"Puffin" A Boat Tour: Sam Devlin buys another Gardner Diesel!! Going north to Alaska.

It seems like Sam Devlin has a strong connection and appreciation for Gardner diesels, particularly the 6LW, 3LW, and 6LXB models. The fact that the boat is floating and equipped with a restored 6LXB with 700 hours since a major overhaul speaks to the dedication to preserving these engines.
The 49' wooden trawler designed by Bill Garden in 1966 has a rich history, being built at Jenson Boat Yard in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The vessel's connection to the local cruising area adds to its charm.
It's interesting to note that Sam Devlin hasn't abandoned his dream of designing and building a boat to accommodate the 3LW engine for himself. The plan to embark on a trip up the inside passage in May 2024, leading a flotilla of about 10 boats to Petersburg, Alaska, adds an adventurous touch. The organization of the flotilla through the local publisher of the Waggoner Cruiser Guide suggests a well-coordinated and community-oriented approach. Check out the website for more information.
