  • I’ll be reviewing the Elephas GC333 4500 lumen portable projector and seeing whether it’s up to the task of 3d projection mapping a wedding cake. You’ll see what kind of results you can expect when projection mapping with a projector that cost under $100.

    Thanks, good tips for projector selection on cake mapping!

      No problem! It was actually quite fun to do the test and I was surprised that the results weren't that bad :)

    This is a very well informed video, the idea for using projector in portrait mode is a very good idea.

      As long as your projector supports it. Always check!

    Hi, i own the BenQ MS630ST and i have that problem with the pixels in my animations, i made em in after effects full hd quality and when i proyected them on the cake, well... i was losing so many details. Its a shame, beacuse they are really good.
    Happened to me that after buying the projector I realized the problem was native resolution... so my question, is there a way to fix them from my AE Template. , or something you can recommend me? Thx, and love your videos.

      It's true, your problem is the low resolution of projector (800 x 600). The only thing you can do from an AE point-of-view is pack your animations as efficiently as possible within your composition to maximise the pixels being utilised. Watch this part of one of my tutorials which explains this a little bit th-cam.com/video/gVTjA1nwZro/w-d-xo.html. But the fact is, there's nothing you can do in AE to make your projector have more pixels than it has to give.

    How would you tackle projection mapping (projector and mounting) to the sides and top of a round gas table fire pit? Say 18" high, 60" in diameter, 12" table surface, 36" internal dimension with reflective fire glass? Kind of like a one layer cake with the given dimensions but projecting on the top and the sides and with people viewing it from above / at an angle while seated. I would be looking to cover the side walls for 180 degrees (more would be bonus but not necessary) and the entire table top. The position of the projectors would need to be such that they would not blind those seated and not be too close to be negatively effected by the heat of the fire. I was thinking a couple of cheap projectors (like what you reviewed) that I could angle down but based on your review I am thinking I would want more than that. The projectors would need to be able to handle the angling and might need to account for keystone (but maybe the mapping software could account for that). I've been enjoying your videos and I'm curious how you would approach it! :)

      Hi - a lot to consider! I would look into trussing if I were you. You wouldn't need to worry about stray light shining in people's eyes if you have mapped the content just to the desired surfaces. If the fire is lit it will be producing competing light, so projector brightness is going to be a big factor for you.

      @@LumaBox Thanks for the quick and helpful response! I'll look into trussing. :) Do you think the Epson Home Cinema 1060 might be enough? 3,100 lumens (one review measured it at 3,300), 15,000:1 contrast ratio. I'm seeing it is on sale atm for $499. I was thinking about possible tying it into two primary video sets triggered by AI recognition of a fire (possibly using Yolo v4). One video set when the fire is off (playing off the reflective fire glass, the table surface and the sides) and one when the fire is on (something that complements and accentuates the fire). Not sure if I can do it yet but potentially an interesting project. Thank you for your tutorials! Very helpful. :)

      @@timtodd22 Hi Tim. I'm afraid I can't really say if that projector is suitable. I think you should test projecting on this reflective fire glass. It doesn't sound like the kind of surface that would catch projections very well.

    • @timtodd22
      @timtodd22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LumaBox Hi Luma. :) I'll test projecting on the fire glass once too. I would have structured content for the 12" diameter horizontal table surface surrounding the fire glass (unstructured), also structured for the 18" vertical fire pit side. Do you think I would have problems with focus given the varied distances from the projector? I was calculating 7.6 feet (closest edge) to 11 feet (furthest edge).

    • @LumaBox
      @LumaBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends what 'affordable' means for you 😉 This is a budget projector that's adequate for practice or personal projects. However, there are much better projectors out there.
