Beautiful job on the China cabinet. I would display assorted vintage tea cups and saucers, assorted vintage cake plates or serving platters leaning against the back of the cabinet to let your family and guests admire the patterns I would put a teapot, sugar bowl and creamer vintage set too inside the cabinet. In addition I would show off several types of dessert plates. None of the patterns need to match. And if you like to collect and blue china then display that I’m not sure I would put in books. Also some smaller china vases and some delicate figurines would look lovely. Maybe leave the ginger jars on top of a side table or the marble pedestal you purchased. The lock on the China cabinet may have been installed to prevent the household servants from stealing the silver or other valuable items that were stored by family. Cheers from a 45 year china collector in Canada 🇨🇦 🍁
Letting your kids participate...absolutely yes! Both our boys were interested in my husband's tinkering with computers, laptops, game controllers, game consoles, you name it. Our oldest son works in IT/Networking/Security (I have no clue, haha!) and makes more money than I've ever made! Our youngest is in the US Air Force working with the electronics of fighter jets. He said the training is a whole lot easier than he thought it would be. He had a solid foundation! Also our youngest helped me care for our dogs (we've always had doggos); brushing them, bathing them, clipping their claws, feeding, training, walking them and so on. At one point when he was around 8 or 9 years old, our dogs would sleep at our door, and our son would bring his blanket and pillow to lay down and sleep with them. ❤
You need your own space that is YOURS and YOURS alone! An extra free standing garage for an art studio and creating. My kids got on my butt for collecting items. lol So when spring comes I am building a garage for me. But low and behold, my 16 yr old decided that he needed his own space to for small engine repair and car oil changes so he could earn some money. He has friends doing quite well with this venture and I am proud of his ambition plus he learned how to weld at our high school that has trade school. He will have his first welding certificate next year. Welders r hard to find and make good money. We need more people working from home and taking control of their finances like u r doing. Good job with everything. Keep it going. Let's teach our children how to be financially independent. They learn a lot from us.Sidenote: My 16 yr old has a rare tumor that made him go blind in his right eye. We will be leaving for California soon to a childrens hospital for 2 months of treatment and a surgery following after that. But my son talks about the future and what he can do in his life. We both refuse to ever give up on our dreams and this is why I don't mind getting him his own space to. He deserves it! P.S. CANCER SUCKS but I will be it's worse enemy cuz that's what MAMA BEARS do. Keep inspiring others with your projects. I applaud you.
FYI The type of wheels you removed are called casters. You could have recaned those chair. Places like Van Dykes carry the caning fabric. You do a fabulous job!!
What I would put in the cabinet? I make sourdough bread so I would fill it with my vintage and antique mixing bowls... I do use everything I own... why not? I enjoy experiencing what another woman used to feed her family. You did a fantastic job!!! Absolutely beautiful.❤
I’ve got space, time and the skills to do this. I’m in! The help you give those aged out of foster care is huge. I feel, guilty just making art now. I don’t even sell it. And It’s not like it would be boring to me, I love refurbishing old things, using tools, challenging myself to do new techniques.
Good to know hobby lobby has better quality. When a group was making rag quilts,( years back) someone suggested going to the states to get lower cost fabric. But several people got most of their fabric here at Essex,Ont. Sewcraft store. So the people who got theirs in the states were able to get some colors and variety they couldn't here. Their quilts looked nice - until they washed them... Rag quilt took on a different meaning, they were so washed looking they appeared awful...so I guess the quality really was worth the price.
I work in miniatures,1:12 scale mostly. It's absolute passion. I'd make a 1 of a kind, personal dollhouse out of this cabinet. Of course, showing my most treasured and timeless pieces. They can be quite expensive and very intricate. This cabinet is gorgeous.
I also do miniatures same scale. I have a old cabinet also minus a curved broken glass not replaceable . So I've been thinking about buying all my expensive furniture in a small rooms display.
I think that is a wonderful idea for a cabinet like this. I would find out when it was made and make everything inside look like the peiod of the piece. Bottom shelf kitchen, buttlers pantry, sculley, cooks room and dining room for the staff. Second floor entry, dinning room, receving/drawing room and smoking room. Third floor bedrooms and bathroom, study/ library. Third floor nursery, childrens room, nannies room. Top floor maids and butlers rooms and attic rooms. If there is more shelves it would be amazing to be able to have a ballroom,Separate library. Now I want to find one too. I still have a big dollhouse that I need to build before I do anything else. Lol
If I had a piece like this, I would use it to show off the dishes that belonged to my paternal grandmother. They were a wedding gift back in the late 30's early 40's, plus a Galway crystal bowl she used to keep hard candies in. They were passed onto me after my grandfather died in 2009, as my daughter was their first great grandchild.
