    This video comes at the perfect time. This is my first winter since I "caught the bug" and need all the tips I can get. I will be getting a humidifier as I am always cold and keep the heater on almost permanently 😅

    This is overall a well-informed educational video for amateur hobbyists. 😸 However there is one exception to your narrative.
    While using a heat mat to prevent dormancy or force plants out of dormancy might be exciting and satisfying for you in the short term, I caution against doing this.
    Plants evolved in their natural habitats over millions of years to live in specific environments under specific conditions. When they are grown inside, it is in their best interests to provide for their needs and replicate their natural growth cycles. Stephanias and other caudiciforms are perfect (& often very expensive) examples.
    Forcing them to grow when they need to rest is unhealthy for them and may eventually be deadly.
    It’s similar to you working without sleep for days at a time: it is physically possible, but leads to undesirable and harmful side effects.
    Thanks for a pleasant diversion in your beautiful home. ❤️😺✌️

      Yes that makes sense. I've only done it to my stephania erecta because i got it during the winter and I wanted to make sure it was alive. I am very curious to see how it does this winter now that its sprouted and not on my heat mat! thanks for your input.

    It doesn’t get super cold in SF, not like NYC. But it does get damp, and there is not much sun really. Though our summer weather isn’t great either haha. I don’t really do anything special to prepare for Fall/Winter months except that I try to water less, and make sure plants are by a drafty window. Good tips! I have to remember not to repot till next year.

      Good to know winter is not as rough for you! haha maybe a growlight for the not so sunny days?

    We only heat with wood and it is super drying. I have to run my humidifier and water frequently or my plants are sad and droopy 😔.

    I love the shelving in the beginning of the video. They look like the shelves can move up and down. Did you purchase these or are they a custom build? I’d love to buy a set if you wouldn’t mind sharing. Thanks !

      @@FelineJungle thanks ! I was referring to the ikea wall shelf. I found your video on them (should of looked before commenting), unfortunately they have been discontinued. It’s a bummer because I really liked them. I’m sure I can find something similar if I keep looking. Thanks for the reply.

    I usually wait until the leaves are brown and crispy to pull them off. Especially in the case of the bottom leaves on my succulents. Beautiful plants! ❤

    how do u keep your pots looking so clean all the time? Do u change out the pots regularly to clean them?

  • @Veravvs
    @Veravvs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Do you put a saucer under plants that are on a heat mat? I just got a heat mat and I'm really afraid of just putting them directly on the mat (in case it scorches the roots or something).

    • @FelineJungle
      @FelineJungle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do have a saucer for plants in soil just to catch the water. Haha its not that hot where if would scorch the roots. It might dry them out faster though!

    • @Unpotted
      @Unpotted 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Read the directions for your specific mat.
      I don’t believe they are generally designed to warn the soil more than a sunny summer day. The manufacturer certainly doesn’t want to cook the plants. They wouldn’t sell very many mats. 😺
      Some have timers that lower the temperature at night to mimic the outdoors. This is important for certain plants. Others provide constant warmth to shorten the time for seeds to germinate.
      Good research is the foundation of good results. ✌️

    I’m definitely not jealous of people that don’t get snow. You could seal the windows…it’s really easy and inexpensive with window insulation shrink kit and a blow dryer. Haven’t figured out what to do about heaters yet but I’m tired of pulling all my plants away from them. ❤🪴❤️
