Glad to see you're alive and on the mend! With regards to the AoS thing some of the models were less than 5 years old AND were in the previous editions starter set so a lot of people had bought into that particular faction of that army. Contrast MRRF/ASA/NCA etc were 10 years + ? It's interesting that they choose to nuke the army rather than resculpt with extra options.
I think it's important not to ignore that not only armies that were "Playable, but Out of Catalogue" were removed. Varuna along with three NA2 forces being deleted without warning, really sucks. It also doesn't help that their messaging around the "Out of Catalogue" forces was that they'd come back in some way in the future. This edition alone I had well over 100 models in my collection that were no longer of use to me. When it comes to the "older N2" armies being removed, you seem to forget that Acon and Caledonia were resculpted up to modern standards. For that matter, you can still buy all of the Varuna sculpts, as well as Mormaers, on their web store, and from their retail distributors. This has left several game shops to sit on inventory that they paid for, but can no longer sell. I'm sure there was a need to shake things up, but the way they've handled this was very poorly done.
@@thedicegodswg Yeah, it's been really weird for me. Poorly handled is a bit of a stretch they did not say in advance what was going to get cut but every Pan-O or Ariadna players should have figured it out when they said many month prior that the factions were gonna get curated.
But now we have no way to get the rules for our miniatures. Then they should leave the old N4 online and then they'll see how many people are still building armies there.
I wish they put in the rules for the armies, but not allow them for tournament. This way friendly games are easier accessible, but there is no need for too precise balancing and availability.
I lost my SAA, which I had just played through a tournament season, and my StarCo. In particular StarCo going I do not understand as they were comprised entirely of units from other armies that have not vanished (except, I suppose, the Caledonian and USariadna units, of which there are two). End result, I have a whole load of models that I bought, painted and do love, that I just wont play anymore. I get that CB needs to sell new models. They could've sold new SAA, reinventing the sectorial or rolled units over into a new sectorial (as with the Tikbalang into Military Orders). Particularly grating is that they canned NCA and MRRF after introducing brand spanking new models for both in the reinforcements debacle. They had the right idea in the move to N4 from N3 - kept people's armies alive and playable at little to no great cost in transferring them into the new rules. In doing that they kept a huge amount of goodwill with their playerbase that they have squandered completely now. I'm not sure that I feel your example Hydra re: Bagh Mari as they remain for my money one of the best MI units in the game, and regulars were one of the most interesting baseline infantry out there, too. I just have to hope the ones I already own remain supported if I do decide to play again when the dust has settled. CB lost a loyal customer going forward. Also there remains the option that I sell out with my remaining armies, costing them another opportunity to sell those first hand. Only time will tell if they regret this strategy, I suppose - somehow I doubt that they care.
I got into Infinity in preparation for N5. We had been wanting to play for a while, and the launch of N5 seemed like a great time to start. I decided to go Military Orders and went ham on the army.