I love that you kept the china cabinet true to its original look. Its beautiful. I love painted furniture too so im not a antique snob. I like that when you do appropriately paint, you dont paint everything white -- so tired of those who paint everything white.
I love your compilation videos! It’s so much fun to watch you do all these different projects. You’re becoming quite accomplished with upholstery and those chairs are beautiful! Good luck with getting your cars in the garage. It’s a worthy goal!🌸
Hello. I’m loving the China Cabinet, and the basket you put your tree in is perfect. I bought a basket that size, and it looked like yarn on the outside, Pretty blue color. I used it as a gift basket for my daughter to take on her move to another state with cleaning supplies, shower curtains, paper towels, etc to keep them from having to make a trip to the store for these items.😊🥰
That stripe fabric is called ticking. Used to be cheap strong fabric used for down pillows and mattresses. Tightly woven so feathers and such don’t poke out as much. Am impressed with your stretching stripe fabric so as not to be wavey. Good job. It’s not so much the weight but the force that allows a butt to break through caning. I had two Bruerer chairs that my very small friend collapsed on--ripping the cane.
So glad you removed the wheels from the china cabinet ! Much safer. It turned out great ! I would buy this from you ! BTW the striped fabric is called ticking,as in mattress ticking.
I have one just like it, that belong to my great-grandmother she bought it in 1911 brand new and it has all the same features on it that that one does I love your videos I love the way that it turned out.
The hutch is stunning!!! I would put Eagles in the cabinet. I recently inherited my fathers American Eagle collection and they would look amazing in that hutch. You do magnificent work!!!
The china hutch is gorgeous. I love the candle holders also. It looked so good all together with the table runner. That basket was huge!!! Now it has a story!!
Love the way you did those chairs. Contemplating on buying one with no arms to redo to sat at the vintage desk I just completed for myself. Yep this video sealed that decision. Thank you for sharing this redo. That basket is massive.lol Love your channel content.
Love how everything turned out but the chairs are awesome! I'd never know you hadn't done that kind of upholstery before. Everything turned out really nice!
I love the chairs and I really like what you did with the lamp and especially the lamp cord. We could literally use anything we want now everyone is going to be DIY in their lap chords. Thank you so much that is so awesome!
You guys are so lucky! Here in Hawaii we don’t have Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, IKEA, Michaels…even our thrift shops are very few..with nearly no furniture. I think we have one craft store that’s very small..and it doesn’t have any fabrics in it. All your projects look amazing!
I love the China Cabinet, it looks beautiful. I had a large cane basket when my children were younger & used it fir their toys. Since then it has been a wood basket by the fire.
I have always been SO intimidated to fix and refinish the seat of a chair but you simplified it in a way that beginners like me can understand so thank you!! They turned out absolutely gorgeous! I was also so inspired with how you left the “history” of the first piece and didn’t sand down every little ding and dent. It looks amazing and has made me rethink some future work I have to do on a hutch I got!
Great video.Beautiful cabinet that your husband stained and I love how you styled it. Just love those chairs. I do hope you are feeling well. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and God’s blessings.
You have inspired me to set a goal to complete all the furniture projects that are waiting and occupying a room for this new year. I enjoy a lot fixing, painting and give things a second chance and purpose instead og going to the dumpster. Thanks for all you do and sharing with us.
Really loved the projects in this video! The China cabinet turned out beautifully. What a great tip. I would love to find one similar that I could turn into a dollhouse! 💜💜
The curio cabinet is absolutely stunning! The blue & white pieces, as well as the other accessories stand out so beautifully against the dark stain of the cabinet. I believe that piece is a Queen Anne Curio Cabinet, possibly early 1900s to 1920s. As for the caned chairs you reupholstered, personally, I am not confident they will hold up long term. I could be wrong, but as I recall jute webbing with black stitching is for the back of the chair and red stitching is for the seat. I also noticed after you nailed the webbing on the seat, it was not taught. That may be because you didn't use a stretcher. Hope you don't mind my 2 cents worth?? Nevertheless, I really enjoy your videos and look forward to many more.
Can I share a tip ...an awsome repurpose of old gift card or credit cards ...they make AWSOME pot and counter scrapers first off and easy to reshape edges to fit curves of pots or pans ...ALSO awsome putty knives for both filling drywall holes & holes in wood like you are filling here ...also make great edges for painting or staining to avoid using tape😉
In the future remember that jute webbing with the red stripe is for seats. The black stripe is used for chair backs and arms. It is not made as strong as the red stripe.
Thanks for being honest about the furniture stash and other decorating items. It is hard to control completely.
Enjoyed watching you recover the chairs. Very nice !
I like your little helper. He’s very cute, Great work chairs are gorgeous ❤

