22:20 such awesome advice: analyze why you're not connecting in sparring & don't try to hit him - but rather getting in position to hit and if the opportunity opens up, planted and ready to go
Mouse... give the Japanese guy SOME credit. We know who Sean is, no disrespect. But he got touched a few times in the first round and you didn't even acknowledge it. Not like it did major damage but the Japanese guys ability to close the gap in even those few instances is better than A LOT of people. Respect is due. 💯
Sean's posture is a key to why he's to fight so well at this range. That posture allows for good shoulder rotation to extend his punches, and also gives him a lot of room to pull back for defensive purposes. It's pretty basic stuff, but as DJ said here, Sean has mastered it.
The thing is Sean asked for a guy over 180lbs. This Japanese dude is more like 170-175. I'm 160 and he's bigger than me+ in fighting shape, so he really got more like 20 pounds on me which is 180. Which is what Sean asked for. Dudes not 150, idiot.

Anpo was around 180 by his own account. Strickland himself said he's around 220 while on vacation in Japan. Sean is also decent amount taller and longer reach. All of that really adds up, and if both were of equal skill Sean would have a huge advantage. That being said, it was evident that Sean has much better boxing. From his cardio to his style, he's just hard for anyone to fight honestly. If you can't KO him he will just impose his awkward style and make it his fight, like he did here. TBH, Sean was being very respectful in the first few rounds and only turned up the heat after Anpo did first. Most likely Sean could have stopped the smaller man in 1-2 rounds at max if he had wanted to.

@@Frisketheboyyou shouldn’t expose yourself like this on the internet bro, casual.
@@Frisketheboyif you think his fights are boring you’re just not an mma fan
I mean, that's sort of fair but GSP had 12 title defences lol.

I love to see Strickland fight. He walks towards you like he's the bouncer about to ask you for your ticket
a treat to watch this sparring session and even more so to have you break it down! thanks DJ!
I’m pretty sure Sean asked for 10 rounds at first. The Japanese fighter said he has a fight coming up and he can do seven rounds. Sean said we’ll do seven
and they ended up doing 5 because the Japanese fighter used all his energy
Im so happy DJ finally learned the frame by frame keyboard shortcuts for youtube. That was only thing missing from his otherwise great presentations
Sean’s striking is so good, that Philly Shell is so good.
22:20 such awesome advice: analyze why you're not connecting in sparring & don't try to hit him - but rather getting in position to hit and if the opportunity opens up, planted and ready to go
That was awesome!
Mouse... give the Japanese guy SOME credit.
We know who Sean is, no disrespect.
But he got touched a few times in the first round and you didn't even acknowledge it.
Not like it did major damage but the Japanese guys ability to close the gap in even those few instances is better than A LOT of people.
Respect is due. 💯
Goddamn he got Rukiya Anpo? I love his style, probably one of the best fighters in k-1 right now
I love your breakdowns DJ when you chuckle he cracks me up keep it up brother we love you over here in Arizona
"I call this the penguin punch" 😭
Sean's posture is a key to why he's to fight so well at this range. That posture allows for good shoulder rotation to extend his punches, and also gives him a lot of room to pull back for defensive purposes. It's pretty basic stuff, but as DJ said here, Sean has mastered it.
when you fighting next? never watched you live & really want to. can’t wait fir the next fight
Thanks man. This might help me survive long enough until the cops get there if I ever get into a fight with Sean Strickland.
The only thing no one is pointing out is this guy fights at 150lbs while strickling fight at 185.
that's why he had a head guard .-.
Hence the head gear and big gloves. Boxers spar well above and below their weight classes all the time.
Great video Migthy
You guys have to understand that ANPO the kickboxer was about 20kg lighter than Sean. This means that there’s so much pressure you could put on ANPO. So I felt that the technique side of the boxing ANPO was slightly above.
20kg lighter and still gassed out and marched down and counter punched every round don’t get me wrong ANPO is a a DOG but if your technique can’t be implemented can it really be labeled as “above “
Mighty, as incredible as you are in the ring, I speak for the online community in saying that your ability to do this commentary thing is on par with your incredible in the ring talent... I am grateful to be able to witness your breakdown of pugilistic events.. thank you thank you thank you
Strickland on a sushi diet 🗿
Dope bro 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Appreciate who you are and how your views as both a human and a fighter translate to your videos. Thank you sir. Keep it up please!
Guys, remember…Sean called out Japanese fighters OVER 180. This means he walks around over 180, he’s not significantly smaller, he just has the type of physic that can cut down to light weight and Sean doesn’t. Sean’s a little heavier but these guys are similar in size and it’s not much of a factor here when you consider the full context
You can clearly see they arent similar in size
@@НиколайТобиас they are in the same range, of course Sean’s bigger but this difference means much less between these two at the weights they stand in this video. Now maybe if he was leaned out to 135, then I can see it making a big difference of course but you guys don’t get that 180 is much more similar to 200ish than it is to 135
Anpo's not 180 in this video
@@koo1770 says you? I’ll go by the challenge that Sean Strickland publically made leading up to this for a Japanese fighter over 180, so my point is made, it has evidence and yours is delusion at best. Have fun
Wicked Dj made me laugh out loud on a couple of your breakdowns cheers bud.😂
No they asked for 3 rounds, Sean said 10 and they agreed on 7 and ended up doing 5 rounds.
Very valuable insight champ, thank you.
sean looks like he just woke up in the night to fight off an intruder
dude ain't even wearing shoes
You don’t wear shoes in mma. He is an mma fighter. I think it is pretty self explanatory
@@zoroverse8358 they're just boxing and the other guy is most definitely wearing shoes. it's a completely different feeling having your toes stepped on with and w/o shoes
pretty self explanatory! :)
@@billybob-wx2re I think Sean would find the shoes annoying as he isn’t used to them. Also no one stepped on the other’s feet.
Does every mma fighter look like they woke up in the night to fight off an intruder cause none have any shoes when fighting.

