    The weird thing about Jiri is you can tell he HAS technical stuff in his bag of tricks, but chooses not to use it most of the time. When he blocks head kicks, he's got both hands in the way. When he goes into the clinch, his elbows come into a pretty tight Thai plumb almost immediately. I feel like those technical moments serve as "anchor points," of a sort. He can come back to a technically sound position without much trouble when called upon, freeing him up to do more unorthodox, risky things in the meanwhile. He's like a ship that knows where all the ports are, so sails into open water with confidence.

      Many lightyears ago in a galaxy far, far away, he used to be a very much by-the-book kickboxer, in fact Czech muaythai champion, and used to fight in a relatively conventional stance with hands up, throwing mostly hooks. He simply became very ideological about fighting and created this style of his over time since he first entered Rizin.

    7:34 This is something Jiri's favorite Samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, talked about. How when your opponent is tired, or hurt, or off balance, you don't give them even a second to recover!
    Also watch how Jiri attempts to finish his opponents, while considering this Musasho quote:
    "The sure way to win thus, is to chase the enemy around in a confusing manner, causing him to jump aside; with your body held strongly and straight."

    Watching jiri makes me feel like he is just flowing and going with whatever comes available. The reason I say that is because it feels like jiri is imposing himself with this crazy movement but when reyes decides to engage, most of the time, jiri seems to eat it because I feel like hes more focused on his plan of attack allowing him to get hit. Dangerous for him and for opponents imo.

    • @casxenn4216
      @casxenn4216 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think he eats it because his arms are low and his chin is in the air. He has success through being unorthodox and being a big guy. Honestly I’m thinking Alex will destroy him round by round but who knows.. anything can happen in mma 😄

    IMO if Jiri is going to win, he will need to overwhelm him with his pace. Much like how he did in that crazy round first round in Rizin against Vadim Nemkov (Nemkov quit on the stool). He set a pace, and did not relent.
    I reckon he knows it is too dangerous to be traditional, so he will be feinting takedowns (may be get him down) to break Alex’s rhythm but off the feint he will throw something WILD!

    This is a very interesting match. On paper I'd say that Pereira has the advantage because of his kickboxing background, his power and Jiri's unorthodox stance with his chin up coming at him, and the likelyhood of him getting countered with a left hook is pretty high. This could very well be how the fight goes, but I think Jiri can pull it off as well with his creativity, confusing Alex and catching him. I think this fight is gonna be determined by Alex' fundamentals or Jiri's creativity, whichever is better on fight night.

      @fyelow9123 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Jiri is more fluid and dynamic in adapting to the situation, he's got that unorthodox style that is constantly engaging and flowing into each new strike. Sean O'Malley is playing a more precise game of distance management and capitalising on opponents habits / errors in response to his feints and positioning. In my opinion I'd consider Sean O'Malley more methodical but that doesn't take anything away from Jiri

    • @benmcreynolds8581
      @benmcreynolds8581 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@fyelow9123 exactly 👍🏻 i agree with you fully. What's interesting about each of these guys is that not only do they use unorthodox style but they each have their own way of using unique pressure to successfully pick apart their opponents but they do it in their own way. Jiri takes more damage and it's a sacrifice but it opens up openings that wouldn't be there if he didn't approach the way he does. Sean O'Malley is able to get his opponents on edge with effective feints and pressure while equally managing range/space and basically overloading his opponents to the point where they are reacting or trying to not react to his actions and it creates this ability for Sean to unleash dynamic offense and once he hurts them he is great at keeping the pressure on them. He is really methodical about how he approaches a situation but mixes it with this sorta abstract type system. (Some fighters focus too much on sticking to a game plan but these 2 have a great way of abstractly flowing with their fights, while also maintaining high level skill to their fight IQ)

Unless he comes in and shows a great ability to read them while playing the distance game. I am intrigued in how both fighters come in and what their style of fight is going to be. hey DJ! love your breakdowns as per usual, i'd like to know your thoughts on this take ! Alex Pereira fighting at distance is less favourable to him than fighting in the pocket: alot of his knockouts in glory and his KO win over adesanya in the ufc come directly after a break in the clinch or when the opponent starts pressuring too much, gets too confident and starts throwing at him in the pocket where it is SO much easier for him to land his lead left hook than for him to set it up at range. (where his opponent can simply circle or go southpaw).
    Examples: vs Donegi Albena (same size as Jiri), vs Yousri Belgaroui 3, vs Adesanya 2, vs Adesanya 3

    I love how Jiri has kept evolving his style since the Rizin days. His style constantly changes. His ability to adapt to the flow of the fight he is in is very underrated. His only issue, which is pretty major, is that he allows himself to get hit by big shots far too often. There have been multiple times where he's been knocked out during fights and continued. He needs to work on not getting hit by learning to roll and then counter-striking. It would do him good to get a proper boxing trainer.

    The setup you were saying Reyes needed to finish the guillotine is correct. The finishing detail that I find that works most consistent is trying to almost put your lat over the back of you opponents head and the motion should be like your trying to put their head into your pocket on that side. That way when you extend you fold their chin over the blade of your arm with more of your upper mass and really make the choke come on pretty quick. Aight, that's all! Love the breakdowns champ.

    The thing about both fighters are... Alex and Jiri don't move backwards they are usually the more imposing fighters in the fight. If jiri moves back he usually looks for teep kicks and counter straight punches and flying knee. If Alex moves back its usually to reset and look for headkicks and leg kicks.. usually he circles to the aponent's power hand to setup most of his shots such the famous left hook and calf kicks... when these are some things I noticed in their footwork. This fight will be about counter striking and footwork and octagon generlship. The one moving forward will be the winner 🏆

    The way Dominick Reyes fell on his Neck/Head 🗣️ was the most awkward & concerning thing.. it's like when you see a football 🏈 player injur their neck/vertebra from getting their neck bent in unnatural ways. I'm glad Reyes didn't get severely injured from the way he landed..

    They need start looking at elec bikes like they do rcs. would be great for everyone if they started making affordable aftermarket battery packs so you can just swap packs at the track or wherever your riding, similar to RC cars, 6s 8s packs. Fully aware it's different, but while they work on faster charge tech, in the mean time rolling out packs that wouldn't break the bank, making it simple and ez, and a feature in these bikes imo would also help them take another step.

    7:48 When you are highlighting Jiri's pressure, it reminds of breakdown the other day where Alex circled as answer to Sean's pressure. Would that work in this fight or does Sean pressure differently than Jiri?

    • @BombsAF
      @BombsAF 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      very diff. Sean mostly throws basic stuff down the pipe, whereas Jiri loves the angles, flows through his stances and attacks from any direction. look how Jiri pressured Reyes, just kept cutting the cage, trapping with hooks and teeps. Fighters like Alex need room to work and Jiri just doesn't give them that

    the thing is that Poatan isn't a stranger to pressure, that's where some of his scariest KOs in Kickboxing came from, people pushing forward trying to close the distance on him, going into the void with him is a scary proposition, the difference obviously is that in MMA, stepping into the void, you can grab him, take him down, tire him out, beat him on the ground and THEN pressure and push forward, but if Jiri tries to fight Poatan in the pocket the whole time, things can end up bad for him