I absolutely love what you “didn’t” do the the cabinet 😍
Your so right .. you can’t fake 120 years of love and use 💕😊👍🏽
That ebony stained glass cabinet is gorgeous
I love all of these updates, but the chairs are my favorite❤
It’s so good to see people shopping somewhere other than Amazon.
Please support local businesses.
If the cabinet can from an antique mall it was probably a display cabinet for the store that was locked to insure against theft.
I got the giggles every time your little helper kept coming to help you, so cute.
Thank you for appreciating the full value of an old piece and keeping it original and it's character
😆😆😆 that basket was hilarious!!
Hot air balloon basket 😂😂😂 Love all these projects. 😍
Beautiful job on everything. Your channel is addictive
the large basket was made to hold a large plant or tree in its nursery pot. all your projects turned out great.
Thank you

Thank you Michele. More where that came from!
There are no words for how nice your things turn out. Thank you for sharing the chair seats. It is a job I need to do.

You are such an inspiration!
Very smart and industrial of you. Your family must love you very much

That all turned out really nice, however, I am really in love with how the candle sticks turned out!! The shapes of them together is striking! 🕯🕯🕯🕯

That was really a neat share!! Uh oh! Getting bursts of energy? Its really funny how that is true. Loved the chair refurbish.
Thank you! Yes big bursts of energy followed by a need for a nap haha. Nesting is kicking in
I really like what you did with the large basket. The tree looks so good in that.
You make those chairs look do easy. It looks beautiful.
Thank you Linda. It really was pretty easy. I didn't do everything perfectly since I was learning as I went but I still love the end results
I love how your projects turn our. I especially loved the two white chairr and the cabinet. They look great.

My mom packed a similar basket for me when I just moved across the country so I’d have those essentials when I got there. Moms are the best
Love the china closet beautiful job love the chair make over I need to fix mine thank you for sharing

OMG I LOVE THAT BASKET!!! and I had been looking for one just like it but could never find one. 😍
That weaving idea is excellent, I would have never thought of that. Now I am a huge fan👍👍👍👍👍
So glad you removed the wheels from the china cabinet ! Much safer. It turned out great ! I would buy this from you ! BTW the striped fabric is called ticking,as in mattress ticking.
Thank you! True!
You just made me laugh out loud at that basket!!!

I love the basket, you could use it as a naughty place 😆 🤣 😂
Wow that is an old textile basket. They are worth hundreds of dollars and you got it for $1. Wow. You go girl
Based on a few clues, I'd date your first project - the cabinet with glass doors, circa 1900 - 1920.
Thank you so so much, I have had a cabinet like yours for months and months and now I know what to do with it yippee from the UK 🥳🥳
Oh I love it when that happens! Thank you for watching!
I had a good laugh about your basket joke. It looks terrific with Christmas Tree
The hutch is stunning!!! I would put Eagles in the cabinet. I recently inherited my fathers American Eagle collection and they would look amazing in that hutch. You do magnificent work!!!

Loved the table runner idea!.Velvet looks so classy and no need to sew!!
Delicate shell design on cabinet reminds me of Louis XV; maybe 19th century. Great rescue!
Loved watching this! Gives me incentive to do more.
Enjoyed it all!
I love the China Cabinet, it looks beautiful. I had a large cane basket when my children were younger & used it fir their toys. Since then it has been a wood basket by the fire.

Thank you I really enjoyed that. Especially when you redid the bottom of the chair. Very inspirational I often work on chairs
Thank you. There is something special about old chairs.
Everything turned out so beautiful!!! 🤍☺️
