey's effect at the 10 min mark..so gosh darn good!! This is really really good stuff.
That sound reminds me a lot of Jerry on Estimated Prophet or Fire on the Mountain.
I still like Trey's 7/12/13 solo better.
What I love about Fishman is he developed his unique style (basically self taught) to compliment the band as a whole. He knows when to follow and when to lead. All of them are incredible listeners while still playing at a very high level
Why is this not on jam charts?
Happy 50th birthday, Trey!
Haven't kept up with Phish for a couple of decades... do they do a lot of Type II still or is this a rarer event?
They type II a lot, but not in the Wedge.