Shawn's a fighter, it's evident in his technique experience plus spirit
Sean has such a fun style man
Not really. Its minimalist and interesting to see him make it happen from a conceptual standpoint... but sitting down to watch him do it for 25 minutes straight is not fun. He's only interesting if his opponent is able to bring it to him- otherwise he's happy to just do light sparring.

Y’all seen Alex P sparing a 6’6 heavyweight?
Alex P is basically a Heavyweight that fights in Light Heavyweight. Dude can easily put on that weight comfortably.
Yep zheili zhang
I’d prefer to watch Alex spar a super heavy weight than to watch Strickland curl into a philly shell with a smaller opponent.

@@mikehawk6120 thats right. He also showed up to a another fight this month while they still in recovery
Look at DDP’s face
There’s your answer
"This is why the opponent's tired because he constantly has to go left or right, he can't back up, so now he's tense, he's super tense. Because now Sean's gonna unload on him because Sean has walked him down. Look how close Sean is and he hasn't thrown a hard shot yet."
"Each time you can tell when the opponent's going to attack because he comes forward. If he just came forward all the time, then I wouldn't know when he's going to attack.
"The difference is, Sean will walk across the void he touches (light-med strikes) across it, once Sean touches him and sees him get in his shell then he unloads. The opposite, the opponent he tries to hit across the void, he tries to hit Sean, he doesn't touch-touch-touch then hit Sean."
"Basically you want to touch to get a response to see what defense your opponent's going to do."
"Don't try to hit him, try to get in a better position where if you do get the opportunity to hit him you're planted and ready to go."
"What made Sean a world champion, he puts on a pressure on people, walks them down, not try to hit them, just touch-touch-touch, if they run Sean will let them run away, and then Sean will walk back to the edge of the void and go touch-touch-touch. If they don't move then he unloads, if they run he lets you run and goes after you.(walks back to the edge of the void)"
Strickland is the best middle weight in the UFC rn
Pffft
Great break down, DJ. Staying objective and on the plan when everyone wants to be salty
2:25 He actually refused to spar Jake Paul.
Yeah he offered to actually fight him in the "streets" but Jake isn't doing that 😂
@@Hades-shadow Why would he?
Strickland is the khabib of striking.
I want royalties on that ❤
So simple, so easy to understand; nothing you can do to defend it, just keeps coming.
Sean just bullies smaller people during sparring. He wouldn't dare try to do that shit with Pereira.
I considered Sean a brawler not a fighter. I just thought he was one of those guys that would get locked in and just try and move whatever mountain is in front of him.
And that is likely from my own ignorance in trying to reduce his fight style through your breakdown I’ve realized how great his fight IQ is. Only moving when he needs to and knowing his distance incredibly well.
You’ve helped me appreciate a fighter that I likely wouldn’t have appreciated until he was gone.
Thank M.M.
Everybody talking about the weight this dude asked for people to spar and anpo stepped up if Sean goes in there and goes super light and he gets hit with a bunch of shots nobody’s gonna be talking about the weight difference just have Sean gets his ah beat he had no choice, but to go pretty hard in this dude as a sign of respect to his opponent and his image remember that
