- Minecraft is one of those games that never fails to surprise me. For 9 years that I've been playing this game, I knew nothing about this item until now. Let's get into what this item is and how it may answer the question to why dead bushes are disabled on 2b2t.

Dang, I remember this. I will tell you that these are obtained through placing a sapling in a place it cannot grow, and boenmealing it. once that is done, it becomes a shrub.
You can only put saplings on grass tho

They no longer do this and just don't grow iirc. Like when you try to make a big tree with 4 blocks and the other 3 don't work. Something about trees being placed a certain way can never grow. Mine craft is an iceberg of rabbit holes.

I remember I used to play the xbox 360 edition of minecraft and it was obtainable to get without commands and I never actually knew the difference between shrubs and dead bushes until now.

It did for me too. Everything coming full circle, with Sal finishing the build he made the video that started this in the end. It's probably about as wholesome of an ending as a story in 2b can be.

i was actually traveling past that exact mooshroom biome when I saw a strange land formation in the water, but since it was just a spawner I thought nothing of it. This happened about 2 or 3 days ago

I would always call them shrubs and people were like “don’t you mean dead bushes” I must have subconsciously seen them somewhere while playing with commands or something but I never knew they were different other than I knew there was an update where “Shrubs” started dropping sticks (they turned into dead bushes)

Yes, there has been plenty of progress. (join the discord to see)
They know a couple of coordinates, and right now they are optimizing the four last evaluations.
Then they will have a list of possible seeds, that just need to be filtered using a simple terrain filter.
So about 3 months left.
They seem to be on the last few chunk-seeds that they need to search, so it's going good I think

The funny part is that i’ve know about these for so long because I used to play on Console Edition when the updates were labeled as “TU__” and Shrubs naturally spawned, could be collected, and were even in the creative inventory.
Sal, there was also a dupe in late 2017 involving pistons and shrubs and chests ;)
Ooooh, so mabye that is why scrubs are not removed from the server but instead dead bushes. I wonder what is speacial about the dead bush to make an exploit but the scrub cant do. I guess the scrub is more of a tall grass well as the dead bush has some unique properties.

@@sugar2000galaxy so, the process has something to do with the properties of the shrub instead of the Bush, the shrub has almost exactly the same identity as tall grass, and tall grass has been in exploits previously.

How was this done?
The whole shrub ordeal is honestly quite fascinating.
I've been helping peeps build in a pre-flattening world as of recently and the offset and slight color change you get from a shrub makes for a nice variation when having a few bunched together.
Hope they get readded.

I remember on legacy console edition there were shrubs AND dead bushes in the creative inventory and I couldn't find the difference between the two. Thank you for answering one of my life questions

Shrubs are possible to obtain in the creative menu in some old versions of the XBOX 360 version of Minecraft - I remember finding out about these on an old copy of Minecraft for XBOX 360 around 2017-2019 when checking the creative menu and I realised they could be placed on grass. Thanks for unlocking that memory for me

From what I remember, shrubs were in the creative inventory in console edition
There used to be an exploit that changed block metadata. Very vague memories, but I think it was something with pistons and fencegates.

If I remember correctly, In "newer" versions of the old console editions, shrubs were affected by biome tint.
they're in the creative menu on legacy console edition. Sadly, if you convert the world to bedrock, you get grass called "fern" (but it's just normal grass, not fern)
If shrubs are the /0 version of the block, then placing an update-supressed tall grass would create a shrub which could then be broken with shears. That would provide a pretty easy way to make a bunch of them to skip the first few cycles for duping.

They're in the creative mode inventory of the legacy versions of Playstation and Xbox and sometimes spawn in some legacy console worlds. They also got they're texture switched to the normal dead bushes on said versions and then got changed again so now they're green

i do remember there was a point in time where tall grass or whatever became shrubs when updated from one version to another so i 100% believe that story from personal experience years ago
That’s interesting I never new shrubs were never in The creative menu in Java Edition. They were definitely in the Xbox 360 edition creative menu at some time. I remember going through the creative menu and finding both the shrub and the dead brush and wondered what was the difference between them. Eventually I figured out that the shrubs can be placed on grass and dead bushes can be placed on sand.

I started playing 2B2T yesterday. Took me years to finally get on this server
When you said illegal shrubs I thought about weed
I made my first world before spruce and birch trees existed in the game. After they were introduced, every already generated tree prior to that update became a tie-dye of all three types of leaf blocks, so I bet that helps to confirm your theory about some tall grass glitching into shrubs
That dead bush triggered my nostalgia but I wasn't being able to pinpoint what was that until I see that table in gamepedia page
But... I used them on Xbox 360? It’s was for a zombie map I was making, either it was shrubs (pretty sure) or dead bushes could go on grass I believe.

I've known about Shrubs since they've been released. Surprisingly, they were actually one of my favorite items, I don't know what it was about them, but I loved them. Younger me was obsessed with the strangest of things on Xbox 360 Minecraft. When I switched over to Xbox One and it was some time around 2018 I think, I was playing Creative and I thought "Wait a second, where are shrubs?" So I started panicking since I used to be so obsessed with them and cherished them, but I came up with no result. I miss shrubs, such a cool item. It's like the Deadbush on steroids.
