- In this video, I use my alaskan chainsaw mill to create lumber out of a fallen hemlock tree behind my cabin in the woods.
Thanks for watching!

The bond between Al and Diego is incredible. We should all have friendship like dat ✊🏾👊🏾
Who would have ever thought I would sit and watch someone create lumber? Well I did - it was actually enjoyable. You have a knack of storytelling. Thanks
LOVE your videos! You do a great job! I look forward to new ones each week! Keep up the great music list!
All the material you bought has already paid off, you look so freaking happy and on top of that you will get a bunch of lumber. Win win.
Some things can’t be quantified by cost. Pleasure and the sense of accomplishment is priceless.
Have a lovely weekend with your sweet Julia. Great video.😊
Great that you wear the chainsaw pants :)!
Your video was all over , but I love them kinds , thank you for sharing them ✌🏼❤️
'Heavy' handling your cut lumber is good! It helps shake free some of the tension in the wood. I always drop my rough cut boards on the shop floor then leave them for a while to do this. It's amazing the difference it can make when then sizing and flattening them. Nice discovery Diego!
Now remember to sticker your lumber and cover up. But leave good ventilation to prevent damp, and don't let any metal touch it or you'll get black staining, which would be a shame because that lumber looks great!
I own a timber company and when I first saw you milling hardwood without a respirator I was horrified. It’s drilled into us in the uk that hardwood dust is carcinogenic and we now have to have our employees tested on a regular basis to make sure they stay healthy. Please be careful as you work solo and make sure you have a phone or loud siren on you to call for help which I hope you will never need.
He's milling softwood and I doubt that soft wood dust is toxic.
Hello I will say this I don't usually watch this kind of thing but I ran across you doing roadside firewood cutting and was amazed how much one man can do! So I guess I'm hooked now lol great videos this one was amazing also thank you!
Maybe some stickers for helping the wood to dry and some end seal to help the logs or wood from cracking on the ends while drying .
DIY is always the best and cheapest...the quality will always be so much more superior to stores.
Keep up the good work. Love your videos
Keep it up Diego love your content from OZ
nice peoples here.big love to all off you.and good to have grandpa Al.
I am from singapore and this is the first time i am watching a video on how lumber is created
Might be quicker to do the first cut on all the logs or at least multiple logs then adjust . You keeping the equipment clean and maintained will only increase their life. Good work and we can see you are flying up the learning curve.
Wow ur doin a gr8 job. I enjoy watching ur videos.
Happy Sunday Diego.
Just a heads up if you havent done it already, but use 1x1” or 1x2” in between the stacked lumber you already cut for drying, maybe every 2’ apart. Especially on lumber that has sap if they are stacked together tight they will mold and or warp
Hurricane Milton just downed a couple of oaks in my yard. This would be an awesome set up to have!
That's some nice wood, it'd make great body blanks for electric guitars.
For the lumber you are making into dimensional cuts, you may need to consider getting it inspected and graded depending on what you are doing with it. Keep up the great work.
1. enter the degrees Celsius in addition to the faraday and also the metric system for inches
2. you should buy a device with a leaf saw, it is faster, less sawdust, you get more wood, plus a tool for sharpening the teeth with sliding teeth when you make so many cuts, you also breathe less wood dust
3. make more videos with Al, you understand each other, share experiences, help each other, he is like a father
Maybe another shed project time and some more track say 16 ‘ or 20 ‘ total !
Might want to consider using stickers in your stacking/drying process
Great job! Ever consider getting a larger mill? Would obviously be quicker and could be a way to make some extra money by milling lumber for other folks.
My grandfather would drill lots of holes in tree stumps so they would decompose quickly
Tell me about it! Swinging a chainsaw is like wrestling a roaring beast-one wrong move, and you're the one getting sawed! But hey, it’s a full-body workout you don’t need a gym membership for!
Hi Diego ! Another cool video ! I'm from france, and my dad was milling with the same kind of alaskan mill that you have, but with a MS461 and I think his was faster (despite you having the bigger MS661). He told me about a certain way to sharpen the chain with a specific angle to rip lumber like you do (10° is better than 30° for conventionnal cut). He had an electric grinder with a stone to sharpen where he can change the angle. You might be looking about that to process your lumber faster and have a smaller workout for your chainsaw !
Continue the good work ! (sorry for the typo english is not my motherthong)
I would had that, with a good extension cord, you can use your skilsaw just fine with your generator ! I think that's even better, even if you have 2-5% loss in the cable, it would be better than the generator breathing sawdust !
Diego, you need to make a stand, with a Chainfall so you are not on your knees and your back, everything looks great
Dont forget to file the burs off the sides of the bar as it wears down a valley in the middle.
Good luck with the new mask, you can keep it in a ziplock to keep it a little cleaner. It doesn’t have to be too tight either!
Hey Diego you live in big foot country. How about asking Al if he has ever seen a BF or knows someone who has and what he thinks about the whole thing.
I see you are planking your timber what are you going to us it for
SECOND!! DIEGOOOO!!!
I would quater saw them and make clinker built Swedish träeka.
You sure that is a ripping chain you're using?
Say bro you should take a look at this TH-camr called surviving the ringworm he's using a sawmill similar to what you're using but it is set up so much better and I guarantee there's no disrespect to the way you're doing it but you working extra hard for no reason you don't know me from nobody but trust me the way that he's doing it it'll make it much easier on your back son
Are you milling up this lumber for a specific project? Are you just selling the lumber?
so antspants made his own bandsawmill, and what he does before he cuts is he powerwashes the bark where the saw enters to remove dirt or rocks.
👍👍👍👍👍
Hey diego another great video keep up the good work. If you do the maths I'd say would be cheaper to buy the timber, buy you can't buy that feeling of accomplishment at the end.
All Stihl Chainsaws are 50/1 ratio
Diego needs to try a little harder on those deck steps.
hey im from antartica and i have never seen wood before only sticks. Thanks.
Unless you are one of ten people, you can't possibly be "from Antarctica"
@@douglasashleigh4989 it was a joke sparked from a guy from Singapore 🇸🇬 😅
best friend all
It is expensive but using manufactured 2 stroke like Stihl motomix is safer and healthier with less sick dizziness at the end of the day. There is a few % of benzine in regular petrol which is carcinogenic.
Get a battery leaf blower to keep the saw and boards clean. Getting a 12 volt chainsaw grinder is well worth it .. Getting at leas two more ripping chains is a smart plan in case they hit something or get too dull to cut, faster to swap chains. You sure have taken to the milling bug :) Glad your enjoying a new hobby . Need to in the furture look into a logsol mill.
y dont u make some custom tables and make some custom logo and be like "hey im famuz youtuooba limited edition /200 tables get one today for $299"
FIRST
i love your channel and all your content .just dont waste your money on all the saftey crap its your channel your content and you are a very competent person to work safely without all the crap they keep ramming down our throat if the people who sugest .the saftey rubbish i bet there useless at diy
Don't forget to file the rakes down on your chain as well, otherwise your teeth won't be able to bite deep enough which could also be the reason why milling is taking longer.
People drive for a couple of hours to sit in the quiet and solitude of a forest, enjoy a picnic and a glass of wine away from the hustle and bustle of the city, so why do you buy a home depot lunch and eat it in your car which gets all smelly in the middle of a car park.
Bro dont tight the chain to much.your chian is very tight thats why its smoking
6:10 careful brother, don’t spill gas and oil on your wood, I’m sure it wouldn’t affect it but you’d sure smell it for a while
